Chapter 380: The Truth And Shock
Chapter 380: The Truth And Shock
Eira’s POV
Not knowing what else to do, I looked toward Kael as he approached us with Alpha Gerald.
Perhaps I was not emotionally strong enough to comfort someone else properly. I was a mess myself in that regard.
As expected, Alpha Gerald went straight to his mate. Though his face remained composed, his eyes betrayed him. Through their bond, he must have felt every tremor of her grief.
The moment he reached her, Luna Iris’s composure shattered. She stepped into his arms, sobbing softly against his chest. His embrace closed around her instantly, firm and protective, as if shielding her from the world itself.
Watching them, I could see the depth of their connection. The quiet understanding. The way a powerful Alpha could become gentle, vulnerable, only for his mate.
It was beautiful. And heartbreaking.
I heard her muffled voice against his chest, accompanied by sobs. "Gerald...Can’t we just....tell..." and she sobbed.
Alpha Gerald looked at me, his gaze overwhelming my heart.
Just then a warm arm wrapped around my shoulder.
Kael.
He drew me closer to his side as if he knew I needed a comfort as well.
I finally tore my gaze away from the royal couple and looked up at him. My own eyes had grown moist from witnessing Luna Iris’s pain.
"That was their baby in the portrait," I whispered, my voice trembling. "The daughter they lost. "
Kael gave a subtle nod.
He already knew.
"They couldn’t find her," I continued, my throat tightening. "Just like you found Raven... can’t you find her too? I know many years have passed, but still..."
I did not know why, but in my heart, Kael felt capable of the impossible. As though if anyone could undo fate itself, it would be him.
He simply looked at me, steady and silent.
I spoke again, words tumbling out hurried and fast as though I feared they would disappear if I hesitated.
"She was a rare pureblood like me. That means she must be alive. Purebloods like us don’t die easily. They must have kept her somewhere. They must have used her blood. Perhaps they even found her fated mate. They could be using her to produce more pureblood children. They—"
Shhh!
Kael’s finger came gently to my lips, silencing me.
"She’s a rare pureblood." He said in a meaningful way.
Of course I knew it. "Yes, and—"
"Born once in a hundred years," Kael interrupted me.
"I already know that..."
"That means," he said again, his tone firmer now, "there is always only one in existence."
His eyes held mine as if urging me to truly think.
And I did.
My mind went still. Only one in existence.
The words echoed again and again.
"Only one..." I whispered faintly. "Does that mean she died... and I was born after that? That means we can’t find her?"
"You’re smarter than that," Kael said gently.
His thumb brushed away the faint trace of tears from my cheek.
"You shouldn’t look down upon yourself. You are special," and he looked towards Alpha Gerald and Luna Iris. "the one deserves to born in such a powerful bloodline."
I swallowed hard. ’What was he implying at?’
As I followed Kael’s gaze, I found the two looking at me with a longing gaze filled with storm of emotions they were trying to suppress.
I felt the world had turned still all of a sudden, all I could feel or hear were my own loud heartbeats, the breathing felt chaotic.
"Don’t you think the woman in the portrait looks like you?" I heard Kael say again.
My gaze slowly turned to the portrait. The young Luna Iris in the portrait indeed looked somewhat similar. But I hadn’t given a thought that she was kind of similar to the reflection I see every day in the mirror, my own reflection.
I looked at Luna Iris again, trying to process this situation. Now I understood the kind of gaze she looked at me all the time since we arrived here, it was a gaze of longing....mother.
She is my mother? The man next to her is my father?
I felt as if strength had left my legs and I almost tumbled into Kael’s arm who was already prepared to hold me.
My teary eyes looked at my mate. "Kael, they are...." words betrayed me.
"Your parents," he told me, holding me firm. "This is your home, your family."
This confirmation only made me feel heavy in heart, my strength as if leaving me entirely, unable to stand on my feet. My hands clutched his arms, and I entirely clung to him, the exhaustion drowning me caused by this shock and the overwhelming emotions.
Kael lifted me in his arms, my brain dizzy. All I heard were the voices before my mind was drifting into silence and darkness.
"Is she alright?" Roman’s panicked voice.
"Damn! we shouldn’t have revealed it to her," It was Lucian.
"We should have given her some hints before," Rafe, the bastard cared.
"She is alright. Just in shock." That’s Jason’s voice.
"Please bring her to the room," It was Luna Iris’s soft voice the last I could hear before I was no longer conscious.
I didn’t know how long I was unconscious, but when I woke up, I found myself huddled under the soft blanket warm blanket, a comfortably soft mattress under me.
"You awake?"
I opened my eyes, only to see Jason in my sight, sitting at the edge of the bed. His expressions relaxed, but his gaze hid the worry he felt.
I looked around and realised I was inside a room. And my mates were just here, along with my son. They all seemed to have waiting for me to wake up.
But then I spotted Alpha Gerald, Luna Iris and Evan as well, just as worried.
"How are you feeling?" Jason’s voice got my attention.
"I feel fine," I assured him.
He helped me sit in the bed while Kael arranged the cushions behind me. Jason offered me water first. I truly needed it.
Raven climbed the bed, and came to me, his eyes worried.
"Did I scare you?" Just as I asked, he moved ahead and hugged me, the hold of his small arms firm around me, he buried his face in the curve between my neck and shoulder.
"He was worried when you went unconscious," Kael told me, "scared, I must say."
My hands gently caressed his back. "I am sorry for worrying you. Mommy is just a little exhausted due to long travel."
He didn’t let me go, and I didn’t ask him to either. Needed to let him feel everything was alright.
I couldn’t be happier than this that I truly meant something to my son now, that I wasn’t a mother just in name.
My gaze couldn’t help but drift to the couple, my parents, but I didn’t know what to say to them at this moment.
Maybe I should let my own emotions settle before I talk to them. For now, let me enjoy the comfort my son was providing me. It felt like a dream already.
