Chapter 583: We Can Finally Relax

Chapter 583: We Can Finally Relax

Hm...? Where...am I?

I squinted as I opened my eyes, blinking a couple of times as I waited for my eyes to adjust to the brightness. This sterile, chemically smell, am I in a hospital?

"Kai! You’re awake!"

A flash of red appeared in my peripheral, crashing onto me before I could react, before embracing me tightly.

"Hey, Aria...," I smiled, patting her head as she hugged me.

"Mm," She grinned, lifting her head and meeting my gaze with a bright gleam in her eyes.

"Um, I’m up too," Came Cleo’s voice, giving me a wave as I glanced to my right.

"Yeah, now we’re just waiting on those two to wake up," Remarked Aria, before nodding to my left.

I glanced that way, to see Jaden and Ciel asleep on a pair of beds.

Oh...Jaden’s legs are gone, so is Ciel’s right arm. I see, it was probably too late to save their lost limbs by the time we were healed. In the way, their improved natural healing worked against then...but then again, if it wasn’t for those slight healing factors, they probably would have succumbed to their injuries and died.

"How long have I been out for?" I inquired curiously.

"It’s almost been forty-eight hours since we were recovered, almost sixty since we initially entered the Final Dungeon. I woke up about an hour ago myself, Cleo got up about twenty minutes before me," Responded Aria, taking a seat beside me on the bed and taking hold of my hand, lacing her fingers between mine.

"Hm...? Where am I...?" Suddenly muttered Jaden, his eyelids fluttering open as he tried to sit up, a frown appearing on his face as he struggled.

"Hey, uh, your legs are-...," I began awkwardly.

"Woah, my legs are gone...oh, right, they got disintegrated. Well, that sucks. But, hey, at least I’m alive...wasn’t sure I’d survive," He remarked with a laugh, before using his telekinesis to prop himself up.

"Wow, you’re taking this better than probably most people would in your situation," Responded Aria in bemusement.

"I mean, yeah, this isn’t great...but it isn’t the end of the world. I can use my Magic to make up for my missing legs, though it does feel weird not having them anymore, that’s gonna take some getting used to," He replied with a wry smile, before adding, "Oh, and speaking of the end of the world, just to confirm...we did win, right?"

"Yeah, we sure did. The Demon Lord’s dead, I can confirm ," I nodded in response.

"Um, apparently, all the Monsters attacking the Sanctuary suddenly disappeared, around the same time the Final Dungeon began to fall apart, so yeah, it’s over," Added Cleo.

I see, so what he said was true.

"Oh, seriously? Well, that’s convenient. I figured we’d have to wipe out all the remaining Monsters, if they hadn’t wiped out the Sanctuaries already," Jaden sighed in relief.

"By the way, how exactly did you survive? I thought you were dead for sure," Chimed in Aria curiously.

"I managed to stay conscious, and used my telekinesis to create a funnel between my wrecked throat and lungs, which let me breathe. I also used it to stem my bleeding and keep my broken bones from piercing my vital organs.

One of the Apostles, the horny Greater Demon lady, then carried me to safety, and helped me stay conscious, though I think she disappeared at some point, and then Kai showed up...the rest is kinda blurry," He explained, stretching his arms out before adding as he glanced down by the side of his bed, "By the way, what’s this box?"

"Um, they said your Personalis Arma is in it. They couldn’t transport it directly, but they managed to get it into that box and brought it here that way," Cleo informed him.

Oh, there’s a box next to Ciel’s bed too, her weapon must be in it. Huh, and speaking of whom...

All of us turned our attention in her direction as she let out a mutter and shifted, her eyelids slowly opening. She began to try and get up, before losing her balance as she tried to put her nonexistent right hand on the mattress.

"Woah, careful...I got you," Remarked Jaden, as he used his telekinesis to prop her up.

"I’m alive...," She mumbled, looking like she was still half-asleep as she glanced around, before adding as she shook her head, "Thought I was dead."

"You and me both," Nodded Jaden in agreement.

"Looks like my arm couldn’t be saved in time. But at least I’m alive...not all of us were so lucky," She responded quietly.

None of us were sure what to say in response to that. Of the five of us survivors, she’d easily suffered the greatest loss in this battle, I can’t even imagine how she must be feeling right now.

And there’s probably nothing I can say to make it better...if I were in her position, I doubt words alone would change anything. I don’t even want to think about it...

"Hey, um, it’s-...," Began Aria, breaking the silence, before trailing off as the sound of the door handle twisting echoed out.

We glanced up as the door opened, a familiar figure walking into the room. Oh, I remember him. Cameron Del, the Ace Healer from the Demonsbane Guild, he healed me during the HCC.

Was he the one who healed us?

"Oh, Cameron...glad to see you’re okay," Remarked Ciel quietly.

"Yeah, likewise. And the same goes for the rest of you too...I’m glad to see you’re all awake, welcome back," He greeted us with a smile, before adding, "Alright, I’m sure you’re all still fatigued, at least mentally, so I’ll go over each of your current conditions, and once you get more rest and recover your strength, you can all head home."

"Home sounds real good right about now...after all this time, we can finally relax without any looming concerns," I replied, as I gave Aria’s hand a soft squeeze.

Yeah...I’m really looking forward to spending my time doing a whole lot of absolutely nothing for the foreseeable future...
