Chapter 197 - 197

Having convinced himself, he drew a large red 'X' over the position marked 'Number Seven'.

*Bang!*

Just then, the laboratory door was violently kicked open. A white-haired man charged in and threw his arms around the Sannin. "Orochi, Orochi, I need your help!"

Orochimaru sighed, his expression resigned. "Jiraiya, I've told you. I'm working right now... Fine. Tell me, what is it this time?"

"I knew you'd come through!"

The white-haired Toad Sage instantly wiped away his fake tears and broke into a wide grin.

"Help me woo Tsunade!"

Kakashi paced outside the medical room, his anxiety plain. He looked like an expectant father waiting for his wife to give birth.

Naruto ran into him on the way back. Kakashi had initially planned to greet him normally and head straight to the Konoha Forest to meet Guy. But when the jonin leaned in close and saw the girl in Naruto's arms, he immediately pushed aside his forehead protector. Uncovering his left eye, he activated his Mangekyo Sharingan just to verify if what he was seeing was real.

Once he confirmed the girl's identity, Kakashi, the perpetually worn-out man, changed completely. He became intensely alert and full of energy, no longer listless or frail. He followed Naruto to the medical room and waited outside the doors, refusing to leave his post.

The door finally swung open. Naruto stepped out. The moment he appeared, Kakashi firmly grabbed his arm.

"Naruto, how is she? Is she going to be okay?"

Naruto looked at the panicked Kakashi. He briefly considered joking: 'Congratulations, mother and child are safe.'

Or perhaps: 'The situation is critical. We can only save one, the mother or the baby. Which do you choose?'

But he wisely held back the dark humor.

"You should be asking someone else about that," Naruto said with a helpless expression. "I'm not a medical ninja. I was just assisting. The one who actually treated her was Kabuto."

Naruto had only gone in to help stabilize her with Yang Release. He wasn't a professional surgeon.

Upon hearing this, Kakashi turned and grabbed Kabuto's arm, his expression eager and desperate.

"Kabuto! How is Rin? Is she out of danger? How's her condition?"

"Kakashi-senpai." Kabuto calmly pulled his arm free. "For the specifics, you should ask Sakura. I performed the surgery, but Sakura handled the final post-op treatment. What I can tell you is that the procedure was a complete success."

Only after hearing those words did Kakashi finally remember how to breathe.

Kakashi turned his gaze. "Sakura!"
