Chapter 900 872: The Truth Behind Silencing Witnesses

Chapter 900 872: The Truth Behind Silencing Witnesses

"Hmm, with a beard, it would look much more like him. He has a beard on his chin." The girl pointed at the composite sketch to make the details clearer. "But this person just took that foreigner away."

"Where did they go?" Was the person who took Arthur away Hong Lian?

"Seems they headed towards the seaside, is there a problem?" The girl felt a persistent fear towards Xiao Lin and quietly took two steps back.

"Ah, no, don't disturb Young Master Hua tonight. I'll leave now and come back tomorrow."

Leaving the small inn's yard towards the seaside, Xiao Lin repeatedly tried calling Hua Qingyi but the calls couldn't connect. He stepped on the accelerator and rushed off.

Arthur recognized the person in front of him, who had come with Wang Zhantian to find him many times before— a 'mute' who had never spoken.

The black Toyota parked by the shore, and further ahead was the ocean. Imagining that neither of them intended to commit suicide, Arthur wanted to open the door and walk around; he was about to go crazy from staying in this small town.

"If you go out, you'll be riddled with bullets," said the middle-aged man in the driver's seat, speaking in a deep tone.

"What do you mean? Aren't we boarding a boat today for my departure? The plan was moved ahead." Arthur relaxed his grip on the steering wheel; it was the first time the man spoke, but Arthur believed him entirely.

"You've been exposed. Your boss won't let you return alive, and you are a pawn in his upcoming conspiracy," the middle-aged man exhaled smoke. He wasn't trying to scare Arthur.

"You work for him!" Arthur spoke with non-fluent Chinese, believing what was said, but not necessarily the person saying it.

"Let's make a deal. You take me to meet your father, and I'll help you escape from Wang Zhantian and another group." The middle-aged man turned his head; his aesthetically pleasing beard didn't suit his face.

"How do you know there's another group? Why should I believe you?"

"I'm right here, you can get out whenever." The middle-aged man wasn't in a hurry; he opened the car door, and amid the silent night, the sound of a bullet being chambered was audible in the wind— a familiar aura for an assassin. "You're here because of Wang Zhantian's words. I'm here because he asked me to bring you over. Understand, Mr. Arthur?"

"He should know killing me isn't beneficial for you. I'm the Godfather's man." Arthur gazed at the back of the middle-aged man's head with his blue eyes. "Are you aware of the consequences of killing me?"

"Even if you're the Godfather's man, secretly accepting a job is not something your Italian Mafia should do, especially when this assassination involves high-level officials. Do you think you can easily escape? You've met the Xiao Family, haven't you? Do you still think you can safely return to your homeland?"

"He promised he could send me back to Italy." Arthur regretted his initial certainty a little, realizing the person didn't seem like someone to negotiate with—either agree or be shot to death. "I can't take you to see the Godfather."

The middle-aged man seemed to have anticipated Arthur's answer and laughed aloud. "As people in the underworld, everyone should know there are two things: the Rose Staff and the Dharma Seal. And coincidentally, I have the Rose Staff. Know why Wang Zhantian wants you dead?"

"Of course, because he discovered me and wants to silence me." Arthur spoke without hesitation. "He's afraid I'll blab on him."

The middle-aged man looked at Arthur with sympathy and then shook his head. "That reason is proper and persuasive, but it's not the case. Having both treasures means you can dominate the entire gang, something everyone dreams of."

"I understand. You mean he wants to use me as bait to trigger a conflict between the Mafia and the Xiao Family to obtain the Dharma Seal!"

"No wonder the Godfather appreciates you—consider whether to cooperate with me."

"You just said you have the Rose Staff. Why would you betray Wang Zhantian?"

"Betray? Without cooperation, where would betrayal come from?" The middle-aged man laughed heartily again, but the crisis was slowly pressing in.

Arthur was the first to sense the danger. He moved from the left side of the car to the right, demonstrating extraordinary agility. Just as he settled on the right, the left window shattered from a bullet.

"I think you've misunderstood something. He wants both of us dead," Arthur said confidently, noting this person was a highly professional assassin; clean and efficient shooting and a strong presence were formidable.

"I'll contact you about the cooperation later." With that, the middle-aged man stepped on the gas and turned sharply in the opposite direction.

The best opportunities are wasted through mistakes. The middle-aged man hadn't chosen to flee initially, so when bullets began filling the car, their escape route was surrounded. Arthur looked out from the rear windshield; behind him was a bottomless ocean, and figures emerged intermittently ahead. But he was sure the shooter wasn't among them.

"Is it a sniper rifle?" The middle-aged man asked. If the opposition used a sniper rifle against them, the location would likely be elevated.

"No!" Arthur lay on the back seat, using his fingers to touch the bullet hole in the window. From the shattered glass angle, it wasn't inclined from above.

The middle-aged man floored the accelerator, charging at the group ahead. In moments of life and death, so-called morality becomes a mere illusion, moreover, neither were virtuous characters. Those blocking in front saw the car madly charging towards them; not even the boldest could hold their ground. People hope to stay alive.

Just as they were about to breach the shore, a container suddenly dropped from above, blocking their path. The middle-aged man stamped the brake, narrowly avoiding collision, shifted to reverse, retreated a distance, and steered around from another side.

As the container descended, Arthur observed the surrounding areas where cranes could be utilized—perhaps the expert was among them. It seemed Wang Zhantian wasn't planning to spare them tonight. He quickly saw a flash in the sky, shortly followed by a shadow looming towards them.

"To the left, the left." Arthur shouted at the middle-aged man.
