Chapter 447 - 210: The Truth
Chapter 447 - 210: The Truth
As soon as those words were spoken, all the flight passengers and officers turned pale with fright.
The drug dealers dared to demand the police’s surrender.
It sounded utterly ludicrous.
But it was true.
No one doubted the capabilities of the Mexican drug cartels.
In the past few decades, more than 90,000 people have gone missing in Mexico, and hundreds of thousands have been murdered, including not only civilians but also police and officials who stood against the drug trafficking groups.
In 2020 alone, more than 500 officers were killed, including a police officer who was honored as a drug-fighting hero by Mexico for his outstanding achievements in an anti-drug operation, and given a grand funeral. But the day after his funeral, his entire family was silenced by the drug cartel.
"Alemann, you dare threaten the National Guard? We managed to capture Audilavi, and we can capture you just as easily. If you really piss us off, I’ll goddamn launch a missile straight into your lair!"
Miliburn was a retired soldier who had been through all sorts of gunfire and shelling; there was no way he would fear threats.
But not all officers thought the same way, especially those who integrated into the National Guard from the Federal Police department. Some instinctively lowered their guns, as if their confidence had already wavered internally.
"Captain Miliburn, the official deadline has passed, why hasn’t the backup arrived yet?"
"Ten minutes ago, the command center said the US-Mexico Joint Forces were closing in, but now we’ve lost contact, who knows what the hell they’re up to!"
Miliburn’s answer was obviously unsatisfactory to his subordinates’ questions.
Lutz’s face was full of anxiety, forced to place his last hope in Gu Ji, "Damn it! Mr. Yasen, what should we do now? Do you have any good tactics?"
"No." Gu Ji answered bluntly. Tactics can only maximize firepower advantages; they’re not magic and can’t conjure personnel and ammunition out of thin air. Without reinforcements, they can’t possibly escape Sinaloa Group’s territory, "But I feel like something’s wrong."
"Wrong?"
Miliburn questioned back.
Gu Ji put down his binoculars, nodding, "The armed personnel hired by the drug dealers all have specialized military and police training; they can’t be oblivious to our waning firepower. If they really had the strength to quickly wipe us out, do you think they’d still give us a chance to surrender?"
"Of course, those demons know nothing of mercy." Miliburn raised an eyebrow, suddenly widening his eyes, "So what you’re saying is..."
"Exactly, the US-Mexico support forces are probably already nearby, perhaps encountering harassment from the drug dealers and getting jammed by microwave weapons, losing contact. Alemann must have gotten this intel, and is eager to take us down, capture the HVT, and negotiate with the government. Otherwise, once the joint forces arrive, they won’t stand a chance of resisting!"
Even with better equipment, the drug traffickers can never really compete with true military forces, especially when the Americans personally step in.
Gu Ji’s words undoubtedly reassured everyone.
His powerful analytical abilities and professional tactfulness were indeed very convincing, even prompting Miliburn to ask him instinctively:
"Should I continue to hold out?"
"Holding out won’t work; the drug dealers’ overwhelming firepower will certainly lead them to choose a full assault. To ensure our safety, I suggest splitting up: one group takes the HVT and retreats north through the dirt road, while another stays behind to cover the retreat, using the hijacker we captured in Torreon to negotiate with the drug dealers, delaying them and buying the HVT a safe distance."
"Good idea!"
The eyes of several officers lit up, but hearing the second half of the sentence led them into a brief silence.
Everyone knew.
Staying behind to cover the retreat in this situation was a sure path to death.
"I’ll take charge." Miliburn suddenly spoke up, "Lutz, Reyes, all retired Marine Corps members stay, I now hand over command to Mr. Yasen, and everyone follows orders to protect the HVT’s retreat!"
"Captain!"
"Follow orders!"
Miliburn sternly rebuked.
The Marine Corps, worthy of being called "the nation’s last line of defense," stepped up at the critical moment, ready to resist the drug dealers’ attacks to the end.
Gu Ji silently admired them, but under the current circumstances, there was no time for sentiments.
He instructed officers to leave all excess ammunition to Miliburn and the others, and quickly led the group to cover the retreat of the purple bus.
Lutz used the sunglasses-wearing old lady to start negotiating with the drug dealers.
But it seemed the blonde had limited status within the Sinaloa Drug Cartel; the delay was short before Alemann ordered an outright assault. Without a majority of the officers’ firepower, the drug dealers easily advanced up the hill.
Lutz was killed on the spot, and Miliburn took a bullet to the shoulder.
Seeing the purple bus had already evacuated, Alemann was enraged, pulling out his black SIG Sauer P226 pistol, aiming at his head.
"Bang——!"
The gunshot rang out, and blood spattered.
It was Alemann’s corpse that fell.
The next moment, a high-frequency vibration emanated from the sky. Gu Ji looked up to see two black-gray Black Hawk helicopters skimming above the treetops, one of the cabin doors open, with a sniper in full black gear wielding a Barrett M107 large-caliber sniper rifle, aiming at the machine gunner on the armored vehicle.
A few drug dealers tried to lift their rifles to fight back, only to be met by four spinning, dark General Electric M134 Miniguns spitting fire snakes that looked like death rays. Any place they touched erupted in dirt and rocks, leaving the drug dealers shot to pieces.
Engine roars pierced the air as armed pickup trucks from the US-Mexico Joint Forces charged into the firefight scene, even deploying a black DN-VI Lynx armored vehicle and a DN-V Buffalo wheeled self-propelled howitzer. Compared to the drug dealers’ makeshift armored tanks, these were the real heavy military standard firepower weapons.
