Chapter 393: Bringing Ye Ling’Er Home
Chapter 393: Bringing Ye Ling’Er Home
"Aunty Chu, are you alright? Wake up quickly."
Lin Er hurried over, holding Chu Xiaoyu and softly calling out.
If Chu Xiaoyu hadn’t opened the door first, she might already be dead.
Just then, Yang Cheng jumped directly in through the window, startling everyone with a gasp.
"Move aside."
He walked straight up to Lin Er, picked up Chu Xiaoyu, placed her on the bed, and took out his Silver Needle to prick a few acupuncture points.
A moment later, Chu Xiaoyu slowly awakened, seeing Yang Cheng in front of her, looking a bit confused.
"Xiaochen, when did you get here? What’s wrong with me?"
Her memory only went as far as chatting with Lin Er before inexplicably losing consciousness.
"It’s nothing, you just fainted suddenly, maybe you’ve been too tired lately."
With so many employees present, Yang Cheng was not convenient to say too much.
Chu Xiaoyu seemed to understand Yang Cheng’s meaning, got up slightly and said to the employees, "You can all go back to rest, I’m really sorry for waking you up so late. You can start work two hours later tomorrow morning, get some extra sleep in the dorms."
The employees were delighted to hear this and gradually returned to their rooms.
"Xiaochen, tell me what exactly happened just now?"
Chu Xiaoyu quickly grabbed Yang Cheng’s hand, asking worriedly.
"General Manager Chu, I’m sorry, I dragged you into this. Someone just tried to kill me, and you got hit with a sedative when you opened the door, causing you to faint."
Lin Er spoke first to explain, looking full of guilt.
"I can’t continue to stay here, I’ll only cause trouble for you. I’m going to pack up and return to Jiulong Mountain Villa."
She turned to pack her luggage but was grabbed by Yang Cheng’s wrist.
"No, I promised your mother to protect you, you can’t leave now."
Yang Cheng firmly believed that Ye Xixue’s poisoning was related to Murong Hai, and the Elixir Embryo within Lin Er could detoxify it, so Murong Hai had strong reasons to send someone to kill Lin Er. If she returned now, it would be like walking into the lion’s den.
"But I..."
Lin Er frowned, feeling upset.
"Miss Ye, I don’t mean to blame you. Besides, I’m not hurt, I just fainted."
Chu Xiaoyu’s voice was gentle as she held Lin Er’s hand.
"Just as we discussed before, you can move to the new factory there. The dormitory conditions are better, equipped with burglar-proof doors and nightly patrols. The assassin wouldn’t dare come again."
"The dormitory at the new factory is all ready?"
Yang Cheng asked in surprise.
"Yes! Actually, the dormitory wasn’t rebuilt, just renovated, but the factory was built entirely from scratch, so it took a long time."
When Chu Xiaoyu finished speaking, she glanced and noticed the dormitory floor was covered in broken glass, frowning slightly.
"The windows are shattered, it’s impossible to live here. Why don’t Miss Ye come stay at my home tonight, and I’ll arrange for someone to clean up the new factory dormitory first thing tomorrow morning."
"No, the assassin might still be watching me. If I go to your home, I’d be bringing trouble to you."
Lin Er was already scared enough by today’s assassination attempt and didn’t want to cause trouble for anyone else.
"Miss Ye should come home with me today. If an assassin follows, I can still deal with them."
Yang Cheng was hoping that assassin would come after them again, but since the opponent was injured, he might not take the risk. Then again, he might have accomplices, so they couldn’t leave any openings for them.
"Xiaochen, you must be careful. If it comes to it, we’ll hire a few bodyguards."
Chu Xiaoyu held his hand, feeling anxious.
"Don’t worry, that assassin is no match for me. If he hadn’t run fast earlier, I’d have beaten him black and blue."
To reassure Chu Xiaoyu, Yang Cheng playfully waved his fist.
Chu Xiaoyu laughed, turning to Lin Er, "Miss Ye, I’ll help you pack your luggage, and we’ll leave together later."
Twenty minutes later, Yang Cheng brought Lin Er back to his rented small courtyard.
"This courtyard isn’t bad! Why didn’t you bring me here before? Wouldn’t it be safer for me to stay here?"
Lin Er wandered around the courtyard, very pleased with the place.
Although not as luxurious as Jiulong Mountain Villa, it felt very warm. If she ever got married and had children, she’d want to live in such a courtyard, where it would surely be lively.
"I don’t come here every day; if you lived here alone, it would be even more dangerous. If an assassin came, there’d be nobody to help you."
Yang Cheng had thought of letting Lin Er move here, but on second thought, the factory seemed more suitable. Though, now it seems the factory isn’t safe either.
The assassin was a cultivator and had very good intel; Fang Ling only publicly revealed Lin Er’s identity, and the assassin came for her that night.
No matter where she moved, they would find out. It might be better for her to stay at the new factory dormitory, with Yang Cheng accompanying her there overnight.
"You make a good point."
Lin Er nodded and fluttered like a bird into the house.
Yang Cheng carried the luggage and pointed to a room nearby: "You can stay here tonight; the bedding inside is clean."
"What about you?"
"I’ll be in the room next to yours."
Yang Cheng placed the luggage inside the room, indicating Lin Er could rest now.
"Stay with me tonight; I was just attacked today, I’m sure I’ll have nightmares. I can’t sleep well alone."
Lin Er blinked her beautiful eyes, looking pitifully at him.
"No, just peacefully sleep next to me. My ears are sharp; any rustle, and I’ll hear it."
Yang Cheng declined quickly; he didn’t want to sleep with Lin Er. She was restless when sleeping, always tossing and turning, her little hands wandering everywhere, causing him to be overwhelmed.
Yet he couldn’t do anything to Lin Er; it was torture being so close without being able to touch.
"You’re so cold-hearted! You promised my mom to take care of me, and now you don’t care about me."
Lin Er puckered her lips, grabbing his clothes and refusing to let go.
"If I didn’t care, would I bring you home to protect you? Please, miss, don’t fuss."
Yang Cheng looked helpless, trying to push Lin Er away, but she was very persistent.
Lin Er suddenly remembered her long-lost mother, quickly asking, "Did you go to Jiulong Mountain Villa today? How’s my mom doing? Is her condition stable?"
"I checked her pulse; there’s nothing major, so you can rest assured. Now hurry and go to bed; I’ll go with you to the new factory dormitory tomorrow morning."
Yang Cheng pried her little hands away, turning to leave when he heard a sudden exclamation near his ear: "Oh! My stomach hurts so much, Yang Cheng! Check whether something went wrong with the Elixir Embryo!"
