Chapter 366 - 340: Hand in Hand
Chapter 366 - 340: Hand in Hand
In their past lives, Qian and Yu Minglang both achieved great success, reaching the pinnacle in their respective fields. However, their marriage was indeed like two solitary stars, as she ended up raising a child alone, and he never married. Sometimes, these "Book of Changes" and gossip can’t really be explained clearly.
When Yu Minglang, holding Qian’s hand, appeared in front of everyone with an astounding demeanor and spirited poise, the whole city fell silent.
His hand clasped hers tightly; it was just an engagement party, yet he valued it immensely. Despite his usual calmness, Qian could feel his nervousness from his slightly damp palm.
This small hand carried all of his expectations; because he valued it so much, he felt nervous.
Qian gave a faint smile. The Yu Minglang who had waited for her all his life could finally hold her hand in this lifetime.
Many present had seen Qian and Yu Minglang together before, but in today’s setting, the sight of them in matching Chinese attire walking in sync shocked many.
They were perfectly matched, whether in appearance, height, or synchronized steps. Even their composed and confident aura was so aligned that anyone could see they were meant to be a family.
Jia Xiufang watched her daughter being led in by the tall and handsome Yu Minglang. The background music played timely, and Jia Xiufang’s eyes suddenly became moist. How beautiful her daughter looked.
"Not bad, all dressed up like a model," Yu Mingxi remarked upon seeing her brother in formal attire, suddenly energized. She was talking about her brother, but aunt misheard it as referring to Qian, and scoffed.
"Built up with money. Even if you dress a village woman in her clothes, it’d be the same. Old third is regressing, look at the small family he chose for such a woman who isn’t presentable."
Yu Mingxi was originally grinning at her brother, but upon hearing the phrase "small family," her gaze sharpened, her playful demeanor vanished replaced by a serious, slightly mocking look aimed at her aunt.
"When it comes to judging people, nobody could surpass Li Zhen in your family," Yu Mingxi said softly as she looked ahead.
Aunt’s guard went up at the mention of her son’s name and she glanced cautiously at Yu Mingxi.
"What are you saying?"
"Suppose Li Zhen fancies someone who also fancies the person the old third chose, in terms of equal exchange, who is more distinguished?"
Currently, Yu Mingxi couldn’t stand the word "distinguished" and hated those words the most; she would step on anyone who dared mention them.
Aunt had evidently stepped into her minefield without knowing.
As Yu Mingxi said, despite not returning for years, she was entirely aware of all family matters big and small.
Aunt now didn’t dare mention Li Zhen to others; she thought she kept it secret well that her son’s sexual orientation was confidential. But somehow, the long absent old third seemed to know something unsaid.
"Gone for a few years, everyone has become weird, not at all as cute as when they were little," Aunt didn’t dare continue this topic anymore as Yu Minglang was leading Qian over there. Aunt turned to chat with another relative nearby.
Yu Mingxi, meanwhile, smirked, her gaze on Qian as if looking through her at someone else.
Yu Minglang, upon reaching the table, saw Yu Mingxi in her sloppy attire and twitched his lips slightly, "Alright, old third, you have nerve!"
"I’m getting engaged, and you dress like this?" Yu Minglang glared at his dragon-phoenix twin sister. Though they lacked intuitive telepathy as twins usually do, Yu Mingxi understood his straightforward eye contact naturally.
Yu Mingxi raised her hand, then put her index finger into her little nostril, provocatively picking her nose as she looked at Yu Minglang, as if to say, "I’m dressed like this. Dare to give me that look again, and I’ll use my thumb next!"
Mrs. Yu watched from the side of the stage; the volcano in her heart was about to erupt.
Their dragon-phoenix twins usually bickered upon meeting, but what sort of occasion is this today? If they start bickering publicly, they’ll be laughed at for life, and what kind of gesture was old third making? Absurd!
Qian saw this scene and gently squeezed Yu Minglang’s hand, stopping him from impulsively pulling his sister’s hand down. He decided to settle scores with this wild girl after the wedding banquet!
From the entrance to the stage, Qian’s gaze swept around, seeing those dark circles beneath the makeup that couldn’t be concealed, focusing especially on one person, feeling delighted.
Seems her continuous phone harassment these days was effective; that exhausted and drained expression deeply pleased Qian, it was the best engagement gift she could give herself.
No one can scheme against Qian without paying a price. As the host began the opening speech, Qian glanced to her side at Yu Minglang, who was also looking at the person with dark circles she just saw.
Feeling Qian’s glance, he withdrew his gaze, raised his eyebrows, "Enjoyed it?"
Qian blinked at him, realizing perhaps life with him would be more tranquil.
After exchanging a knowing look, Yu Minglang and Qian refocused, pretending that their playful exchange hadn’t happened.
Yu Minglang had mentally imagined the engagement ceremony over these last few days, picturing himself standing foolishly on stage, listening to the host’s chatter, being observed by everyone, appearing quite silly.
Yet, when the host announced him to exchange rings with Qian, he suddenly felt a surge of solemn duty, as if he finally understood the ancient vow.
"To hold your hand and grow old together," from this moment on, this beautiful woman was his. He had to do everything to make her happy. Such sacred duty made Yu Minglang nervous when exchanging rings, slipping twice before getting it right.
Mrs. Yu watched nervously from the side, worried her son’s shoulder hadn’t fully recovered. His hand trembled like Parkinson’s; would he have lasting aftermath?
When Yu Minglang finally slid the ring on, he felt a sense of relief. Qian was more focused, easily putting the ring on his finger as the host prepared to announce the next steps.
After exchanging rings, typically, they would kiss to express their bliss, but Mr. Yu had previously asserted that cuddling was indecent and against family rules, so it was changed to a peck on the cheek, just for show.
Before the host could even say it, a voice from the audience chimed in.
"A real man must kiss!"
Sitting on stage ready to speak, Mr. Yu’s face turned dark instantly. Which family’s young girl was so tactless to cheer loudly? So many elders present—what nonsense to yell!
