Chapter 362 - 336: The Engagement Banquet

Chapter 362 - 336: The Engagement Banquet

Poor Yu Minglang not only had to clean up the mess, but also had to take off Mr. Yu’s shoes and clothes. After sorting everything out, he just wanted to lie on the sofa for a bit, but then Panpan woke up. She wandered through each room on her little bare legs but couldn’t find Dong Yi, so she stood in the living room and bawled loudly.

His dad was already so drunk he was out of it, so poor little uncle Yu Minglang had no choice but to hold and coax her. Usually such a well-behaved child, but after not seeing Dong Yi, she seemed deeply hurt and couldn’t be consoled no matter what, even going as far as to kick Yu Minglang hard.

Yu Minglang had plenty of tricks to deal with bad guys, but dealing with a little kid not even three years old, he couldn’t exactly use some kind of martial arts move on his own niece. Even when she kicked him in the eye, he couldn’t cry out in pain. He just held the little rascal and went around soothing her.

His hand hadn’t fully healed yet. Although almost recovered, he still couldn’t exert much force. It took nearly all his strength with one hand to hold the struggling Panpan until she eventually fell asleep.

Just after he finished with all that, feeling utterly exhausted, Qian sent a text message over.

Instantly revitalized, he sent Qian a pitiable message.

Qian opened it and was amused by Yu Minglang.

This is what he wrote:

"Mei, just one kid is enough, raising kids is too tiring."

Seeing Dong Yi still sleeping, Qian tiptoed into the hallway and called him.

"What’s up?"

"I’m being wronged... Panpan kicked me... Those little feet aren’t big, but they sure hurt when they kick. She aimed right at my arm, Mei, I can’t even do one-handed push-ups now, I’m seriously injured."

"..." That’s all he could think about!

Qian thought incredulously, could this be the legendary stubbornness in the face of beauty?

After chatting with Yu Minglang for a while, Qian couldn’t fall back asleep. She got up, took out the SIM card, and replaced it.

This card was set up by Zheng Xu without using an ID, and without a caller ID number, no one could trace it. It just had a bit of balance, once used up, it’d be discarded, and no one could track it.

And Qian had more than 20 of these untraceable SIM cards.

Once she found out who spread negative rumors about her, she’d call one number daily. After the call, she’d change the card, leaving no trace.

This was Zheng Xu’s engagement gift to her, obtained through special connections. Though Zheng Xu half disliked her for asking, saying she was truly bothersome.

Yeah, it was quite bothersome.

Qian inserted the SIM card, called, but didn’t speak, just left the call open next to her pillow.

When the call connected, a weary-sounding woman answered.

"Will you ever stop?"

Qian made a slight sound to show her presence.

"What do you want?"

Yawning, Qian wanted nothing, just wanted to torture her.

In her dream, Dong Yi tormented Mr. Yu, giggling happily.

In the middle of the night, this sudden sound effect scared the other side, and they hurriedly hung up.

Qian removed the SIM card and tossed it into the trash.

Hmm, only 5 left.

That means there were 5 days until her and Yu Minglang’s engagement party.

She intended to torment this person until the engagement party, and on that day, she’d unveil that person’s true face.

Hmm, she couldn’t wait to see those dark eye circles.

After a bit of mischief, Qian felt quite refreshed and slept soundly until noon.

Despite Mr. Yu and Dong Yi parting on bad terms, Qian and Yu Minglang’s engagement party proceeded as planned.

Dong Yi attended at the last moment, looking a bit thinner, but stabilized emotionally with Qian’s comfort over the last few days. Mentioning Mr. Yu wouldn’t set her off anymore.

Qian knew she hadn’t fully moved on. No one gets over falling out of love in a day, and although Dong Yi only had a crush, it felt like half a lifetime had passed in her heart.

The engagement party was organized entirely by Mrs. Yu, allowing Qian to remain carefree. Besides showing up for a dress fitting, she hardly had to lift a finger.

Qian’s engagement party was held at a hotel owned by Mr. Yu in Q City.

It also happened to be Yu Minglang’s birthday that day.

Securing the girl he liked on his twenty-fifth birthday was the best gift Yu Minglang could ask for.

An argument erupted between Mr. and Mrs. Yu over organizing this engagement party.

Mrs. Yu wanted an extravagant event. Qian’s reputation had almost been tarnished, and though Qian and the youngest turned it around beautifully, Mrs. Yu felt unsatisfied and wanted to showcase Qian’s newfound fame with a grand party to wash away the previous gossip-driven grievances.

Also worried a small event might make relatives think poorly of Qian.

Mr. Yu, however, felt those nitpicking relatives could think whatever they wanted. As long as he and his wife liked their daughter-in-law, why bother inviting over annoying guests?

After all, Qian’s television appearance had impressed his old friends, showing she was extraordinary, and everyone nearby knew he had an excellent daughter-in-law.

Most relatives lived elsewhere. Who cared about their thoughts? Hosting them would just be a hassle.

The couple nearly came to blows over the disagreement.

Unable to watch any longer, Yu Minglang called Qian, explaining his parents were going crazy battling over the engagement party. Mom was about to leave home, and Dad threatened if she left, he’d eat braised pork for ten days straight to spite her.

It escalated quickly, and Yu Xiaoqiang, now of lower family status than Qian, hurriedly summoned her over.

Qian spent two hours locked in the study with Mr. and Mrs. Yu. When she emerged, both parents were content, Mrs. Yu convinced, and Mr. Yu totally satisfied, though he regretted missing out on ten days of braised pork.

With Qian’s mediation, Mrs. Yu finally compromised, as Qian supported Mr. Yu’s stance against an extravagant event. Initially resistant, Mrs. Yu reconsidered after Qian posed scenarios.

"If we invite everyone, where will they stay? Obviously, we’d need to arrange. Wouldn’t they also pressure you to find them jobs? Unable to, they’d insist on setting up my second brother with someone, right? Creating such a fuss, our family would spend the next half-month just handling guests."

Still slightly unsatisfied, Mrs. Yu was persuaded with Qian’s trump card.

"Listen, imagine each distant relative walking in with a Wang Xiaohong wrapped around them, pestering you—"

"No way!" Mrs. Yu now shuddered at the mention of Wang Xiaohong’s name.

"Let’s keep it simple."

Qian silently thanked Wang Xiaohong’s contribution to the family, drawing a cross in her mind.
