Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 32: Threatening a Childhood Friend—Where Is Your Integrity?

Chapter 32: Threatening a Childhood Friend—Where Is Your Integrity?

Qian returned home, carrying the bankbook that Yu Minglang had forcibly stuffed into her pocket. His voice seemed to still echo in her ears, and her facial expression wasn’t as tense as earlier.

But as soon as she walked through the door, seeing her mom sitting behind the counter fanning herself, and Chen Lin holding a watermelon more eagerly than usual, all her good mood turned sour.

"Qian’er, where the hell have you been? Not home all morning!" Jia Xiufang’s face still showed redness from yesterday’s fight with Chen Lin, her eyes were swollen too. She had been persuaded by Chen Lin to come back.

Chen Lin looked at Qian with some apprehension, but mostly annoyance.

It’s all because of this girl, she exposed everything. Otherwise, the household would still be peaceful, one upstairs, one downstairs, he’d be blissfully happy.

"Qian’er, come and eat some watermelon." Though internally irked by Qian, he still greeted warmly, Chen Lin’s attitude was more eager than usual.

If not for the mess he made, just by looking at his current serving and pouring tea, he would indeed seem like a model husband.

Men caught cheating always behave like this, they put on a good show to cover up their inner weakness.

Qian didn’t spare Chen Lin a glance, turned her head and asked Jia Xiufang, "Where’s Qu Xue?"

"She went back to the countryside. Our place isn’t busy lately; I can manage the shop by myself." Jia Xiufang thought of Qu Xue, still frustrated.

The husband stubbornly refused to admit anything with Qu Xue; a few red marks can’t clarify the issue. She had no choice but to send Qu Xue away.

"Why is it so hot?" Jia Xiufang now spoke to her husband not so politely, empowered by catching him, feeling like she could finally act in charge, even daring to order Chen Lin around.

"I’ll go buy a fan later; the shop’s fan has been broken for so long." Chen Lin was extremely accommodating.

Qian watched coldly, her dad pedaling off on his bike to buy an electric fan; his ingratiating face was truly repulsive.

Jia Xiufang called Qian to sit next to her, mother and daughter sat side-by-side, Jia Xiufang picked a heart of the watermelon for Qian.

"You’re a girl, running outside at night? What if something dangerous happens? That thug from Seventh Aunt’s family didn’t escape last night; what would you have done?!"

Yesterday, she was too upset from her husband entangled with that woman, lost in confusion, so she went to her mother’s house seeking help, but hearing from her husband that her daughter didn’t return until unknown hours last night, her heart skipped a beat, she hurried back to check on her daughter.

Seeing Qian safe and sound now, Jia Xiufang let out a sigh of relief, but still felt the need to nag.

"You’re worrying about me when you’d better mind your own business." Her mom sure could nag, never spoke nicely, but Qian realized it was concern for her, so she wasn’t truly annoyed.

"What business could I have? You’re just a little girl, keep out of adult matters." In Jia Xiufang’s heart, Qian was still a child.

"That woman might be gone, but you should keep an eye on your husband, more precisely, keep a lock on the family money."

"What do you mean?" Hearing this from her daughter, Jia Xiufang stopped eating.

"You don’t think he wagging his tail means he’s truly changed for good, right? A dog can’t change its penchant for filth; if the family’s money isn’t secure, trouble will arise sooner or later."

Jia Xiufang was displeased.

"He’s your father, how can you talk about him like that?"

Qian sneered coldly, unwilling to explain.

This is a woman’s servility.

Without being taught a lesson, her mom wouldn’t wise up; now to let her learn self-reliance, it’s a long way off. According to Qian’s assessment, her mother exhibited dependent tendencies, breaking her reliance on her husband was akin to detoxification.

Anyway, Qian wasn’t in a hurry; psychological treatment demands a prolonged process, taking it slow.

Jia Xiufang babbled with her daughter, chatting about trivial family matters, deliberately avoiding bringing up yesterday’s events.

Just as Qian expected, Jia Xiufang was purposefully evading, pretending those events hadn’t happened, but the crack in her heart was already there.

Chen Lin came in from outside, cursing.

"Where did you buy the fan?" Jia Xiufang asked.

"These damn merchants, jacked up the price, I didn’t bring enough money, give me another 20!" He remembered seeing it days ago, it wasn’t this expensive, but today the price had risen.

Jia Xiufang gave Chen Lin the money, returning to chat with Qian.

"Qian’er, I’ve picked out a quilt cover for you, when your dad gets back let him watch the shop, us mother and daughter will go see it. If it fits, we’ll finalize it, the wedding quilt needs to be made."

"No need, just get me a single quilt."

"What nonsense, who gives a single quilt for a wedding, nonsense! I’ve looked, silk is popular now, just a bit pricey. I’ll discuss with your dad about buying it for you! When you get married, use it carefully, don’t let others take it; got it?"

"I’m not getting married."

"What the hell?!" Jia Xiufang slammed her hand on the table, the watermelon rind was shaken up.

"Say that again, what’s up with you?"

"I’m not getting married."

Qian was about to pull out the admission letter to show her mom when Chen Lin came in cursing again.

"These heartless bastards, how can they raise the price again! I swear, it’s not even half an hour, raised the price twice, why don’t they just commit robbery!"

"Your dad, quick look at your daughter, she’s gone mad, says she’s not getting married!" Jia Xiufang complained.

Chen Lin couldn’t be bothered to listen, "Give me another 20, hurry up! If I don’t buy it soon, the price might go up again, these bastards..."

Jia Xiufang took out 50 from the drawer, seeing this, Qian stood up.

"Give me the money, I’ll go buy it."

Chen Lin was tired of running back and forth, he took out 30, unwilling to give Qian more, only handed her a round figure.

This was Qian calculating the time, knowing Ni Jianren, the idiot, was coming, she went out early, refusing to stay at home to witness the annoying scene.

Yu Minglang was already preparing to go out for dinner with old friend Hai Zhao, seeing Qian wobble over on a 26-inch women’s bike, he halted and retraced his steps.

"What’s wrong?" Hai Zhao asked.

"Nothing, let’s wait a bit." Yu Minglang glanced around the store, finally choosing an inconspicuous corner, pulling Hai Zhao to sit down, this spot was shielded by appliances, generally unseen.

"Where’s the fan?" Qian asked as she stepped inside.

Yu Minglang heard, tugging at Hai Zhao, "Lower the price on that thing you just raised."

"... Why?!" He was selling happily!

"Wet bed at age five; I think your store employees might not know this, right?" Yu Minglang said flatly.

Hai Zhao cursed under his breath, stood up, walked directly to Qian, the employees all fell silent seeing the boss step out.

"You’re buying a fan?" Hai Zhao glanced casually at Qian, but that glance couldn’t leave her.
