Chapter 438 206: Sudden Shootout
Chapter 438 206: Sudden Shootout
As soon as the words left his mouth, the white Toyota SUV revved its engine, turned around, and headed deep into the wilderness.
Miliburn, who had previously been a scout, naturally understood that this was likely a sentry for the drug dealers.
After all, Torreon was so close to the Sinaloa Drug Cartel's territory, there were practically informants everywhere. Maybe from the moment they left the police headquarters, someone had already notified their superiors.
"Chase after them, force that car to stop!"
"Yes!"
With the order given, a Humvee M1152 light armored vehicle immediately turned around. Its rugged off-road tires crushed the grass along the edge of the highway as it roared like a beast into the mountains.
A normal civilian SUV could never outmatch a modified armed vehicle in off-road capability.
As the gap closed steadily, the drug dealers got anxious. A black gun barrel stuck out from the rear right window, rattling off shots…
The gunfire erupted.
One of the bullets splattered against the external steel plating of the Humvee with a clanging sound, like a mosquito bite, having no effect whatsoever.
This vehicle was specifically ordered by the Mexican government to combat the drug cartels. Even though it's only a light armored vehicle, it can easily withstand rounds from 7.62mm machine guns and rifle fire. Except for mines and bombs, it can handle grenades and shrapnel from nearby 155mm artillery shells.
"Permission to fire!"
"Open fire!!"
The moment Miliburn's command crackled through the headset, Gu Ji and the others heard the gunner at the back of the vehicle shout. The leading three armed pickups instinctively separated from the convoy, forming a spread-out shape, aiming their guns at the Toyota SUV, and unleashed a barrage of gunfire.
"Cease fire!"
Miliburn shouted.
The barrage lasted only about two seconds.
The target vehicle swayed from side to side and came to a stop. The rear window glass was completely shattered, and the doors were riddled with bullet holes.
Gu Ji even vaguely saw blood splatters on the ceiling and side windows.
Even though the armed pickups used light machine guns,
the heavy-duty barrel provided a longer combustion stroke and durability, granting it higher power, range, and firing rates than regular automatic rifles.
Against civilian vehicles, it was like crushing them.
"Screech," the convoy halted around the white Toyota, and the doors swung open in unison. Miliburn, along with seven or eight police officers armed with fully equipped G36 rifles, approached the target from all sides.
"Two targets found in the back seat, confirmed dead!"
"The driver is dead!"
"Movement in the front passenger seat! Movement detected!"
Even though Gu Ji and the others were in the armed pickup, they could still hear the communications among Miliburn and his team through their tactical earphones.
"Drop your weapon! Raise your hands!"
"Don't do anything stupid! Show your weapon and open the door immediately!!"
At least three guns and two machine guns were already aimed at the drug dealer in a white tank top, his cap worn backward in the front passenger seat.
After repeated warnings from Miliburn, the man in the white tank top slowly raised the silver handgun in his hand. With his other hand, he gingerly reached under the door panel and pushed the door open a crack.
Seeing this, Riddle finally breathed a sigh of relief and couldn't help but quip.
"Looks like the National Guard of Mexico is no worse than the FBI SWAT in combat ability, full of security; we don't have to fear those drug dealers anymore!"
"Shut up."
Gu Ji frowned, pressed the walkie-talkie button, and reminded, "Captain Miliburn, be careful. The opponent might be hiding a grenade."
He didn't know whether Miliburn heard him, but in his line of sight, Miliburn was still negotiating with the drug dealer:
"Yes, just like that! Surrender is your only choice..."
"Watch out!"
In an instant, everything changed.
At the moment the car door opened, the drug dealer in the white tank top suddenly lowered the barrel of his gun, but Miliburn yelled, and along with two officers, they pulled their triggers simultaneously.
Before the drug dealer had a chance to fire, countless bullets tore into him like a sieve.
Blood splattered on the cracked side window glass, obscuring the drug dealer's facial expression.
As the body slowly slid down from the gap of the opened car door, an officer was about to confirm the target's death when, at the instant it hit the ground, a round black object rolled from the drug dealer's left hand.
"Run! Grenade!"
"Captain, watch out!!"
In a critical moment, an officer tackled Miliburn to the ground.
With a "boom," the explosion's shockwave mixed with debris swept in all directions. Smoke and dust filled the air, accompanied by the police's agonized screams.
"Captain! Captain!!"
"Ah——!"
The nearby officers quickly rushed into the smoke and dragged Miliburn and another officer out.
Fortunately, Miliburn wasn't significantly harmed, but the officer who tackled him wasn't so lucky. Despite wearing a bulletproof vest, his legs were facing the blast zone, and the tactical pants on the back of his thighs were shredded by the shockwave, embedded with five or six steel balls, blood everywhere.
If not for maintaining a five or six-meter tactical safety distance, their legs would've been as obliterated as the drug dealer's body at the center of the explosion.
Listening to the police's screams, Riddle's face turned slightly pale.
"Fuck, I take back what I said earlier. These... these are just a bunch of death-defying lunatics. Isn't there no death penalty in Mexico? Why would the drug dealers... Hey? Mr. Yasen, what are you doing!"
Before he could finish speaking, Gu Ji suddenly opened the car door and rushed out.
"First aid kit, bandage him up immediately, get him to the vehicle!" Miliburn, breathing heavily, with bloodshot eyes indicating he was furious, plunged into the blood-soaked Toyota, searching through the drug dealer's phones and belongings.
