Spirit Taming

Chapter 231: Through The Wind

Chapter 231: Through The Wind

The ghostly steps had been one of the skills that Clark moved in even when he was not intentionally doing so. It was a technique that had become part of him and who he was. This very fact was what Clark knew. However, he felt that he had barely touched the surface.

This feeling had somewhat come while fighting the lightning orc. Clark had felt a small feeling taunting him in the corner of his mind. A minuscule idea that the ghostly steps were just the start of how he should move.

There was also the idea that he could combine the way that Crim moved with the ghostly steps. A fusion of slime dragon flexibility and the speed that made someone seem like a ghost moving around untouched. This being the case, the pressure that Clark could feel under the wind blades and the flying pieces of wooden church pews made him catch this feeling ever so slightly.

Devi actually found himself struggling. The intense winds were one thing. They pulled him from his soft floating to a hard fought battle against the air itself. Even if he tried his best to force his body in to one place he was draining his energy more and more by the second.

When the pieces of wood were added, Devi felt that he was under constant assault. This wasn't even in range of the wind blade. "Devi, follow me. We can break through this. I can feel it." The beat of Clark's heart seemed to reverberate through Devi. Crim roared in the edens end taming space feeling that Clark and Devi were about to break a wall within them.

He could tell that he was about to become even more proud of the strength his family had.

A single piece of wood scratched across Clark's cheek. Five more slashed through the edges of his cloak. The wind itself was taunting him. But it also was a signal. A green light to charge forward. Everything emptied Clark's mind.

He only saw his goal. The feeling of how he should move. The bonds with his beasts. The two beings that ensured he would never suffer alone.

That was until a third energy bloomed within him. a bond he had not focused on. A shift of shadow energy that seemed to become the wire that bound the dragon and ghostly death energies together.

Clark's muscles screamed out as he took step after step. His body arching and twisting to replicate how Crim moved but with a speed that made him untouchable. His leaps seeming to float just too long to be normal for a human. Just like Devi moving in the air without the need to touch the ground. A spirit just passing through their dimension.

The wind gargoyle screeched out feeling it had failed Alexander in challenging Clark at all. After the first few wind blades and pieces of wood had flown at Clark, nothing had touched him. Too many things were drifting right past Clark as if it was never meant to touch him. As if the wind was avoiding Clark completely.

"I will not be touched, but you will be broken if you remain there." The soft threat drifted to the wind gargoyles ears even though Clark was at a distance still. The words didn't feel as if they had come from a simple human. Even the wind gargoyle's tamer, Alexander, had never caused the shiver that the wind gargoyle felt seeing Clark suddenly increase his speed and come closer.

With a brilliant dash forward, Clark dodged three wind blades with Devi at his back. The pair was able to reach out and touch the wind gargoyle in the blink of an eye. It had appeared to it that Clark had phased through the wind blades in some miraculous fashion.

The wind ceased as the wind gargoyle stood still as a statue in awe. It was the youngest and felt that it had a lot to prove compared to the other three gargoyles, however, it was completely awestruck by the young tamer before it. But the being that had threatened it without a single ounce of fear.

The annoyed huff was all Clark got before the wind gargoyle began to walk around him and Devi toward the door. Clark could feel the small drops of blood dripping down his cheek and arms where wind blades had grazed. Small splinters were stuck in the exposed skin of his arms after the wind had cut the clothing he wore. But he could care less.

His eyes remained on the wind gargoyle until it had fully left the church.

At that point, Clark collapsed. He had been through a lot. The situations were very unique. The different elemental energies and attacks he had to go through had put a pressure on his body that he was not prepared for. It was not a hard battle that required strategy. He did not have to face a single attack and wrack his mind for a solution like when he faced the elder stone imp in the stone village.

Instead, he had tempered his body well beyond what it could do.

The different energies that had come from his bonds were very unique overall. Death energy, dragon energy, and the shadow energy that had been added from the egg were all coming together to improve him.

"The egg!" Clark realized that he had that third energy that had perfectly tied together the dragon and the death energy was the unique shadow energy. He pushed the pain of his muscles from his mind and peered in to the edens end taming space. He had to see what was going on.

The dark egg sitting in a nest of bones under a skeletal tree was still as silent as ever. Yet, the taming space was full of shadow energy fluctuating around. The was a slight crack in the egg showing that it was waiting for the chance to hatch. For the chance to break free of its prison and see the world. Clark just needed to pour the potion on to it and provide the correct energies it needed.

Then he would finally greet his third partner.

"Devi, Crim. we will welcome our third family member after we get that last scripture." This determination fueled Clark to walk up the third staircase to find the silver statue resting in the center of the floor. Devi wobbled slightly in the air as he pushed the third false ceiling stone away to release the last scripture.

Reward: Enhanced meditation by two times permanently.'

Clark wanted to draw the tickets but knew that he had to work toward the final link in the chain quest. The reward was so many times more than he had ever imagined. He had also gained some important information that he had not expected to get from the system. He knew the hidden facts of a dungeon that even his mentor did not know.

"Devi, Crim…think you can handle one more challenge?" Clark felt a light come over his eyes while looking through the main floor of the church. It was a mess but when his eyes fell on the pedestal, a single carved piece of stone lit up to his eyes.

After running his hands over the stone, Clark Realized that it was able to turn outwards. The more he turned it the more it came out like a screw. The moment it came free the entire stage rumbled and began to lower in to the church floor. The surprise that Clark felt seeing that there was a hidden basement was enough to put him on edge again.

Crim was still tired but heeded Clark's call while Devi was clearly on the last legs of energy as well. But they knew that they needed to see this through with Clark. They had to finish this expedition so that they could meet their next family member. So that they could claim a true victory over this dungeon.

Stone crashed as the flood halted its movement. Clark took time to adjust his eyes finding a large open stone arena with a single statue in the middle. A single, very detailed, statue that was too real to just be stone.
