Chapter 1035 - 1007: Gracious Hospitality

At seven in the evening! A high-end tourist resort’s Chinese restaurant in the center of Palermo was reserved by a senior figure. Upon closer inspection, all the staff wore serious expressions. A prominent figure was expected, and starting from four in the afternoon, a number of security personnel had been discreetly stationed here.

These people didn’t seem like ordinary bodyguards. They weren’t fierce or menacing; on the contrary, they were quite polite, clearly well-trained individuals. It would be difficult to extract any information from them.

The Chinese restaurant had been thoroughly inspected inside and out, leaving no stone unturned, not even the smallest decorations. Surveillance cameras had been installed, and a few staff members changed. Such top-level security was rarely seen, so amidst the tension, there was also an anticipation for the appearance of the distinguished guest at seven. Various speculations were quietly spreading across corners.

At seven, two black cars steadily drove into the high-end tourist resort, arriving almost at the same time, yet one still had to give way, creating an awkward situation for one of the cars.

"Let them pass first!" Murong Lengyue’s car had just grazed the boundary of the car slightly ahead, preventing it from smoothly turning into the slope.

"Yes, Miss." The driver reversed the car slightly, and the window of the other car rolled down. The driver waved to the person inside the window, signaling them to go first.

"We’ll go first then." The person inside the car instructed their driver. The small interlude was negligible to outsiders, yet it was a gesture of etiquette. The mayor, sitting alone inside, could see the respect Murong Lengyue extended through these details. He chuckled warmly as the car smoothly parked at the entrance, followed closely by the other vehicle.

"Apologies, Miss Murong, my driver was impolite earlier!" The mayor stepped out of the car, automatically moving towards the car behind. As the driver shielded the car’s roof, an elegant woman gracefully alighted from it.

"The mayor is too humble. It was my driver’s lack of attention that almost caused a collision with your vehicle." Murong Lengyue extended her hand, her fingers fair and slender yet firm.

"Please, I’ve arranged this Chinese meal for our meeting. I hope it’s to your satisfaction?" With a polite handshake, the mayor quickly withdrew. Her soft, delicate fingers stirred emotions even in a man approaching his fifties.

"The mayor is thoughtful; though Leng Yue was raised abroad receiving a Western education, she has a particular fondness for Chinese cuisine. The trouble the mayor went to is deeply appreciated by Lengyue."

As they spoke, the two entered the elevator under security escorting them directly to the twelfth floor of the hotel. Exiting the elevator, they were greeted by a small arched bridge, with flowing water and the sound of chirping birds, transporting them to an oriental garden setting. Murong Lengyue examined the intricately designed entrance, acknowledging that such lavish expenditure meant this proprietor knew how to invest.

Inside, luxury was redefined. The exquisite tableware was merely a sideshow; each table had a private partitioned space. Despite occupying the entire twelfth floor, the seating arrangement suggested limited guest capacity, almost like an exclusive offering.

"I hope this meets with your approval?"

"Has the mayor reserved the entire restaurant?" Murong Lengyue’s tone revealed no emotion as they followed the host into a four-person private room, spacious and pre-arranged dishes already set on the table.

"I know some Eastern customs, preparing cold appetizers before the main course." The mayor, removing his coat, revealed a slightly rounded belly resting on his belt. Murong Lengyue smiled slightly, blinking as wine was poured into their glasses. The mayor then gestured for the excess staff to leave the room.

"Mayor, Lengyue is very grateful for your assistance today. Without you, convincing Director Mo Luo would have been quite difficult." Murong Lengyue raised her glass, courteously straightforward. "You’ve helped me so much, is there anything I can do for you?"

The mayor, who had been all smiles, suddenly wore a troubled expression, occasionally sighing. "What’s the matter, is there something troubling you, Mayor?" Murong Lengyue asked softly.

"That Mo Luo, I don’t know how to put it. He’s diligent but lacks discretion, not to mention this was a misunderstanding from start to finish. Instead of arresting the right people, he’s caused a huge mess. Originally, capturing those gang leaders could have earned him commendations, possibly even promotion next year. But now, look at this mishap; the higher-ups are taking it seriously, and it’s unwittingly involved the Murong Family."

The news spread quickly. Within twenty-four hours, reports would be everywhere, and the internet’s speed was something Murong Lengyue well understood. Newspapers and magazines would soon publish these so-called scandals about the Murong Family.

"Mayor, there’s no need to worry. For the Murong Family, halting the spread of information is a non-issue. Do you know why I haven’t done so?"

"Indeed, Miss Murong! I’m genuinely puzzled."

"Mayor, you can call me Leng Yue; ’Miss Murong’ feels distant. We will have many more opportunities to meet and cooperate in the future. I was deeply enchanted by Sicily’s scenery, which is why I intend to develop the tourism industry here. If you remain so formal, I’ll be at a disadvantage." Murong Lengyue took a sip of wine, her words reassuring the mayor like a balm. "However, my fiancé seems not entirely pleased with the place."

"Oh, are you referring to Mr. Xiao Lin?" the mayor hesitated. "Mo Luo has always been a police officer I trust. Recently, Palermo has been plagued by continuous terrorist incidents, and the perpetrators remain elusive. It’s just that Mr. Xiao’s frequent presence at crime scenes raises Mo Luo’s suspicions, so it’s my hope..."

"Mayor, I’m afraid I cannot agree to your request. All I can say is that Mr. Xiao must have his reasons for being at those scenes. Moreover, I’ve learned that several unusual guests have recently arrived in Palermo. If Mo Luo harbors suspicions, shouldn’t he also investigate these individuals rather than focus on a single point? This inevitably raises doubts about Mo Luo’s motives."
