As soon as he finished speaking, Yu Chen frowned slightly, seemingly puzzled.

"I'm afraid the world will collapse if he dies," Su Wuli said with some worry. "I don't know if it will happen, but I don't dare to gamble."

Yu Chen looked at her without saying anything, and Su Wuli couldn't tell what he was thinking.

She gritted her teeth. "You are a character in a book, someone who was written down."

As soon as he finished speaking, his brows furrowed even more deeply.

His lips moved slightly but no sound came out.

Su Wuli was still holding his face, feeling his skin slowly getting hot.

The darkness in his eyes lessened somewhat, and his pupils trembled slightly.

His fingers tightened around her waist, squeezing her so hard it hurt a little.

Su Wuli didn't break free, but looked at him, waiting for him to speak.

Yu Chen's Adam's apple bobbed up and down.

Then his lips twitched slightly, but it wasn't a smile or anything like that.

Su Wuli did not expect him to be so calm.

"What do you mean?" Yu Chen asked.

Su Wuli was taken aback, then realized that he wanted more details.

"You are a character in a novel," Su Wuli said, looking directly into his eyes. "The novel is called 'Encountering Mountains and Rivers,' and you..."

Su Wuli paused, her eyes flickering slightly, then took a deep breath, "He's the villain in the book."

As soon as he finished speaking, Yu Chen's brow twitched.

Looking at the face before her, Su Wuli couldn't help but think of the man's final fate, her heart felt heavy, and even her breathing became labored.

A lump formed in his throat, and tears welled up in his eyes again.

"What happened in the end?" Yu Chen asked calmly, as if it had nothing to do with him.

She opened her mouth, but couldn't utter those two words.

It's just two words, but now it has to come out of her mouth.

She couldn't bring herself to say it.

His lips trembled for a long time before he managed to squeeze out a sound.

His voice trembled uncontrollably as he said, "Lingchi (death by a thousand cuts)."

After she finished speaking, her tears fell even more fiercely.

Su Wuli lowered her head and buried her face in his neck, not daring to look at him.

Her fingers gripped the fabric of his neck.

She felt the man's body stiffen slightly.

However, he relaxed in an instant, as if he had deflated.

He chuckled.

"Lingchi" (death by a thousand cuts).

Yu Chen repeated, "So I'm going to die no matter what."

Su Wuli lifted her head from the crook of his neck, her eyes filled with tears and she could not see clearly.

She raised her hand to wipe her eyes, but still couldn't see clearly.

The man's face blurred before her eyes; only his eyes seemed to be brimming with something.

Su Wuli didn't know what it was, she only felt that the thing was burning her heart.

It hurts so much that even breathing hurts.

Suddenly, Yu Chen made a move.

Where are you going?

The man stood up from the couch, and Su Wuli clung to him, hugging him tightly with both her arms and legs.

When Yu Chen stood up, Su Wuli slid down a little.

She quickly pulled her arms tighter and pressed her face against his neck, her tears smearing all over his neck.

Then he spoke, coldly saying, "I will go and kill Xiao Junyi."

Upon hearing this, Su Wuli was taken aback, clamping her legs together even tighter, her whole body clinging to him as if she wanted to embed herself into him.

"No." Her voice was urgent, broken into two short, breathless gasps. "No...you mustn't go..."

Yu Chen stood still, saying, "I am the villain."

He seemed to accept it, thinking, "Having committed murder and arson, and done countless evil deeds, isn't killing the male protagonist a matter of course?"

"No, listen to me—"

"I've heard you say a lot already," he interrupted her.

He raised his large hand to support her and lifted her up slightly.

Su Wuli was caught off guard and jumped up a bit, squeezing her legs even tighter, pressing her whole body against him.

Like a frightened cat.

Yu Chen looked down at her.

Su Wuli's face was very close to his, close enough that she could see the bloodshot in his eyes.

"You said I'm a character from a novel, and that I'll eventually be executed by slow slicing." He paused, his Adam's apple bobbing. "What else do you want to say?"

Is there anything else you want to say?

Su Wuli couldn't say anything for a while; she had said everything she needed to say.

"You've finished speaking," Yu Chen said. "It's my turn."

Su Wuli tightened her grip on his neck slightly.

"Afraid?" Yu Chen asked.

"Mm." She nodded.

"Are you afraid the world will collapse if I kill him, or are you afraid no one will cover for your lie if I kill him?"

"I'm afraid you'll die." Su Wuli buried her head in his neck.

Why?

"I don't want you to die, what will I do if you die?" Su Wuli's voice trembled.

She sobbed, gasping for breath, her tears soaking his neck.

Yu Chen moved his hand from her waist to the back of her head, clasped it, and pressed it down.

"Don't cry."

Hearing the man soften his words, she cried even harder.

Yu Chen carried her back to the couch.

Su Wuli was still sitting on his lap, her arms and legs still wrapped around him, sobbing in his arms.

"I will not go."

Upon hearing this, Su Wuli lifted her head from her chest, tears still clinging to her eyelashes.

Blink, and a drop falls.

"Really?" she asked in disbelief.

"Really," Yu Chen said. "I'm not like you, you little liar."

Su Wuli was stunned for a moment, then cried even harder.

"I'm not lying to you..."

She punched his chest lightly, but not very hard.

Soft and limp, "I didn't lie to you..."

Yu Chen grasped her fist as it clenched down. "You didn't lie to me, so why did you go with him?"

Su Wuli choked back tears as she explained, "He pulled me away, and before I could even react, someone came to assassinate me. The scene was too chaotic for me to leave."

Yu Chen frowned slightly as he looked at her. "Assassination?"

"Mm." Su Wuli nodded.

"Are you hurt?" Yu Chen asked seriously.

"No, he got slashed on the hand while blocking the way."

Yu Chen didn't speak, but he rubbed his fingers against the back of her hand.

Su Wuli thought she should explain, and said softly, "If it weren't for him, I might—"

"You thank him?" the man interrupted her.

He smirked, "Those people came to kill him, why are you thanking him?"

Upon hearing this, Su Wuli opened her mouth as if to say something, but then closed it again.

She lowered her head and buried her face in his chest, saying in a muffled voice, "If he hadn't been distracted by protecting me, he wouldn't have gotten hurt."

Then he heard the man laugh mockingly, "Can't even protect a woman, what a piece of trash."
