Chapter 585: That’s a Relief
Chapter 585: That’s a Relief
"Ahh! Home sweet home at last!" I sighed, flopping onto the bed and rolling around, right as Aria leapt on beside me, stretching her arms out with a grin.
"I know it’s only been a few days since we were home...but it feels like it’s been forever," She replied, before playfully hitting my chest with a pillow.
Today’s the 17th of January, 2171, and we were finally back home.
The moment we were discharged from the hospital, we headed straight home immediately. The hospital we were in was located in Sanctuary Eta, we took a jet back to Sanctuary Theta, along with Cleo.
Ciel and Jaden were going to stay hospitalized for another day or two, just to make sure they were fully okay.
Fortunately, our apartment building hadn’t gotten damaged in the Monsters’ assault, largely thanks to Isla eliminating most of the Calamity Level Monsters that invaded, as well as the former Guildmasters of the Dragon Slayer and Paragon Guilds, and the Guildmaster of the Demonsbane Guild, taking care of the rest of the Calamity Levels.
As a result, Sanctuary Theta suffered the least amount of damage and casualties, the other Sanctuaries are in far worse states.
There are plans to kick off large-scale rebuilding efforts soon, and a mass funeral is going to held in a few days too.
I handed over the remains of our team members who died in the Final Dungeon to the HUC, who were going to ensure that the remains made their way to the individuals’ families and loved ones.
It’ll take some time before things start to settle, a lot of people died in the final battle. Though, thanks to the efforts of the Hunters, civilian casualties during the Monsters’ invasion of the Sanctuaries were low, the majority of the deaths were among the Hunters.
Of course, the appearance of the Final Dungeon had killed thousands, and before that, the rampage of the first three Sentinels to appear resulted in immense casualties too.
And when the Monsters invaded the Sanctuaries during the final battle, the civilians were evacuated into underground shelters, and most of them had remained safe.
But the civilians in two of the Sanctuaries weren’t so lucky, the Monsters found the entrances to the underground shelters in those Sanctuaries and killed a large number of people before they ended up getting warped back to their world after I killed Vaszel.
The exact death toll is still unconfirmed, but it’s already well into the millions.
But, and this might sound a bit cold, it could’ve been a lot worse. We were just about one misstep away from utter annihilation and extinction, it wouldn’t be a stretch to call our victory a fluke.
Still, we did win, we prevented humanity’s extinction. We’ll live on, and carry the memories of those who died with us...huh, that feels a bit unusually cheesy for me.
"Hey, now that we’re back home...Ai, tell us about this whole immortality thing," Remarked Aria, bumping her shoulder against mine as she rolled next to me.
We decided to wait until it was just the two of us before asking Ai about that, so yeah.
"Oh, I get it, like how Luxuria and the former Sentinels lost their Regeneration Skills after becoming Apostles," I nodded thoughtfully.
"Wow, nice. Have we gotten stronger at all?" Aria asked her curiously.
"Meaning...?" I prompted her.
"No way, we have our own personal dimension now?! I wanna see!" Exclaimed Aria excitedly.
"Same here, let’s-...oh, actually, before we check it out, is there anything else, Ai? Any other effects resulting from our newfound immortality?"
"Wait...come to think of it, I didn’t need to use the bathroom even once while we were hospitalized," Responded Aria as her eyes widened in realization, following a brief silence.
"Holy shit...well, that’s real fucking convenient," I added in bemusement.
"Hm...hold on. What about, um...Kai’s, you know," Frowned Aria warily.
"Well, uh...cum."
Huh?
"Y-You know, semen," Responded Aria awkwardly.
"Oh, sweet."
"That’s a relief."
