Chapter 602 - 591: Prologue to Battle (Part 3)

"Damn! Go to hell!"

When the Bandit Leader singled him out with a curse, faced with such blatant provocation, Wang Qiang's nature wouldn't allow him to take it lying down. He immediately stood up and fired an arrow, the released arrow swiftly shot out like a dragon entering the sea.

But to expect precision from such a hurried ambush was a fantasy. Unsurprisingly, Wang Qiang's Feathered Arrow missed the mark by miles.

Seeing the arrow fly off who knows where, the Bandit Leader laughed with disdain. Then he fired two shots at Wang Qiang's window and mockingly said to his men behind him:

"See? What are you scared of, what are you hiding for? With their aim like that, even if I stood right here for them to shoot, they couldn't hit me!"

Indeed! Wang Qiang's errant shot was clear to the bandits. With such bizarre shooting accuracy, they had nothing to fear, and the bandits, invigorated, rushed out wielding their weapons, heading towards the villa's main gate.

"A good opportunity," Old Xu murmured with a smile as he saw the enemy begin their charge.

Now that you're all boldly charging forward instead of hiding, I'll give you a proper welcome.

At the right moment, Xu Renjie ordered, "Archery Team, listen up, fire! Fire hard, it's up to you now!"

A soldier trained for a thousand days for just this moment!

In an instant, members of the Archery Team hidden at several windows released their furious arrows, which tore through the air with a "whoosh" sound.

Unfortunately, the strong north wind, coupled with the enemy's heavy fire coverage, seriously interfered with Wang Qiang and the others' aim. To avoid enemy bullets, they had to hurriedly release their bowstrings after a quick glance. In such a chaotic state, it was easy to imagine the accuracy of the Archery Team members who had trained for less than a month.

Seeing the limited firepower held by those in the villa, the Bandit Leader grew even more arrogant. Originally crouched behind cover, he now boldly stepped out and swaggered up to the villa's fence, firing several shots at the chain on the iron gate.

He was undoubtedly breaking the lock, preparing to lead his men into the villa.

At this critical juncture, Hu Xiaodong finally raised his Recurve Bow.

He had been waiting for this moment. After firing his first arrow, he hadn't shot again, deliberately lulling the enemy into a false sense of security.

Sure enough, after Wang Qiang and the other rookies' inaccurate shots, the Bandit Leader completely forgot about the deadly arrow that had barely grazed his head, almost killing him.

Now, brazenly standing in front of the fence, exposing his body within Hu Xiaodong's line of sight. How could Hu Xiaodong let this rare opportunity to eliminate the enemy slip away? He sensed the direction in which the leaves in the distance were rustling, then steadily drew his bowstring, adjusting the bow slightly off-center by a few centimeters.

"Whoosh!"

The steel arrow sliced through the air with a shriek. The Bandit Leader had to be a battle-hardened man, as he instinctively sensed danger the moment Hu Xiaodong released his string, almost reflexively leaning his body against the wall by the gate. His reaction was swift, but ultimately not faster than the speed of the arrow.

Two seconds later, a scream was heard, and the Bandit Leader clutched his arm and fell to his knees.

"The enemy leader's arm has been hit, this is our chance, everyone pay attention, break them down one by one! Over!"

Tang Xiaoquan had been closely monitoring the situation on the surveillance monitors. When he saw the Bandit Leader fall to his knees, he immediately realized that this was a rare opportunity for everyone.

The saying "capture the king to catch the bandits" rings true. With the opposing leader wounded, his bandits were bound to be in disarray. As long as we take advantage of the moment when the Bandit's men tend to rescue him and press the attack, we can find an opportunity to take them down.

Once the communication ended, the Survivors began their covering fire strike, arrows, stones, anything that could be thrown or hurled was tossed from the windows.

Since the Bandit Leader was positioned at the main entrance, the villa's side didn't need to aim precisely, just to focus their attention on the main entrance.

"Bang, bang, bang!"

"Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!"

"Bang, bang, bang!"

For a moment, the outside of the villa was reminiscent of a heavy metal concert, gunfire, arrow flight, and thudding crashes resounded endlessly.

Though the bandits returned fire with their Type 92 pistols, faced with the small stones being hurled from various windows, they were driven back in disarray.

The tide was turning, the bandits were completely disoriented.

As Old Xu had said in his pre-combat briefing, once a side loses its momentum on the battlefield, it effectively declares its own defeat.

The bandits now were like headless flies, utterly disoriented by the projectiles from the villa inhabitants.

They weren't unwilling to fight back; it was just that each time they raised their guns to fire, they could never find the right position.

This was the effect of Old Xu's tactics, to keep their team moving, adopting the old guerrilla warfare tactics. He knew their weaponry couldn't match the enemy's, so taking them head-on would be costly. Thus, he used this strategy of area-targeting, catching them by surprise, which proved highly effective.

Moreover, they were fighting across three floors simultaneously, leaving the bandit group, equipped only with handguns, at a severe disadvantage, forcing them to fire randomly into the villa.

But ammunition is ultimately limited and coupled with the fact that the bandit group hadn't anticipated such fierce resistance, this was the first time since their apocalyptic spree of robberies and extortion.

So neither materially nor psychologically were they prepared, resulting in them being completely overwhelmed by the villa's fierce resistance.

With their bullets nearly expended, leaning against the cover walls, the Bandit Leader, plagued by searing arm pain, realized the situation was slipping away. Though he was reluctant, he had to adhere to the principle of "those who remain shall not worry for firewood," and called for his mindlessly shooting men to stop, cursing and ordering, "Stop firing like crazies! Do you see those bastards? Hurry up and get me up, we're retreating!"

With the leader ordering a retreat, his demoralized subordinates naturally had no objections.

They quickly helped the Bandit Leader up, used up the remaining bullets as cover, and, under the barrage, retreated to their vehicles and made a hasty getaway!

After receiving confirmation from Tang Xiaoquan, who monitored the enemy's retreat through the surveillance cameras, Old Xu finally let out a long breath, then tiredly leaned against the wall corner, raised the hand-held radio and calmly said, "The enemy has retreated! All personnel temporarily rest in place, over!" (To be continued. If you like this work, please visit Qidian (qidian.com) to vote for recommendations, monthly tickets.
