Chapter 996 965: One Shot, One Kill
But you could also see the love in their interactions; the Crow always showed a different kind of liveliness around those he liked.
On the top floor of 'Bessade', more than a third of the room space was made of various kinds of glass. In this room, a white bathtub was filled with rose petals, mingling with pink foam.
Fick emerged from the shower, naked, and slipped into the bathtub, occasionally muttering curses mixed with a local accent. Just an hour ago, Royce had once again clashed with his guests on his turf. His tolerance was reaching its limit for this person. If it weren't for Royce being part of the Kromop Clan, he would have unhesitatingly drawn his gun and shot him in the head.
"Oh, damn you, Royce. One day I'll make you regret this," Fick shouted as he closed his eyes, roaring in the empty room.
The scent of roses blended with essential oils, gradually calming Fick down. He rested his hands on the edge of the tub, inhaling the aroma with each rise and fall of his chest. In two hours, his boss would appear at 'Bessade'. Rumors outside said that he had once been left alone by the Godfather, and after a day's discussion, nothing transpired. Augusto Lucchesi hadn't exited Nicholas's little manor as everyone had anticipated.
Fick submerged his face in the water. When he resurfaced, a black gun barrel extended over him, emitting a puff. He sank into the water once more, blood slowly seeping from his body and vividly staining the rose petals.
A petite figure stood beside the built-in bathtub, coldly indifferent to the face floating up from the water. This was the highest place in 'Bessade', standing several dozen floors above ground. She looked down from such a height. Behind her was the room with only the bathtub. Fick lay there, and it seemed the shadow was waiting for something. Down below, boxy cars were driving into the underground garage of 'Bessade.' If she didn't leave soon, she'd be as easily discovered as Fick's body.
Suddenly, the shadow descended the building. He glanced upward, noticing a silhouette flickering on the opposite rooftop before quickly vanishing into the darkness. The steel wires wrapped around his arms reached their limit as he shattered a pane of glass, flying inside.
'Bessade' was established atop a high-end hotel, occupying the top four floors of the entire building. Below were the guest rooms and the restaurant. The shadow landed and severed the steel wires from his arms. This room was vacant; during peak tourist season, having an empty room could mean the hotel was either coveted or struggling. Clearly, 'Bessade' wasn't the latter.
After someone passed through the corridor, the shadow emerged from the room and entered the safety passage. Outside, sirens blared, and several police cars discreetly hurried into 'Bessade.'
"Seal all exits; no one is allowed to leave!" The leader issued concise commands, and Moro, standing tall at six feet, briskly entered the elevator directly to the top floor.
'Bessade' was tightly surrounded, not a single fly able to escape. The shadow retreated into the safety exit, realizing it was impossible to pursue the silhouette from the opposite building. Instead, he aimed to leave from another side.
"Where do you think you're going?" Xiao Lin suddenly appeared in front of the shadow, silently emerging in the darkness like a ghost.
The shadow took a step back, the door to the safety passage right behind. Outside, officers stood guard, with rapid footsteps descending from above—a dangerous warning.
"Follow me!" Xiao Lin also heard the footsteps overhead; without hesitation, he grabbed the shadow's hand and darted into a storage room.
The cramped space was piled high with clutter, barely accommodating two adults. "Don't move!" they pressed tightly together, Xiao Lin growled, bracing as much distance as possible. Instinctively aware that his chest pressed against something soft, he lowered his gaze, eyes intertwining with the large ones beneath the scarf.
The shadow obediently leaned against the clutter, remaining still, while Xiao Lin chuckled, straining to listen to the sounds beyond. As the footsteps gradually faded, he leaned back against the shelf. Seizing the opportunity, the shadow delivered a punch to Xiao Lin's abdomen, rushed to the door, and ran out.
"Ah, damn it!" Xiao Lin rubbed his unguarded abdomen—what a heartless creature. By the time Xiao Lin dashed out of the storage room, the shadow was gone. This time, Xiao Lin was certain she was a woman.
The exit was guarded by police, and officers were searching upstairs too. The woman couldn't leave unnoticed amongst so many cops unless someone aided her.
"Stop, who are you?" A policeman approached as Xiao Lin found himself in a rather awkward position. Behind was the safety passage door, to the left was the kitchen, and to the right the wall. If posing as a guest, this wasn't the residential area. As kitchen staff? Instantly exposed. Why was he here? Taking the stairs, someone had recently combed the building. He couldn't have simply appeared.
"Put your hands on your head, turn around, and face the wall." The policeman radioed for backup, roughly kicked Xiao Lin's feet apart to make him stand shoulder-width apart. "I've found a suspicious person here."
"Copy, sending reinforcements immediately."
"Officer, I'm merely passing through—is that a crime?" Xiao Lin grew frustrated with the cop's rough treatment, protesting irritably, though his argument clearly won little support.
"Passing through? Hey kid, don't take us for fools. We know how crafty you assassins are." The officer again roughly jabbed Xiao Lin's waist with his baton.
"Is that so?" Xiao Lin's right hand subconsciously slid down the wall, ready to retaliate just as the policeman behind him was about to pull out handcuffs.
"What are you trying to do?" The startled policeman suddenly looked up and saw his movement, swinging his baton toward Xiao Lin's commotion.
"Stop! Agent Mephisto, what do you intend to do to my guest?" Raphael emerged urgently from the kitchen with two people in tow, his face cold.
"Young Master Raphael!" Mephisto, as he was called, shoved Xiao Lin against the wall and then forced a smile.
"What did you just intend to do to my guest?" Raphael ignored the others present and punched Mephisto straight in the face. "This is an important guest of mine, is this how you officers conduct yourselves?"
Blood appeared at the corner of Mephisto's mouth, and he seemed quite wary of Raphael. He wiped the blood away with the back of his hand and slid the baton into his belt. "Is he your guest? He wasn't saying that just now."
"Mephisto, are you questioning my words?" Raphael left Mephisto no chance to speak further, matching eyes with Xiao Lin's humorous gaze. "Mr. Xiao, I apologize for the fright."
"Oh no, the police here are very dedicated!" Xiao Lin twisted his wrist, puzzled by Raphael's sudden appearance.
"Mephisto, may I now leave with my esteemed guest?"
"Yes, yes, Young Master Raphael, please convey my..."
"Mephisto!" Raphael glared. "You've already wasted much of my time."
"OK!" Mephisto raised his hands and apologetically stepped aside to make way for Raphael and Xiao Lin.
"Mr. Xiao, this way please, I should have had you go straight to the dining room to wait for me." Raphael led the way, leaving Mephisto behind.
"Damn, what the hell!" Mephisto spat in the direction of Raphael's back, then seemed to remember something and reported the situation just now over the walkie-talkie before entering the security stairwell.
"Raphael!" Xiao Lin stopped in front of the dining room.
"If you don't mind, join me for dinner!" Raphael seemed to know what Xiao Lin wanted to say, entering the dining room before Xiao Lin could refuse. "I've already instructed the chef here to serve delicious Chinese cuisine, and I believe you'll like my arrangement."
Xiao Lin couldn't refuse Raphael's invitation, and when he noticed the table was set for three, he let out a surprised sound. "Another guest?"
"Yes, this guest is a big deal, rarely seen in Palermo, quite the coincidence this time." Raphael's eyes had a hint of excitement.
"Sorry I'm late, Raphael, did I miss anything?" A familiar voice sounded behind Xiao Lin as Chopin entered, still wearing his gentle smile, without his usual bodyguards, looking quite dashing.
"Oh, Cheris, I'm thrilled you could make it, let me introduce you, this is..."
"No introduction needed, we know each other. But I'm surprised Raphael, how do you know Xiao Lin? He's a good friend of mine from back home." Chopin recognized Xiao Lin's back the moment he stepped into the dining room.
"Just a chance encounter, since everyone knows each other, let's open a bottle of wine to celebrate. Earlier, Mephisto spooked our friend quite a bit; if I hadn't arrived just in time, who knows where that guy would have taken Mr. Xiao. That reckless fool will meet a violent end one of these days."
"You mean Agent Mephisto, the rude and discourteous guy?" Chopin's expression turned mocking, while Xiao Lin smiled back and forth between the two, finally resting his gaze on Raphael.
"I happened to encounter a figure in black, and during the chase, bumped into that agent. It's a real shame, if it hadn't been for him jumping in, I might have caught that person already, who seemed to be a woman." Xiao Lin said casually. (To be continued.
