Chapter 1042 - 1014: Spreading Rumors with Rumors
Information was spreading rapidly across the streets, confirming that the Sin City Lord, Troy, had disappeared, and the one who had taken over Sin City was a woman—a seemingly ordinary woman, yet also not ordinary. No one knew how she had obtained the deed to Sin City, or when she had truly become its master. Moreover, no one knew if Sin City would continue to exist from now on.
Everything has become an unknown. Faced with this sudden transformation, the mayor of Palermo remained silent, replacing his original methods with silence both externally and internally, which inevitably aroused suspicion from others.
Even some unreliable media speculated that the mayor was the mastermind behind this transfer deal, spreading unverified news, while the woman became the focal point of attention in Palermo and across Sicily.
The only person who had seen this woman’s appearance, Director Mo Luo, became the object of news pursuits. Of course, Mo Luo was no fool; he wouldn’t easily disclose any information. At this moment, he was sitting in his office, where he had stayed for many days.
The reporters at the door weren’t the primary cause of Mo Luo’s distress. The people causing his unease came from the five mafia families of Palermo. In fact, ever since the mansion operation, he had been trapped in a peculiar circle revolving around Sin City, as if something had been overlooked until Augusto appeared last night. It was only then that he shockingly realized he had completely forgotten about Fick’s murder. It’s intriguing that the head of a family personally came to the police station to inquire about the case.
Mo Luo lit a cigarette, silently puffing away. In two hours, he would be going to meet an important guest, but before that, he must deal with the reporters outside. Just when he was at a loss, someone pushed the door open, an unexpected figure appearing before him.
"The boss wants me to pick you up." The Magician appeared mysteriously as always, with his tall figure, face hidden by a black hat, and bright red lips; people who never reveal their true identity are never trustworthy.
"Is the time ahead of schedule?" Mo Luo asked as he tidied up his desk. Distrusting people must still be dealt with tactfully.
The Magician nodded in response, not urging Mo Luo but waiting until he finished before leading him through a passage to the police station’s ground floor, using a side door to avoid the reporters in front. As Mo Luo was about to step out, the Magician jumped ahead, swiftly knocking out two guards with a kick and a punch before letting Mo Luo into a champagne-colored car.
Mo Luo was blindfolded throughout the journey, relying on his sense to feel they traveled a long way before being shoved into an elevator and finally into a room where the blindfold was removed.
Blinking to adjust to the room’s lighting, Mo Luo saw a middle-aged man, a Chinese with a short hairstyle and glasses with gold rims. If he wasn’t mistaken, this man was Shao Weihua.
"Director Mo Luo, we finally meet." Shao Weihua spoke first, with two other similar-looking Chinese men in the room while the Magician had retreated or perhaps never entered. "Let me introduce you to two friends, the brothers Wang Zhantian and Wang Zhanting."
Mo Luo seemed to have heard these names before, nodding to them. "Mr. Shao, wasn’t our meeting scheduled for six in the evening? Is there an unexpected change?"
"Plans always fail to keep up with changes. Director Mo Luo understands that adaptability is the path to governance."
"Ah, yes!" This person surely liked to be verbose, and he, as a Westerner, didn’t understand these things.
"Does Mo Luo prefer red wine or Chinese liquor?" Shao Weihua casually asked, pointing at the bottles on the table.
"Red wine will do!"
"I hear Director Mo Luo can hold his liquor well. We count as old acquaintances now, so today’s gathering doesn’t require formality. I must thank you for thinking of publicizing the sale of Sin City, causing some stir, though it’s a strategy I dare not employ. Firstly, this isn’t my territory, so I can’t act rashly. Secondly, your information could create chaos among the mafia here, letting us catch them all in one sweep. Brilliant, truly brilliant!"
Mo Luo felt fortunate he hadn’t turned the glass upside-down just now; otherwise, the wine would have sprayed out of his mouth. He bit the rim of the glass and swallowed the wine, revealing an awkward smile.
"I only wished to quickly assist Mr. Shao in accomplishing his mission, but this suddenly appeared woman..."
"Director Mo Luo, rumors are merely rumors. There’s no need to mention this woman further." Shao Weihua waved his hand, raising his glass to the two silent men beside him.
"Mr. Shao, I think I must correct something." Mo Luo was meticulous, putting aside his love for money; he considered himself an upright person, even if times had changed. In the face of interests, who could ensure they aren’t tempted? He isn’t a saint. "This woman does exist!"
"Woman?" Shao Weihua took Mo Luo’s words seriously. "You genuinely saw a woman? Are the rumors not groundless then?"
"After receiving your message, I brought people to Sin City, and accompanying me were three newcomers who saw the woman. Yet, we met someone claiming to be Eric Clompor’s lawyer on-site. But through my connections in the legal field, none were familiar with him, and he denied any relation with the current Godfather." Mo Luo reported the situation to Shao Weihua truthfully.
"What did you do with the three newcomers with you?" Shao Weihua showed more interest in them than some lawyer.
"Rest assured, I’ve transferred them to other cities the next day; no information will be leaked."
"That’s still insufficient; only dead men tell no tales." Shao Weihua suddenly lost interest in drinking, putting the glass down. "You must leave their information, and I’ll handle them. Once you return, you must elaborate on that woman, naturally not by details, understand?"
"What is Mr. Shao’s meaning?"
"Pass on rumors, allowing those who wish to hear what they desire to hear, that’s it." (To be continued. If you like this work, please visit Qidian (qidian.com) to vote for it. Your support is my greatest motivation.)
