Chapter 991 960: Night of Murder
Chapter 991 960: Night of Murder
"Uncle Edmund, you also know that my parents died in the last family battle, leaving Caloy and me to depend on each other. I need a capable, reliable man who loves me to rely on."
Edmund's gaze fell on Hua Qingyi, who felt a bit like he was being pushed into marriage, but for someone who has been around women for years, it wasn't a big deal.
A person and a 'dog' appeared openly in an inconspicuous residential house, uninvited, and walked up to a man with a beard!
Middle Easterners are not welcomed here, no matter in which area, so he rarely goes out, but the people who looked like bodyguards around were all locals.
"Chinese?" The bearded Middle Easterner played with dice on the table, his murky eyes revealing a cunning sharpness. "Come, the first round! If you win, we continue; if you lose, leave something valuable and get lost."
Xiao Lin's right hand stroked the feathers of the raven. "I didn't bring money!"
With a loud smack, a heavy machete slammed onto the table. "No money? What are you here for?" The fierce tone shouted while the back of the knife gently lifted Xiao Lin's chin. "You look soft-skinned and tender, won't stand a chance against these people, leave the one beside you, it seems valuable, and get lost yourself!"
"Are you sure you want to keep it?" Xiao Lin's mouth curled into a smile. "Let me remind you, it's not a dog, it's a Mongolian wolf, raised on my blood."
The Middle Easterner's eyes widened, and his murky eyes cleared instantly. "You, you're that person!"
"Oh! Who am I?" Xiao Lin's smile grew even brighter, gently pushing him away with a finger on the knife's back. "Pointing this at me, you're in danger. Go tell the person in the back I want to see him."
"Oh, no!" The Middle Easterner cried out in distress. "How did you find this place?"
"Can anyone escape the eyes of darkness?" Xiao Lin kindly explained. "Now, go immediately to inform your master; I want to see him!"
The Middle Easterner raised his left hand to cover his face, looking troubled, while Xiao Lin, across from him, wobbled the chair. Suddenly, the person in front lunged forward, knocking Xiao Lin and the chair to the ground, and swung a dark fist toward his face.
The people in the house have no sense of morality; when the Middle Easterner launched his attack, those locals also surged towards Xiao Lin.
Clucking sounds! As if anticipating this, Xiao Lin released the raven as he fell. It shot out like an arrow, causing carnage wherever it went, its jaws snapping at anything it saw, immediately filling the residence with wails.
Bang, bang, bang! Finally, someone wielded a weapon, firing at the lightning-fast raven. The Middle Easterner heard Xiao Lin's sigh and hesitated, just as he was about to retreat, the person was already upon him.
Ten fingers curled inward, clawing at the back of the fleeing Middle Easterner, while the tightly closed door was kicked open, and two people flashed in from outside.
"Leave no one alive!" Xiao Lin called out without looking back, heading toward his target.
Yelü Shou glanced at Consort Ling beside him, feeling he didn't need to lift a hand, as this guy was clearly more excited than he was.
An assassin who doesn't kill can't be called an assassin, and Consort Ling, who has always served as Xia Xue's bodyguard, has long been hungry for the scent of blood. Without waiting for Xiao Lin's command, she grabbed the nearest person's arm, pulled it forward, and thrust her right leg up, breaking the person's arm and inserting it into their own heart. The clean and swift maneuver made Yelü Shou's scalp tingle.
"Spare me, help!" The bearded Middle Easterner screamed, the tearing pain in his back made him only want to open the tightly closed door behind him.
"What a coward!" Yelü Shou shook his head, leaping ahead of Xiao Lin, his bent leg sweeping towards his abdomen, sending him flying into the cabinet nearby.
"No need to leave anyone alive!" Xiao Lin dragged the chair he had previously been sitting in to the side. If such commotion didn't draw anyone out, leaving them alive would only leak information. He comfortably sat in the chair, waiting for the slaughter to end, curiously glancing at the door the Middle Easterner was desperate to open.
Xiao Lin stood up, uninterested in the noise outside, walked to the door, tapped around it. The raven suddenly burst out, growling toward the inside. "There's something inside?" It seemed the raven's noise aroused the neighbors' suspicion. Xiao Lin slipped his fingers under its neck, looping the feathers beneath its chin to quiet it.
The door had no handle, nor a keyhole. Xiao Lin thought for a moment and called Yelü Shou. "Is there any way to open it?"
The gap between the door and the wall was very narrow. Yelu Shou stood at the middle of the door and started tapping outwards in a counter-clockwise direction. "This door opens from the inside out!" he said, his fingers pressing on a gap on the right side. The seemingly smooth surface revealed a bump as he slowly felt it with his fingertips. "This is a mechanism. Hidden doors usually have a feature like this on the outside, so one can escape in an emergency."
"Wait!" Xiao Lin quickly stopped Yelu Shou from touching the mechanism. "Can the people inside know what's happening outside since the door opens both ways?"
"That's right! And this courtyard is so deep, there might be a secret passage below."
"Consort Ling!" Xiao Lin suddenly shouted, having just dealt with the last person. Consort Ling leaped out the window. With a snap, Yelu Shou took a step back, seemingly realizing something, as he lowered his head.
"It's blood!" There was a pool of blood where Yelu Shou stood. He raised his head in surprise, looking at Xiao Lin, while a raven beside him became restless.
"It's flowing from inside." The ground where Xiao Lin stood was dry. Yelu Shou cautiously stepped back, lifting the foot that had touched the blood. "I'll go find Consort Ling. Leave no clues for anyone else, let's split up and return."
Consort Ling sensed a ripple as he leapt out the window. He pressed close to the wall, no longer moving forward. Two shadows simultaneously leaped beside him. His keen sense of smell caught a whiff of blood. He pointed to the back, where the wind rustled the bushes irregularly. Inside the room, Yelu Shou was dealing with the final details. Xiao Lin signaled for Consort Ling to leave with the raven, but was stopped by the latter. Based on intuition, the bushes ahead were likely a trap waiting for them. The raven held onto Xiao Lin's pants firmly, pulling him back. Unwillingly, Xiao Lin gave up his urge to investigate, heading back to the car with the raven and Consort Ling.
"Not waiting for Yelu Shou?" Once seated in the car, Xiao Lin stepped on the gas, speeding onto the street. Consort Ling looked back with worry but didn't see Yelu Shou's silhouette.
"He knows where to find us." Xiao Lin's expression was unusually grave. He stepped on the gas fiercely, increasing the car's speed by one notch, heading northwest. After passing through 'Wagangai', they arrived at a carved metal gate, which naturally opened to let the car in.
Xiao Lin didn't stop the car in front of the castle but drove around it, entering the courtyard at the back. The entire castle acted as a natural barrier, hiding them behind it. The two entered a stone house one after the other, resembling a storage place providing equipment for workers in the courtyard. The flat-roofed house had two windows on each side, not small in area but rather spacious. Beside the stone house was a three-meter-high glass house, planted with various off-season flowers.
Inside the stone house, only one corner had a lawnmower and some tools for trimming trees and grass. The rest of the place was neatly organized. The raven found a spot to lay down, its ears drooping, looking somewhat listless.
"What exactly is happening in Yanjing?" Xiao Lin stared at Consort Ling as he tended to the bloodstains on him, taking off his clothes and placing them in a diluted acid solution to slowly dissolve. "'Dungeon' over there doesn't need you as a cleaner?" Consort Ling picked up an iron basin, pouring the acid water into a small pit, then covered it with soil. "Consort Ling, tell me the truth, what exactly is happening in Yanjing? Are Xia Xue and Zimu..."
"They're all fine!" With Yelu Shou appearing simultaneously in Palermo, Consort Ling spoke for the first time. "I'll go check why Yelu Shou hasn't returned."
Xiao Lin stepped forward and grabbed Consort Ling. "You're hiding something from me."
"Yelu Shou didn't tell you?" Consort Ling shrugged upon seeing Xiao Lin's reaction. "He's more qualified to answer your questions. Ask him when he returns."
Xiao Lin released his grip. "Keep an eye on the raven, I'll go find him!"
Yelu Shou didn't return to the stone house in time. Xiao Lin drove back to the residence, but hadn't approached 'Wagangai' yet when he saw police walking up to intercept him.
"Sir, please take a detour, this area has been sealed off." A police officer tapped on the glass window.
"Is something wrong?" Xiao Lin opened the window, noting the scent of blood in the air.
"A murder occurred nearby, the suspect might be in the vicinity. Safety first, please detour to your destination."
"Were many people killed? The place I'm headed is just up there, can you let me go up there? Walking would also work."
"Sorry!"
"Alright then!" Xiao Lin backed the car away. In the rearview mirror, the blue uniforms grew smaller, as the car retreated back onto the main road. He lit a cigarette, not neglecting the mention of the word 'suspect' by the police earlier.
A few police cars drove past him, heading upwards. Xiao Lin was about to open the car door when a child sat inside from the side. "Charles?"
"I know where the person you're looking for is," the child's face reddened. "Hurry, drive, it'll be too late soon." (To be continued. If you enjoy this piece, feel free to visit Qidian (qidian.com) to vote for recommendation tickets, monthly tickets. Your support is my greatest motivation.)
