Chapter 381 - 383: The White-Robed Empress, Deep Affection but Shallow Fate [6/10]
"Why have you come up from the Underworld this time?" Wu Tian asked directly.
"To inform the leader of Dragon Country that Fusang’s Underworld might intervene to help them," Dongfang Jiu whimpered weakly, his voice laced with pain.
He had thought it would be an easy assignment. When Dongfang Fengyun decided to come to the surface, he had begged for a long time to be allowed to come along. He never imagined that the surface world was home to someone as ferocious as Wu Tian. If I had known earlier, why would I have ever wanted to come out? Now, I’m filled with nothing but regret.
"The Underworld? There are many of you? What exactly is the situation?" Wu Tian pressed.
"..." Dongfang Jiu hesitated. Revealing information about the Underworld without permission would make him a wanted man. If he were discovered, everyone—whether righteous or evil—would hunt him down.
"Not talking?" Wu Tian lifted his foot again, bringing it down on the man’s left arm.
CRACK!
"AHH!" Dongfang Jiu screamed like a pig being slaughtered. He writhed in agony, his body trembling and his face turning pale.
"I won’t let you die easily. If you don’t speak, I’ll make you suffer even more," Wu Tian stated flatly, looking at Dongfang Jiu’s pain-twisted face.
Dongfang Jiu’s heart trembled uncontrollably. A demon. This man is an absolute demon.
"Actually, the Earth is hollow beneath the surface. We... we live there. To achieve immortality through cultivation, our lifestyle is akin to that of the ancients. There are many paths to our Underworld. In fact, you humans have already... already discovered them..."
After speaking, he clung to a sliver of hope. "I... I’ve told you everything. Now... can you let me go?"
Wu Tian chuckled. "Look at you, neither human nor ghost. What’s the point of living?"
"No, no, no," Dongfang Jiu quickly shook his head. "It’s better to be a live dog than a dead lion! As long as... as long as you let me live, I can... I can call you Dad!"
"Pah." Disgusted by the shameless words, Wu Tian spat directly onto Dongfang Jiu’s face. The saliva stung the open wounds, making him scream again. Still, he pleaded, "Daddy... Daddy... Daddy, please don’t kill me!"
Wu Tian sighed. "Have you no shame? A warrior can be killed but not humiliated."
Looking more like a ghost than a human, Dongfang Jiu gritted his teeth. "No, no, no! I want to live! Daddy, don’t kill me! Even a tiger won’t eat its own cubs!"
Do you really think I’m your father? Wu Tian sneered with disdain and raised his foot.
"NO!" Dongfang Jiu shrieked with every ounce of strength he had.
But Wu Tian’s foot still came crashing down.
BOOM! The road shattered.
As for Dongfang Jiu, he was trampled into a pulp, meeting the same fate as his father, Dongfang Fengyun.
By now, Qin Zhengyang and Qin Yuhan had caught up.
Wu Tian walked directly toward Qin Yuhan. He extended his hand, and the Water Element in the air automatically converged, cleansing him. Only then did his hand gently caress Qin Yuhan’s somewhat cold cheek. "It’s okay now," he said softly. "It’s all over. Let’s go home."
Qin Yuhan nodded. In that moment, her beautiful eyes saw nothing else in the vast world but him. "Okay, let’s go home."
Qin Zhengyang suddenly felt like a third wheel—a giant, awkward lightbulb. He quickly bid farewell to his daughter and son-in-law. It was already dark, so it was time for everyone to head home.
A daughter married off is like water splashed from a basin. I’m reluctant to let her go. Wu Tian is outstanding, but in my eyes, no matter how excellent the pig who rooted up my precious cabbage is, he’s still a pig!
The little one, feeling useless because she couldn’t help, was engrossed in her cultivation. Somehow, though she wasn’t asleep, she found herself in what felt like a dream.
In it, she saw a breathtakingly beautiful woman dressed in white. Her allure came not just from her features but from her entire aura of stunning genius. The little one didn’t recognize her, but she felt as if the woman before her was an empress among women. She was a true Empress in White.
"Sister, Sister!" the little one cried, running toward her.
"How do you know my Wind and Cloud Overbearing Scripture?" The Empress in White glided toward her, treading on white clouds. Her clothes flowed around her, her movements light and graceful. She displayed no great techniques, yet the little one’s intuition told her this woman was incredibly powerful.
"My dad taught me," the little one answered bluntly, unafraid of anything. She feared neither heaven nor earth.
"You..."
The Empress in White’s body swayed, the movement almost imperceptible. The little one couldn’t see it with her eyes, but her intuition told her it had happened.
Could our connection be so deep, yet our destiny so shallow? The Empress’s figure began to fade, dissipating like clouds and mist.
The little one chased after her. "Sister, Sister, don’t go!"
"I do not exist in this world. It is only because you are a cultivator of the Overbearing Scripture that our minds can connect." As she faded, the Empress touched the little one’s forehead with a slender, jade-white finger. "And you should call me Auntie!"
With that, the Empress in White vanished completely.
"Ah! Don’t go!"
The little one jolted awake from her cultivation.
"Baby, what’s wrong?" Qin Yuhan had just returned and heard her cry out. Worried she’d had a nightmare, she rushed over and gathered the little one into her arms, soothing her. "Don’t be scared, Mommy is here."
The little one shook her head. "That’s not it."
"Not it?" Qin Yuhan was puzzled.
"I just saw a sister," the little one said. "She was so, so beautiful."
Qin Yuhan smiled. "More beautiful than Mommy?"
The little one glanced at Qin Yuhan, looking her up and down several times. She hesitated for a long moment before finally asking, "Mommy, do you want the truth or a lie?"
"..." Qin Yuhan froze, then quickly said, "Never mind. Don’t say it. I’ve already guessed."
"Yep! Mommy is so smart," the little one said, giving her a big thumbs-up.
Qin Yuhan certainly didn’t take that as a compliment.
Suddenly, the little one hugged her tightly, as if she would never let go.
"What’s wrong?" Qin Yuhan asked.
The little one’s face was full of grievance. "Am I useless? You were in trouble, and I couldn’t help at all."
Qin Yuhan quickly shook her head, immediately comforting her with assurances that it was already a miracle she was so powerful at such a young age.
After parking the car, Wu Tian came inside. Seeing the little one still awake so late, he knew she must have been worried about Qin Yuhan. "Little one, don’t overthink it," he said. "You’re already amazing."
But the little one seemed to recall something and said with great seriousness, "Dad, you’re the real unassuming master."
Wu Tian didn’t understand what she meant. If she was talking about his skills, she had known about them for a long time.
"I used to think you had low emotional intelligence," the little one continued, "but I never expected there’s such a beautiful big sister out there, always thinking about you. Tell me, are you just playing hard to get?"
Qin Yuhan’s eyes narrowed as she, too, turned to look at Wu Tian.
Wu Tian frowned slightly. "Baby, who are you talking about?"
