Chapter 139: Professional Battle
Chapter 139: Professional Battle
Maria returned just on time to witness the start of the battle between the water bear and the purple python. From what Maria had heard, this was one of the rare beast only battles. They would happen rarely because the tamers would prefer to get out of the arena and take down an opponent.
This kind of battle was normally more popular with the younger tamers. However, some of the people rushing to get seats still were bragging about how the woman participating preferred to use battles like this to constantly strengthen the individual might of her beasts.
"How did it go?" Clark waited for Maria to respond before he returned his focus to the fight.
"There are a lot of people coming to watch. They all seem to know her as purple. She's famous for having her beasts battle one on one without entering the arena herself. She also said that she would win a hundred battles in a row for a hundred days. This is day twenty and everyone is betting against her. I put all my silver on this match."
"Good, she will win. This is a terrible match up. Just watch that little necklace of hers. That's her beast. It's hiding but is much larger than anyone would realize." Clark had managed to read the information with the system. If he had not, then he would have wondered why she still had a beast in a taming space.
The unique equip form of the purple python was as a necklace that helped the tamer be completely immune to the poisons of other beasts. This was a major boon for any tamer but even more so for a tamer that controlled an extremely poisonous beast.
"I will crush your lucky streak and take your hundred day challenge to the grave!" The man with the water bear pushed his beast to fully enter the arena. While doing so, the water bear stood on its hind legs showing its full height. A guttural growl echoing through the arena.
Many people cheered for the words of the man and the bear. They wanted to see the woman who was so arrogant to say that she will have a hundred day winning streak taken down. Especially because they knew the man better than the woman.
"That's the blue water bear that managed to claim the last championship. He won against two swamp things at once with his water cutting claws." the group nearby was bragging about being at the previous tournament and witnessing strong attacks.
"Phantom, have you heard of water cutting claws?" Ella wanted more information.
Luckily, Clark was already looking at the water bear and had read the skills it had. "Water cutting claws don't cut water. They make water blades over the claws and use moving current to slice through anything. Well, slice through things that are tougher than its claws." A few people around heard Clark speak and praised his knowledge. They were hardcore fans of the water bear.
"Unfortunately, those claws will mean nothing. The water bear will lose." Clark heard the instant drop in approval from the fans around him.
"You must not be from here. That man right there is a real tamer. He goes out and battles others to the end over and over. Way stronger than that woman who just gets lucky with her little snakes." The approval of what the fan said to Clark came from all around.
"Then tell me, her little snakes, are they here spirit beast? Or is her spirit beast the python she just released?" This was what silenced all of them. That and the fact that the woman had just placed the snake necklace on the ground.
The python began to change and grow. It was already thirty feet long and as thick as tree branches. The scales cut in to the arena leaving a slight poisonous ooze of purple. The air seemed to fight against the poison coming from the purple python when it hissed out.
"That is a purple python. Extremely poisonous. I don't know her other beasts, but this is powerful. This will beat that weak water bear in a single move." Clark stood facing the arena. The battle had just been started by the referee.
The python slithered slowly toward the water bear. All the while, the water bear was starting to growl louder and louder. The moment that the python was in range, the man shouted with all his might to spur his victory.
The long blades that formed on the claws of the standing water bear were definitely terrifying. They would easily slice through the spears that Clark owned. He knew that such an attack would mean a loss for him. But he wasn't the one fighting.
Just as the water bear fell down in a heavy slash, the purple python moved. No one could capture what they had seen easily. Their eyes were not trained enough. Clark could barely put two and two together as he saw that the purple python had moved backwards and whipped out with its scaled tail.
The purple scales dug in to the water bear tearing away parts of its blue fur. The poison fell on its skin causing instant pain. The water bear was not amused and roared in rage. As much as it wanted to strike out, the entire arena witnessed the fast acting poison causing it to stumble around drunk.
"Listen closely, I can cure your water bear if you admit your defeat now. It has about half a minute before its heart fails." With a few simple words, the arena was enraged. All those that were cheering for the man to win were shouting for him to do something. For him to reveal some sort of hidden trump card.
Meanwhile, the man felt the pain his beast was in. he felt the fading rage turning n to panic that caused it to trip out blindly at anything it saw in the corner of its eyes. "Just heal it. There's no point in losing a partner here. This isn't life or death." The referee shouted out the victor as the woman who went by the name purple threw a single vial of potion to the man.
He didn't even wait to treat his water bear as it collapsed on the ground. The purple python slithered and curled around its tamer while feeling her hands pat its head. She looked proud of her strength while Clark was amazed by the simple and fluid movements.
"Wow…just, wow." Isa and Ella were both awestruck by the battle they had just seen. They hadn't expected a higher level tamer battle to be so decisive. There was such a massive gap between them and the best that had been raised with more care and time. It felt almost unobtainable.
"Come on, let's go get our winnings. It should be a few gold since everyone wanted her to lose." Maria popped up ready to find the next match. With Clark's eyes, she knew they would have a decent fortune before they were at the auction the next day.
"Blue, you and I should be able to make a few more gold than you think. It sounds like a lot of people lost money today." They could all hear Clark's smile. He had found a slight love for easy gambling. It was something they all felt was not a good sign at all.
While they walked out, there was a slight uproar as a group of kids rushed toward one of the larger doors. Clark saw that they were all rushing with a piece of parchment and charcoal pens. As he was about to tell the group that they would see the winner up close, Purple walked out of the food with a brilliant smile.
"That was just another step to one hundred wins. I came here and said I would love to live here. That means I will live here and claim my place with the best record this Star city arena had ever seen!" her arrogance riled up the children even more.
"You and your purple python are very powerful. Try to give it a creeping blue ivy bosom and you might have something interesting happen." Clark walked away after saying this just loud enough for purple to hear.
The reaction was curiosity at first before she shook her head. But as Clark moved away, she glanced at his back. He had made a decent point. Someone that sounded much younger than her had suggested a material she had not considered using in her beasts' growth plan.
"Maybe I will have to hunt you down little tamer." Her lips formed in to a sneaky smile. A beast that had found new prey.
"Is such an herb ideal for a purple python to grow? I thought it was only used to create anti venoms for long tail wasps?" Ella had heard of the creeping blue ivy. It was not necessarily poisonous but touching it would cause some serious rashes.
"I just thought I should share what I know. She had a good battle. If she listens, it will make her next battles easier." Clark chuckled when he saw Maria returning from the nearby counter with an extra pep in her step. They had won a lot more than she thought.
