Chapter 681 - 670: Unexpected Guest (7)
I’ve said what I can say, and I’ve done what I can do. Old Xu believes he has helped Li Huiru to the best of his ability. He can fully understand the madness she shows.
After all, if he were in her position, facing that unknown past, he might not be able to remain calm either.
"Alright, it’s still early. Take some time alone to calm down. I’ll arrange for someone to fill up your car with fuel," Old Xu gently closed the door, leaving Li Huiru alone in the room, frozen. He wasn’t worried about her committing suicide; perhaps, if that happened, it would be a happy ending for both.
After all, anyone with a bit of sense can foresee the kind of encounters she’ll face on this trip.
In a post-apocalyptic world, for Survivors with weak abilities, especially those lazy women who usually only rely on others without knowing how to contribute, sometimes death is a kind of release. Otherwise, even if they barely survive, they’re just a backup feast for Zombies.
This might still be considered good; at least being eaten by Zombies is just physical pain. But if captured by ill-intentioned Survivors, it truly becomes a fate worse than death.
Moreover, Li Huiru’s beauty is so striking that just looking at her from afar makes men want to "take care" of her well.
Aside from Li Huiru’s encounter, Old Lin didn’t know the truth; he understood other matters related to it. He knew Huiru would leave early, so when he saw Old Xu coming out alone from the reception room, he was surprised and approached to ask, "Why, does Li Huiru have other matters?"
Internally, Old Xu felt a bit guilty for making excuses to Old Lin; no matter what, the latter has been a brother who shared life and death with him for so long.
But since he had promised Li Huiru not to reveal her being humiliated to others, he had no choice but to continue the lie: "Oh, she... she, ah, Old Lin, we really are getting old. Young people’s matters are confusing. To fall in love, have some disagreements, isn’t that normal? But to take such a big risk, wandering outside, are they risking their lives?"
"Exactly, they haven’t suffered yet. She was lucky last night, arriving here; otherwise..." No need to say the rest, Old Xu knew the outcome.
"She wanted to delay her departure, saying she sneaked out this time and hadn’t thought of an excuse to return yet. So, I came out first," Old Xu finally came up with a reasonable explanation.
"Hmm, I think the security over at the Factory is really poor, allowing Li Huiru to drive out privately. Probably her on-duty men yesterday might get into trouble!" Old Lin mused.
"True, with Liu Fugui’s temperament, if he knows about this, I guess he might nine times out of ten throw those guys to feed the Zombies."
Their conversation was quiet but was clearly overheard by Yang Xue, who had an interest in eavesdropping. What was said about Li Huiru and Liu Yunpeng somewhat made her feel sour.
It’s no wonder, for anyone dumped in a relationship, they always harbor resentment towards their ex after a breakup and a lingering attachment. This is probably the feeling of valuing what cannot be obtained the most.
Thus, she always held a hostile attitude towards Li Huiru, who snatched love away from her. Unfortunately, men, once bored of you, will never have any feelings for you, no matter how much you give, even life.
Yang Xue kept experiencing blows in her attempts to win back love, and the feeling of having her dignity trampled was quite distressing.
Even today, she still thought Liu Yunpeng was blind for falling for such a bitch as Li Huiru. She believed that in terms of appearance, cultivation, and conversation, she was a hundred times better than Li Huiru.
But such thinking was just her wishful thinking. Anyone with some discernment and normal thoughts would not compare her to the latter. How could a goddess and a shrew be compared?
The Toyota Camry sedan silently parked in the middle of the road. The cold, howling wind of early morning made eerie whistling sounds through the broken glass windows.
"Good heavens, what did Li Huiru encounter on the road? The glass ended up like this?" Wang Zhongyu, accompanying Old Xu to refuel the car, exclaimed in shock at the car’s sorry state.
Old Xu saw this scene just recently, but Li Huiru did mention it last night. So psychologically, he was prepared for the broken window due to Zombies and didn’t display surprise like Wang Zhongyu.
Looks like that girl wasn’t lying. Old Xu considered silently in his mind.
"Probably hit Zombies on the road."
"No way, such fierce impact!?" Wang Zhongyu judged from the glass’s broken condition, feeling it didn’t seem to be caused by hitting Zombies along the way like Old Xu said.
Old Xu spread his hands: "Who knows how that girl drives, let it be. It’s not what we should worry about now, fill her up with gas, and it’s a proper explanation to the Factory."
"Yeah, indeed! At the villa, everyone is on edge due to those bandits. We don’t know when they might suddenly attack, so there’s really no time to worry about other things."
Wang Zhongyu swiftly filled the gas tank at the car’s tail, enduring the biting cold of winter; no one wants to stay outside a second longer than necessary. Lu Gang, having finished everything, then followed Old Xu back inside.
The two big bags didn’t match Li Huiru’s slender figure at all, visibly making it hard for her to carry them. But she stubbornly stood there with a resolute posture, "Captain Xu, I’m leaving!"
Old Xu, fully absorbed in documenting at the round table in the living room, was startled by her emotionless words, lifted his head, and upon seeing Li Huiru, instinctively checked his wristwatch. It was only half past six, much earlier than he anticipated.
Unexpectedly, the girl’s psychological adjustment ability was quite strong. But looking at the still dark sky outside, Old Xu made a symbolic gesture of concern: "Miss Li, maybe you should wait a bit more, until it’s daylight. That would be a bit safer."
"No need! Early or late, I have to leave! I don’t need to waste time here."
Old Xu took Li Huiru’s coldness as fear, so he looked at the handheld radio on the table and softly asked, "Miss Li, why don’t you contact Liu Yunpeng? Discuss and see the result, maybe you can go back."
Old Xu genuinely hoped to help Li Huiru return to the Factory this way, not only would she owe him a favor, but he wouldn’t have to bear the burden of pushing a woman into an unknown, dangerous world!
