Chapter 683 - 672: Strange Yang Xue (Part 1)

"Forget it, Captain Xu is so busy, how dare I trouble you to fight? I can go out by myself." After speaking, Li Huiru tossed her ponytail, turned her head, and walked straight out the door.

Old Xu smiled helplessly, "I’ve already told someone to fill up your car with gas."

Li Huiru did not reply, which was expected by Old Xu. However, he didn’t mind this and quickly picked up the hand-held radio to inform Wu Chao, who was on duty in the monitoring room, about Li Huiru’s departure and instructed him to keep an eye on her actions to prevent any unexpected situations.

Wang Zhongyu was meticulously inspecting the Toyota Camry, checking the condition of the car. As a semi-professional mechanic, his skills had matured greatly during this time of exercise.

Now, whenever he saw a car, he’d reflexively want to step forward to check the vehicle’s condition.

Perhaps Wang Zhongyu himself didn’t even know that in his subconscious, he’d already established a notion that cars are equivalent to the lives of Survivors, and no one would joke around with their own life, especially not Wang Zhongyu.

For example, this time, Old Xu had only asked him to fill up the car for Li Huiru, but out of habit, he gave the car a thorough inspection. Even if nothing else, his attitude alone was admirable.

As for Li Huiru, Wang Zhongyu had some understanding of her, after all, she’d lived in the villa for some time. His impression of the woman wasn’t particularly good, but not bad either.

He couldn’t help it; Li Huiru was a beauty, which was her natural advantage. No man could dislike a beautiful woman, unless he’s indifferent or has issues with his orientation.

Wang Zhongyu obviously had no issues in either area, so when Li Huiru appeared before him with her bag after bidding Xu Renjie farewell, he immediately greeted her with a friendly smile:

"Hi, Miss Li, morning! As per Old Xu’s instructions, I’ve filled your car up with gas, and I’ve checked the condition—everything’s normal, it’s just that the window..."

"Bang!" The sound of a door closing!

Li Huiru’s gaze seemed as if she hadn’t seen Wang Zhongyu, and she walked straight past him. Enthusiastic Wang Zhongyu only felt a gust of wind brush by, followed by a few strands of hair whisking across with it, then the sound of the door opening and closing.

"Miss Li, do you want me to..."

"Bang!" Another sound of a door closing!

Wang Zhongyu stood dumbfounded, staring at her get into the car and completely ignoring him as she started the vehicle.

Fortunately, as the Toyota Camry was reversing, he quickly dodged to the side, otherwise, he’d have been knocked over by the rearview mirror.

For Wang Zhongyu, nearing thirty, being played with by a young girl like this was unbearable, and his anger flared. He couldn’t help but shout at the retreating Toyota Camry:

"What the hell! Do you understand manners at all? How can you be so rude! Is someone dead at home, speeding like you’re rushing to a funeral?"

The commotion from Wang Zhongyu’s outburst quickly attracted the villa’s residents, who thought something major happened.

After Old Xu roughly inquired about the incident, he couldn’t help but feel a headache and offered Wang Zhongyu some reassurance, then called everyone back: "It’s okay, it’s okay, everyone go back inside. These are unusual times, don’t stay outside."

Wang Qiang and Tang Xiaoquan had finally completed what they called their "Ocean" mural, but due to their poor technique, many areas of paint overlapped during application, creating a visual clumping effect.

So when Old Zhao came to evaluate, he humorously described the "Ocean" mural as "Stirring Waves and Surging Tides."

Both Wang and Tang knew the artwork wasn’t great, but regardless, the original goal of covering the bloodstains was achieved.

The next task was to tidy up the floor. Laying tiles or flooring wasn’t possible given current conditions, so redoing the ground with cement seemed like a more reliable choice.

Old Zhao directed Wang Qiang and Tang Xiaoquan, instructing them to each carry three bags of yellow sand and one bag of cement, then mix with water. As the cement slurry gradually took shape into a pit-like form, he began the task of plastering the floor on his own.

With the time bomb Li Huiru gone, Old Xu continued his document work with his head buried. Feeling a bit weary, he was about to stand up and stretch his neck when he noticed a flicker of a shadow in front of him. Looking up, he saw Yang Xue’s slightly plump figure cast by the dim candlelight.

"Xiao Yang, is there something you need?" After a night busy dealing with Li Huiru, Old Xu noticed Yang Xue and realized this girl woke up early today, but upon further thought, guessed it must be related to Li Huiru.

Yet, Old Xu had no time to handle their tedious women’s quarrels, hoping she wasn’t here for that.

"Oh, Captain Xu, can I borrow your hand-held radio?" Yang Xue’s tone was shy, a demure demeanor quite unlike her usual boisterous image.

Old Xu found it hard to understand if she’d perhaps eaten something off. Tentatively, he asked, "You want to borrow the radio? May I ask whom you want to contact?"

The usage details of the base’s hand-held radios had clear regulations set by the Survivor Squad. Typically, they were allocated to necessary personnel and rarely needed for outside contact.

So Yang Xue’s odd request definitely piqued Old Xu’s suspicion.

First, Yang Xue was from the Factory. Second, Li Huiru had just left. The most important point was that both women had unusual connections with Liu Yunpeng. If Yang Xue wanted to contact the Factory using the radio, that would be problematic.

Yang Xue lowered her head, whispering so softly, "I... I... um... I want to contact Xiao Wang."

"Wang Qiang?" Old Xu’s mind was filled with the entanglements between Li Huiru, Liu Yunpeng, and Yang Xue from the Factory. Hearing her mention his good buddy’s name caught him off guard.

"Yes, Captain Xu, I want to talk to Wang Qiang because I think there might be some misunderstandings between us, and I’d like to clarify and apologize," Yang Xue’s blushing face resembled a ripe red apple.

Old Xu, now understanding her intent, saw the sincerity in Yang Xue’s demeanor and didn’t make things difficult, handing the radio to her directly, "Do you know how to use it? Here, I’ve tuned the frequency for you, just press this to talk."

"I know how to use it, Captain Xu. I’ve learned before, hehe." Yang Xue took the radio and demonstrated competently to convince Old Xu of her claim, "Captain Xu, can I take it back to my room? I’ll return it after using it."

"Well..." Old Xu thought for a moment. This call might directly affect Wang Qiang and Yang Xue’s future relationship. Weighing the situation, he ultimately decided not to have her contact Wang Qiang directly, considering it might involve their personal secrets. He had no interest in being a third wheel.
