Chapter 1245 - 1230: A Useful Tool

"Well... there is." The Prison Chief hesitated, "But it seems he still has people outside, so..."

"I’ll handle them," Song Yun said nonchalantly, waving his hand.

"Then it’s settled. I’ll have someone bring him out now. Song Yun, go upstairs and take a rest, have some tea."

With that, the Prison Chief turned around to lead the way.

"Follow closely, and you’ll learn what you can on your own. I’m letting you accompany me out of respect for your father. If you’re not sharp enough or don’t work hard, I won’t keep a burden around me," Song Yun said as he walked forward.

The Prince followed behind Song Yun, slightly bent over, and said, "Got it, Brother Song."

Song Yun didn’t say or do anything else. He walked straight into a building at the side.

In the Prison Chief’s office.

The Prison Chief brewed tea for Song Yun and said, "Song Yun, I heard you met Yu Yao a while ago?"

"Yes," Song Yun replied with a gentle smile, "I met her when I was in gZ."

"Ah, that child Yu Yao has been away for so long. I wonder when she’ll come back."

The Prison Chief’s face was filled with affection. "I spoke with her on the phone a few days ago. It seems you’ve started a charity project over there, and she’s busy with that. She’ll be back as soon as it’s done!"

"Yeah, she can’t stay there forever. She has her dreams, which is fine, but youth shouldn’t be wasted. There are too many things she cannot leave behind. Naturally, she needs to come back," Song Yun said, "What I’m doing is to make her return sooner."

"You young people are more dramatic than we were back then," the Prison Chief chuckled. "When I courted Yu Yao’s aunt, it wasn’t as thrilling. We just liked each other, proposed, and got married. But we’re all happy with how you and Yu Yao turned out. When Yu Yao returns, come visit us at home!"

"Certainly!" Song Yun nodded with a smile.

Just then, there was a knock on the office door.

"Come in!"

The Prison Chief said.

The door opened, and a prison guard escorted an inmate handcuffed with his hands behind his back.

The man looked extremely thin. At first glance, Song Yun thought he resembled Dong Ling a bit but not quite.

Several months of imprisonment had turned the once high-spirited Dong Ling into an unrecognizable figure.

Dong Ling appeared groggy; he had been awakened forcefully and didn’t know what was happening. When he saw Song Yun, Dong Ling’s eyes widened, and he struggled to break free.

"No, please!!!" Dong Ling tried to run, but the burly guard held him tightly.

"Please, let me go. I’ve lost my company, and my dad has been demoted from deputy director in the bureau. Wang Dong has moved up. I beg you. I know I was wrong, and I will reform. I promise to be a good person. Please!"

Seeing no escape, Dong Ling knelt down, his eyes filled with tears as he pleaded.

"If you knew it would come to this, why did you do those things in the first place?" Song Yun said, "Everyone must face the consequences of their actions. If you had made your move against me earlier when I had nothing, maybe you’d be standing in my place now. I believe if given the chance, you’d gladly get rid of me."

"No, absolutely not. I don’t dare imagine anything now. I just want to live, please, I’m just begging to stay alive. Even if I get a life sentence, I can accept it. Please, Song Yun, I want to live. Please spare my life," Dong Ling was truly afraid of dying, kneeling there, constantly kowtowing, his body trembling.

Song Yun turned to the Prince and said, "Now, about that person, I let you choose for yourself. If you pity him and want him to live, fine, he can live. If you want him dead, then he dies. Whatever you choose, I’ll still keep you by my side, and it won’t affect my judgment of you."

The Prince glanced at Dong Ling, who was kneeling and begging.

If... if I didn’t have a father like that, maybe I’d be the one kneeling there now!

The Prince sighed and slowly walked towards Dong Ling.

"Help me, please!" Dong Ling lay on the ground, grabbing at the Prince’s pants.

The Prince smiled, looking calmly at Dong Ling.

There was a news report in the Sunan Morning Post the next day.

An inmate, Mr. Dong at Sunan First Prison, attempted to escape during a guard shift change. He was caught, and in despair, jumped from a four-story height, resulting in death.

"I’m curious, why did you kill him?" Song Yun asked with a smile.

The Prince was driving and said, "Because Brother Song took me there, it was to have me kill him. Brother Song’s orders, I follow without needing to be told twice."

Song Yun paused for a moment, then burst into laughter.

After a while.

"Prince, oh Prince, you’ve really grown, making me see you in a new light. By the way, has your father gone to find Wuli?" Song Yun asked.

"My dad is already working under Brother Wuli, helping him with things," the Prince said with a smile.

"Oh!"

Song Yun nodded and said, "I’ll have you stay with me for a month. After that, if you’re ready, you can go help your dad."

"I just hope Brother Song will let me stay by your side a bit longer," the Prince said. "With you, I can learn more."

"Enough with the flattery, you’re much sharper now than before," Song Yun laughed. "Interesting, very interesting. It seems you’re not as inept as you used to be."

"I was incompetent before and still am, just that being crushed once made me more aware of my worth, which led to who I am now," the Prince said indifferently.

The Prince dropped Song Yun off in the neighborhood, parked the car, and left. Song Yun thoughtfully watched him depart, marveling at his rapid growth. When he first met him, he was just a spoiled rich kid, but now he’s become much more cunning and intelligent. Such a person is highly adaptable and, if used well, can be an invaluable tool.
