Chapter 730 - 704: Some People Are Just Too Impatient
Chapter 730 - 704: Some People Are Just Too Impatient
No wonder Qian was tempted as soon as Mr. Yu and Ma Lv were mentioned; there was a reason for this.
The Yu Family is a sacred place that everyone yearns for. Some people sincerely want to become part of a large corporation, while others value the benefits and perks that make living there blissful enough to leave people speechless.
Ma Lv belongs to the second category, valuing all the favorable policies. He is an exceptionally pragmatic person.
It’s not that he’s bad, it’s just that his environment growing up made his urge to climb higher more intense than others. With only a year left on his contract, he is actively searching for a city wife, hoping to return to a big city. But if he can establish a connection with Mr. Yu, working at the Yu Family in the future would mean a brilliant and promising future.
Qian threw out bait to Ma Lv. On one side was the girlfriend he was discussing marriage with, and on the other was Qian, who could connect him with the legendary Yu Minglang. She eagerly awaited Ma Lv’s decision.
Qian has never been a decisive person.
Although she sometimes jokes and teases herself as "heaven," she never misuses her intelligence to toy with others.
According to Yu Xiaoqiang, Qian has a sort of measurement scale similar to what psychologists use to diagnose patients. Her attitude towards others entirely depends on which line they cross with her.
While probing Ma Lv, she was actually giving him one last chance.
She wanted to know what Ma Lv would choose between career and girlfriend. Only slightly intellectual people know that riding separately is inappropriate, and men with some guts wouldn’t agree. She bets if Xiaoqiang encountered such a situation, he would rather not ride the car but take a separate one with his girlfriend instead of making such connections.
Or maybe if Ma Lv had a bit of sense, he’d suppress his motives for now, ride with Liumei, and flatter Qian later.
But some people are too impatient, too ambitious about their career, and hence easily nibble at any bait thrown their way.
"Liumei, ride in the same car with my parents and take good care of the elderly," Ma Lv said to Liumei.
Liumei silently watched him, saying nothing.
When Qian gave Liumei a lecture yesterday, her contemplation shifted from "Should I marry this person?" to "How should I break up without hurting the relationship?" Now the urge to break up was even stronger.
Fugui sensed a bit of disappointment in her eyes, feeling both pity and anger.
Why does Soft Fluffy have to be treated this way?
On the road, Liumei sat in the passenger seat while the two elders in the back kept finding topics to chat about, unaware that Fugui only noticed Liumei’s discomfort.
She was tall, and the passenger seat of this N-hand Santory wasn’t really comfortable for her.
Thus, Fugui once again felt the urge to change cars, just like when his phone battery ran out during a call with Soft Fluffy, forcing him to change phones midway.
"Liumei, you should buy fewer shoes with heels. It’s not good for women to always wear high heels," Mrs. Ma spoke.
Wear whatever she likes, what’s it to you! Fugui roared inside, tightening his grip on the steering wheel.
"Exactly, it’s inconvenient to wear heels while taking care of kids in the future," Mr. Ma chimed in.
Why does a man discuss women’s shoes, like father like son, all sissies! Sissy! Sissy! Fugui continued to roar internally.
The heart of a Ph.D. is indeed far more exciting than it seems.
Liumei simply replied, "Oh," without taking it to heart.
The Ma parents noticed their son’s lingering gaze on Liumei’s shoes, then spoke their minds.
They never planned to find a woman this tall; to them, women being taller than men wasn’t a good thing. Mrs. Ma decided that once Liumei married into the family, she would guide her on fashion, forbidding overly flashy clothes.
She wanted to criticize Liumei’s skirt as too short but suppressed the urge due to Liao Fugui’s presence.
Fugui generally doesn’t enjoy talking to strangers. He has a bit of the typical rigidity of intellectuals, uninterested in things outside his expertise.
Today was different, though; he couldn’t stand seeing others talk about Soft Fluffy in front of him, so he retaliated.
Fugui turned and asked Liumei, "What kind of car do you like?"
"Me?"
"Yeah."
"I like the Cherokee, but it’s a bit expensive. I don’t know how long I’ll have to save up to buy one."
Fugui quickly calculated a string of numbers in his head; it was indeed not cheap, but it wasn’t completely unaffordable.
"Why buy such an expensive car? That kind of money is enough to buy an apartment in the city. Just have your family gift you one costing about 100,000, buy two apartments instead which are just enough for two households," Mrs. Ma timely interjected.
Damn it, where’s the shame?! Fugui roared internally again.
"I didn’t ask you," Fugui’s words made Mrs. Ma feel awkward, remaining silent and resentfully glancing at Liumei. What kind of people were these, not giving the Ma Family any face!
"I’m just offering advice for you young people based on experience. How would youngsters manage in society without advice from elders? Young man, where do you work?"
"None of your concern."
Death by words, Mrs. Ma decided she never wanted to speak to him again, and secretly cursed Fugui, scoffing: so arrogant, short and bespectacled, old but still driving such a broken domestic car, a clear candidate for an unmarried life.
Fugui didn’t want to deal with her either. Liumei felt a bit awkward, looking apologetically at Fugui. She felt she had troubled Fugui, reaffirming her resolve to find a chance today to break up with Ma Lv. Though eager to marry, she couldn’t build a life with such an unsuitable family.
She realized Ma Family caused troubles for her sister-in-law and Fugui, agreeing more with Qian’s assertion that marriage isn’t just the union of two people but two families too.
She couldn’t be selfish and find such a family to trouble her own family; she should find another way to get married, there’s still time.
Seeing her gloomy expression, Fugui assumed she was upset, and continued finding topics to chat about, engaging Liumei in conversation again.
Mrs. Ma watched, planning to remind her son later; this daughter-in-law needs guidance, she shouldn’t have so much to say to other men.
Mrs. Ma noted the Cherokee matter in her mind; she had seen it, and it was undoubtedly good in the county. Though Liumei claimed her family were merely civil servants, they might be able to gather enough to buy a Cherokee car, but they mustn’t let her buy a car. Cars depreciate quickly; better have her buy houses, two just right for her, her husband, and daughter to live...
