Chapter 451 - 425: Turning the Tables
Chapter 451 - 425: Turning the Tables
When Qian was crying in Mr. Liu’s arms, Yu Minglang was also trying to console his boss in his own way.
After leaving the hospital, Yu Minglang drove Liu Li home.
When Liu Li arrived at his doorstep, he didn’t get out of the car immediately; instead, he looked at his father whom he hadn’t seen for a long time.
"Dad, should I just go back like this?" In truth, he wanted to ask if his father could stay with him for a while.
"You go ahead; I’ll visit your mother later."
Liu Li responded with an "oh," feeling disappointed as he watched Yu Minglang drive away.
At that moment, Yu Minglang could understand Liu Li’s feelings because his own father was also someone who dedicated most of his life to his work.
"Mr. Liu, aren’t you going to stay with your son for a bit?" Yu Minglang asked.
"Tomorrow, maybe. Just need to find somewhere to stay for a while." Mr. Liu was in a bad mood, worried about Mr. Liu but couldn’t visit him without a fight.
He hadn’t seen his son for a while, but his emotions were unstable, and he didn’t want to pass this frustration onto his son.
Men, when faced with problems, prefer to find a quiet place or have a drink with a close friend. Yu Minglang was evidently a good choice.
"Let’s go, I’ll buy you a drink." Yu Minglang drove past Liu Li, who was still standing there. He planned to discuss Liu Li’s issue with Mr. Liu over a drink later.
Yu Minglang already had a good idea in mind.
Liu Li, feeling rather down, went back home.
He felt increasingly distant from his father, even though he was his father’s son. It seemed his father had a better relationship with Lang and the others.
He was determined to become a man like his father, a man who’s upright and strong, experiencing the state his father had while working. Perhaps his father would treat him as well as he treated Minglang.
As Liu Li sat on the sofa, making a resolution, his attention was suddenly caught by something on the table.
On the coffee table, there was a brown paper bag.
It looked like Mr. Liu’s papers. Liu Li picked up the bag, intending to take it to his mother’s room, but the papers inside fell out.
As he squatted to pick them up, he was attracted by the elegant and bold handwriting.
What are the causes and symptoms of mania?
This was an academic paper taught to Mr. Liu by Qian.
Initially, Liu Li was drawn to it because of the beautiful handwriting. Upon noticing the note was from Chen Xiaoqian, he looked at it closely.
Qian’s academic paper was very professional but not difficult to understand. It wasn’t about making simple issues complicated, but rather attracting readers with novel perspectives. Liu Li actually got engrossed in it.
Qian began writing about the symptoms of mania, with a few thousand words. Liu Li read through them one by one until suddenly, he had a flash of insight.
Maybe he could do something like this too...
Mr. Liu and Yu Minglang both didn’t feel like going to a public place for drinks. Yu Minglang bought two bottles of Erguotou, took two dishes of appetizers from a restaurant, and just found a random place for them to have a drink.
Mr. Liu didn’t really share his personal life with the younger generations; he just wanted to ease his mind with some drinks.
Yu Minglang noticed the dark circles under his eyes, knowing he was quite exhausted from work. He didn’t rush into the main topic but rather chatted about unit matters and discussions on upcoming work assignments after meetings.
After chatting for a while, Mr. Liu shifted the conversation to the assessment the day after tomorrow.
"Minglang, how do those two HRs look to you?"
"So far, they seem okay. We’ll have to wait for the assessment to be sure."
The assessment is a small simulation to observe business competence and adaptability, selecting the best to enter the company.
"The shareholders’ meeting will soon be held. It sounds like they’re trying to establish an independent branch company. Your workload might increase then."
Mr. Liu hinted at it, and Yu Minglang understood it as those old people causing trouble.
Ever since Xiaoqiang joined the company, personnel began to be extensively processed, keeping those suitable and letting go those who weren’t. This iron-handed approach has already caused dissent among some shareholders and disrupted others’ interests, and now they’re attempting a counterattack.
It sounds like they want to establish a separate branch company, directly targeting Yu Minglang.
"I have an idea; I’d like to apply it to you."
"What is it?"
"It’s about this selection; I want Liu Li to participate."
"...Who?"
Mr. Liu thought he misheard.
"Liu Li."
Mr. Liu placed the small Erguotou bottle heavily on the table, his eyes wide open.
"Yu Minglang, are you playing around! This is an assessment, not a game! Liu Li isn’t in this field. Are you trying to give him special treatment because he’s my son? I will beat you, bastard! And I’ll tell your dad!"
"...Uncle, I’m an adult. Are you still tattling? Besides, my dad isn’t well and doesn’t handle company matters anymore. Can he control me?"
Yu Minglang changed the way he addressed him.
Mr. Liu felt like hitting him.
"I’ll ask Yu how he educated his child. Didn’t he always brag about his strict family upbringing? How did he raise you to be someone wanting special treatment? A father’s fault for not teaching his son!"
"Uncle, that’s not right. If you seriously look at it, you’ve been taking care of me more than my dad has. If you want to trace it back to the source, you’d be the one to find it, not anyone else."
Mr. Liu felt he’d been set up by this brat, and he angrily slapped the table. Yu Minglang quickly protected the box of peanuts, so as not to waste food—all had been slapped up.
"When have I ever taught you crooked ways? Let me tell you, our company, since the day it was established, has pledged to open its doors only to those capable. Even slightly less competent wouldn’t do, even if he’s my son? If I open this door, what would the talents who’ve gone through so much think?!"
"Actually... You’re just afraid if you get him in, my aunt will scratch your face, right?" Yu Minglang pointed right to the heart of the matter.
Mr. Liu’s face instantly turned red—this brat, so smart!
Mr. Liu didn’t wish for his son to go into business, believing Liu wasn’t suited for it.
Yu Minglang nodded repeatedly, "Yes, yes, you’re right, Uncle. You’re wise, everything you say is right. Here, blow your beard, let me see!"
With that, he carried the peanuts away, fearing he’d really get beaten if he stayed.
"I’m talking serious business; don’t joke around with me!" Mr. Liu was nearly enraged.
"I’m also talking about serious business. What you said is what I think, but what I want to do, you’re misunderstanding. I don’t want Liu Li to join our company. The rule of not hiring connections was set by me; I wouldn’t slap myself, would I?"
