Chapter 1016 984: King of the Edge (Part 2)

"It hurts, doesn't it!" Weighing nearly one hundred and seventy pounds, under the pull of gravity, Zarco could only let out a painful whimper. "Is this the strength of the feared Sin City Lord? Hahaha, how ridiculous!" After speaking, two more flying knives instantly flew out, shattering Zarco's leg bones with fierce force. "Where is the Sin City Lord?"

Zarco threw his head back and let out a piercing scream, wishing he could die quickly. He lay stiffly without moving, his half-open eyes locked onto a point. Xiao Lin followed his gaze, noticing the person slumped on the table, unresponsive. He smirked and patted Zarco's head.

"In the face of death, humans are ultimately weak." Xiao Lin patted the crow's head, handing Zarco over to his pet. It had been a long time since this big guy had eaten anything alive. "Zarco, let's gamble to see if you're really that unafraid of death."

The crow faced Zarco but delayed acting, silently opening its mouth with sharp fangs, shredding pieces of flesh. Its blood-scented nose rubbed against Zarco, the sound of teeth grinding against teeth was clear, occasionally licking his calves with a tongue that seemed to end it all. The terrifying shiver almost pushed Zarco to the edge.

"Boss, save me!" Eventually, Zarco screamed frantically, shaking his head at the focus point in front of him. He didn't want to be devoured alive; he'd rather have his life ended with a single blow than be skinned alive by this monster. "He, he is..."

The thinnest end of the wine bottle entered Zarco's mouth, piercing through his throat, the entire tongue impaled inside the bottle. Zarco died! In the face of death, he could not escape weakness, but he still died, dying because of his disloyalty.

The lame man stretched lazily, opening his cloudy eyes, stared at the wine bottle in front of him, then woodenly turned his head to the left. "All dead?" he seemed to be muttering to himself, using his hand to part the hair sticky with blood stains. He weighed the bottle to see if there was any more wine left. "Dead is good, much quieter."

The crow paced around Xiao Lin, emitting a low humming sound. It tilted its head, eyes wide with hesitation. "It's okay!" Seeing its hesitation, Xiao Lin patted its big head.

"A fine wolf you've raised, such a shame it's too conspicuous!" The lame man wiped his mouth, a mouthful of yellow teeth exuding a foul stench.

"The City Lord is willing to sacrifice his subordinates just to test Xiao Lin, but what is your intention?" The lame man laughed a few times, rubbing his rough hands over his face.

"Here, I am like a piece of meat, everyone wants a bite of it, and the people here all want to claim this piece of meat. You are an outsider!"

"Considered a reliable stranger?"

"There were a few outsiders before you, sadly, short-sighted, with direct goals." The lame man pointed at the breathless Zarco. "Using you, an outsider, to get rid of one person was a bit much but not entirely fruitless." The lame man shakily stood up, wobbled up the makeshift walkway, gesturing to Xiao Lin. "Let me show you the whole Sin City!"

Lame man! An indomitable person, his other identity as unpredictable as his immortality. Underneath his filthy exterior lay a disguise even the local rats wouldn't approach, yet he held intelligence surpassing even the FBI in Sicily.

Xiao Lin stood beside the lame man, looking out into a haze, sunlight blocked by high walls. From the outside, no one could tell that behind the radiant sunshine lurked an unknown world. "Nicholas Clompor standing behind those high walls, is his life easy?"

The lame man took a swig of wine, dragging his leg forward, the aligned rooftops forming another parallel avenue with the ground.

Xiao Lin followed behind the lame man, remaining cautious and careful in this unfamiliar territory, while the crow seemed unusually excited, prancing around his feet.

In Sin City, there's an especially unique place, seemingly lit for twenty-four hours, appearing as an aura in the darkness.

"This is the center of our Sin City, the source of all electricity." The lame man reached the end of the path, pointing to the isolated area.

"Aren't you afraid I'll destroy your Sin City by bringing me here?"

"I believe you can do it, but you won't." Though still hideously ugly, beneath his repulsive exterior lay far-reaching wisdom. Xiao Lin couldn't help but scrutinize him again, realizing that a person like him, endowed with intelligence over brute force, is the most terrifying.

"Although our Sin City has no direct connection with the underworld, we are considered its collateral. Back then, the Yelv Family gave my predecessors an opportunity, leading to today's achievements. When the current underworld ruler found me, I knew it was time for payback!" The lame man's fervor for wine surpassed even before, sitting down heavily, stretching out a leg. "Here, you only get one chance, heir of the Xiao Family, think carefully."

"One chance?" Xiao Lin sat beside him, mimicking the lame man. This was an opportunity Yelv held for him, and he laughed. "Okay, then ask Dan Ning."

"Just like that?" The lame man was quite surprised. Such an opportunity was rare and unexpected, only to inquire about the safety of someone.

"Yes, just like that. I only need to know the life and death of Mr. Dan Ning."

"He's alive, doing well, and your choice was right." The cripple sighed, thinking that this heir of the Xiao Family was somewhat foolish. If he were to involve the entire Sin City in this conflict, he would still carry out his duty without complaint.

"I believe he will not betray me!" Xiao Lin raised a confident smile, the corners of his mouth widening in front of the cripple.

Suddenly, a beautiful firework exploded in the sky. The cripple jumped up, running in that direction, and Xiao Lin followed closely behind with a brief exclamation.

Though the fireworks were beautiful, they were fleeting. When the cripple arrived in haste, he was met with a scene of blood and chaos. Burned victims were lying scattered, the death toll reaching over thirty. A few sporadic bursts of firework were still exploding. Xiao Lin clearly felt the cripple's body tremble, and he would too if he were in his shoes—there were injured children among them.

"Let me!" Xiao Lin grabbed the cripple, already jumping down from above.

Sin City was a city with its own safety and medical systems. Xiao Lin quickly joined the rescue team. He was a doctor, a fact he never forgot. After bandaging a girl's wound, he caught sight of another unconscious person on a stretcher with extensive burns on half of his body. Judging by his physical signs, it seemed that other sudden medical conditions might be present, indicated by his hissing, labored breaths.

"Wait a moment!" Xiao Lin hurried over, stopping two staff members who were moving the injured man. "He can't be moved like this."

"Who are you? Stop getting in the way here." The staff, annoyed, pushed Xiao Lin aside. There were still many injured inside, and this young man was only causing more trouble.

"He most likely suffered a heavy blow to the lungs and should not be moved carelessly." Based on the breathing sounds, the person's lungs were traumatized. His breathing was rapid, exhaling more than inhaling, perhaps due to smoke blocking his airway or other factors that triggered his condition during the incident.

"Get out of the way!" The staff forcefully shoved Xiao Lin aside, shutting the vehicle door with a bang. Before Xiao Lin could intervene again, the vehicle had already departed.

Xiao Lin looked helplessly at the departing vehicle; the man would die before reaching the hospital. He raised his head, glanced at the cripple standing above, and then looked at the site of the accident. Fireworks don't ignite themselves, and this place was an amusement center; he thought the cripple must be thinking the same.

The cripple watched Xiao Lin from high above without a word, turning to walk back the way he came. Xiao Lin jumped several times onto the rooftop. "City Lord!" The cripple didn't look back, and Xiao Lin knew that following him further would be pointless.

Fireworks are not bombs, but they can create a powerful effect. Xiao Lin took a few steps, then turned back, facing a grey silhouette.

Lucifer! A name representing the ruler of Hell, the symbol of the King of Wickedness. Alongside him was a man dressed in black, the Magician! The Demon King's messenger.

The Magician removed his top hat towards Xiao Lin, bowing at a ninety-degree angle, lifting his head with a mocking curve at the corner of his red lips.

Faster than Xiao Lin was Black Crow, having already surged forward, landing on the ground. The large canine falling from the sky was an already conspicuous presence. Black Crow let out a roar, once again leaping forward.

Xiao Lin followed behind it, man and beast running through the streets as if no one else existed, with two figures swiftly moving overhead.

No way out! As they ran into a dead-end alley, Black Crow came to a halt, a towering wall blocking its path. Xiao Lin climbed to the top of the wall, outside was a bright sunlit world, the junction of light and shadow of another world.

Lucifer stood on this line, opposing Xiao Lin. "Stop!" Xiao Lin spat out the words.

"The game has just begun!"

"With innocent lives?"

"You can only blame yourself for being too weak. Missing opportunities equals dragging innocents into it. That's how the game is—the kinder you are to others, the more they die."

"All for someone like me?"

"Yi acknowledged you as the master of 'Black Crow,' but I, Lucifer, will never recognize a weak person like you. If you want to eliminate Wang Zhantian, you must get past us first, but you are no match for him. This is a warning, Sin City can collapse at any moment!" (To be continued.
