Chapter 894 - 866: Lin Cheng

Chapter 894 - 866: Lin Cheng

"No visit without a purpose, Brother Xiao, what brings you here this time?" Liang Feng pushed aside Xiao Lin’s hand; she didn’t want to be treated like a child by him all the time.

"It’s nothing really, just thought of Liang Hu and came to see you."

"Brother has been gone for so long, you shouldn’t dwell on it," Liang Feng wanted to comfort him, but she suddenly remembered it was Xiao Lin and gave up. This man needed no comforting words, ha!

Xiao Lin responded vaguely, the cozy room carried a hint of a woman’s fragrance, and perhaps due to the alcohol, a wave of fatigue suddenly overpowered him. "Brother Xiao?" Liang Feng noticed Xiao Lin didn’t respond, and when she reached out, she found he was already asleep. Like a child, he leaned against her shoulder and slid onto the sofa with her movements as she stood up.

"Has it been so tiring lately? He really has no guard at all." Liang Feng unbuttoned Xiao Lin’s shirt, and a small disc fell out of his pocket. "What’s this?"

"What’s up?" Lin Cheng emerged from the room, still holding pajamas. "Is he asleep?"

"Yeah!" Her small hand caressed Xiao Lin’s gaunt cheek with an unspeakable heartache.

"Haven’t the newspapers been reporting about his involvement with another woman lately? Could it be that he came to you because of a hit in his love life?" Lin Cheng gave Xiao Lin a glance and honestly, she didn’t have a particularly good impression of this man. Strictly speaking, it was just an indifferent relationship where a casual greeting would suffice.

"He’s not that kind of person." Liang Hu frowned slightly at Lin Cheng’s attitude. "There must be a reason for what he’s done."

Lin Cheng didn’t seem to want to argue with Liang Feng on this matter. To her, it was a personal understanding issue, something they didn’t need to mutually recognize. Xiao Lin was a node in Liang Feng’s life, not hers.

The disc in her hand was mirrored on both sides. Liang Feng studied it inquisitively, what Xiao Lin carried with him must be important, so she grew curious about its contents.

"What is it?" Emerging from the bathroom with wet hair that dripped onto the floor, creating a puddle.

"Not sure! It might be important data!" Liang Feng hesitated for a bit, but placed the disc on the table. It would be uncomfortable to sleep with a hard disc in his pocket.

"Why not just take a look!" Lin Cheng snatched the disc.

"No, Brother Xiao would be angry if he found out." Liang Feng hurriedly tried to retrieve it, but Lin Cheng, being half a head taller, found it a bit difficult to hand it back, holding it up high. "Weren’t you always worried about what he’s been up to? This is your chance, don’t waste it."

"I do want to know, but what if it’s something else?"

"If you won’t look, I’ll look myself." Lin Cheng walked into the bedroom and inserted the disc into the computer. "Feng, this seems to be a highway video."

"Highway video?" Liang Feng curiously leaned over, though her face flushed slightly. Another possibility that had popped into her mind had made her heart race like a little deer.

"Yeah, it’s footage set by a highway camera, looks like a certain residential area’s corridor." Lin Cheng studied the short two-minute video, showing a car coming out of a basement garage and then driving towards the camera.

"This..." Liang Feng glanced at the two-minute footage and then at Lin Cheng. "Can you make out the people in the car? I think Brother Xiao wants to know who’s inside!"

"I can’t do it." Lin Cheng shrugged her hands; she didn’t want to bother with such inexplicable matters.

"If you won’t do it, should I then? I know nothing about this. Come on, please help me, Lin Cheng! I really want to help Brother Xiao, without him, our Fei Feng Gang wouldn’t exist; he’s helped us a lot." Liang Feng pleaded with Lin Cheng. Liang Feng’s childish demeanor was always hard for Lin Cheng to refuse.

Importing the video into software, the waiting process took a while. The computer, having gone black for a moment, slowly returned to the original interface.

"Lin Cheng, is the new software you developed a bit unstable? It stopped working." Liang Feng asked Lin Cheng, who was reading a book during the black screen. Didn’t you agree to help, why leave it alone like this?

"If you don’t know, don’t talk nonsense." Lin Cheng, book in hand, returned to the computer. The video had started to run again. The conversion process took a bit of time and indeed needed improvements. When the video returned to its original position, Lin Cheng began zooming in on each fragmented image. "The image isn’t clear; the resolution’s too low." Lin Cheng tutted.

"Does that mean it’s unviewable?"

"Not really, but it’ll take some time." Once Lin Cheng touched the mouse in front of the computer, she turned into a different person, exuding a certain handsomeness. "Give me something slow to eat; this will be energy-draining work." It wasn’t a plea but an affirmative statement and Liang Feng knowingly grabbed her wallet and left.

Despite being expelled, Lin Cheng was possibly Fei Feng’s most economically savvy member, ingeniously pulling in substantial funds, constantly treading the legal boundaries, expertly navigating and profiteering.

"That’s my disc." Woken by Liang Feng closing the door, Xiao Lin leaned against the doorway.

"Uh huh, you can take it back." Lin Cheng replied without lifting her head, circling sections with the mouse, continuing to enlarge the image, revealing pixelated squares, almost making it hard to tell what it was.

Xiao Lin didn’t move; he simply watched Lin Cheng use a pen-like tool to start outlining point by point on a liquid crystal screen, such an odd way of capturing images was rare. "Your name is Lin Cheng?"

"Yes, Brother Xiao remembers my name." With sarcastic undertone, without Liang Feng around Lin Cheng didn’t need to pretend to hold great respect for this person.

"Looks like I’m not very favored." Xiao Lin lit a cigarette, took two drags and when Lin Cheng looked at him with disdain, he awkwardly put it out. "Sorry!"

Under Lin Cheng’s stylus, connecting dots formed lines that appeared on a blank document, while the automatically sorted mosaic bit by bit removed or modified mismatches. Really impressive software, Xiao Lin thought. "I haven’t seen this software on the market, I’ve seen Hong use it once, but it was very different from yours."

"You know Hong?" Lin Cheng suddenly turned her head, still uncertain about the Hong Xiao Lin mentioned.

"Very well!"

"This software was modified based on his technique, it’s been a while since I last saw him, I’d love to see his reaction to this current software." Lin Cheng said, a smile playing at the corner of her lips.

"I’m sure he’d be proud of you." Lin Cheng’s smile touched a soft spot in Xiao Lin, and he took a deep breath. (To be continued. If you like this work, please visit Qidian.com to vote, your support is my greatest motivation.)
