Chapter 145: Heart Flies Away
Chapter 145: Heart Flies Away
Yu Minglang took Qian back home, and by now it was already dark, and the streetlights were on.
As they drove out of the compound, Qian asked Yu Minglang.
"Are your brothers good to you?"
"My eldest brother has quite an age gap with my second brother and me, so he usually lets us have our way and takes care of us. As for my second brother... do you think he’s particularly cold?"
Qian nodded.
"My elder brother and second brother are opposites. My elder brother is always smiling, but he’s ruthless in his work outside, although he lets us have our way at home. My second brother looks cold but is soft-hearted. When I got into trouble as a child, he’d always cover for me. Yet, no one believed him because he was seen as the obedient child in my parents’ eyes—I even suspect that he’s so uptight he doesn’t watch or indulge in any of those things guys do. Really, he’s too good to be true."
"...And you think it’s something to be proud of that you watch and indulge?"
"Don’t talk nonsense, I don’t."
Ugh, believing you would be dumb.
Qian didn’t banter with him; she lowered her head and pondered for a while. Seeing that Yu Minglang had a good relationship with his second brother, she wondered how she should handle the situation with her second sister-in-law...
If she exposed it, all hell would break loose. She didn’t want to get involved; it was troublesome.
"I’ll take you out to play tomorrow. We still have a day off, and we haven’t gone on a date yet." Unaware of Qian’s dilemma, Yu Minglang’s simple words were filled with deep affection and longing.
Yu Minglang didn’t want to send her home at all. It had been too hard to see her, and he wished he could stick to her every second, never getting enough of her.
Qian felt a warm current in her heart.
Thinking back to how he had promptly stepped in to save the day, this guy really cared about her and valued her highly.
He wasn’t afraid of trouble to be with someone as compulsive as her, so she couldn’t avoid things too much either.
"By the way, give me the earring your second sister-in-law gave you. I’ll have it made into something else for you by my uncle," Yu Minglang suggested.
"No need, this earring might have to be returned to her in the future." If the second sister-in-law divorced, Qian would naturally exchange back the meeting gift she gave.
"Why return it? Are you looking down on me?" Yu Minglang thought that since he managed to score the earring for his girlfriend from a stingy person, there was no way it should be returned.
"You wish." Qian gave him a sidelong glance. "I don’t know how to put it; it’s just complicated."
Yu Minglang took out his phone, "Call your home and say you’ll be back a bit later."
"Why?"
"Just talk with me properly." Actually, that wasn’t the main point; the main thing was that every extra minute they spent together was valuable.
Qian called home, and as soon as Jia Xiufang answered the phone, she blew up.
"Chen Xiaoqian! What’s going on with you! Hurry up and come home!"
"I’m with Yu Minglang; everything’s fine—"
"Everything my foot! What’s going on with the child!" Jia Xiufang got a call from Uncle Four in the afternoon, saying the old lady at home was crying, claiming that Qian was pregnant...
Jia Xiufang had been worried all afternoon, unable to contact her daughter, anxiously waiting till nighttime, and then the little girl finally called.
"Pfft!" Qian laughed, almost having forgotten about this.
When Qu Xue was blocking grandma, she redirected the topic onto herself, so grandma must have thought she was having Yu Minglang’s child.
"How can you still laugh, you little brat? If you dare get pregnant while in school, I’ll break your legs!" Jia Xiufang had been crying all afternoon, and when she heard her daughter call, her rage flared up.
"The child isn’t mine; it’s Qu Xue’s, Mom. Here’s what happened this afternoon..."
After Qian briefed her on the situation, there was silence on Jia Xiufang’s end.
"She... is having your dad’s child?"
"Why are you worried? They’re divorced, forget about her. I might be a little late getting back, wait for me and we’ll talk. Go buy some chicken wings from the night market and then get me a hand-grab pancake."
After hanging up, Yu Minglang asked.
"Hungry? Didn’t eat enough at my place?"
"Grilling chicken wings takes time, and a hand-grab pancake requires queuing. Plus the travel time, she won’t have the energy to worry about other things. I have to give her something to do, otherwise, she overthinks when she’s idle."
Yu Minglang chuckled, this little girl had a head full of thoughts.
He took Qian to the square, where many people were strolling at this time. Seeing those wandering elders, Qian twitched the corner of her mouth.
"Why did you bring me here?"
"To talk about things." The place he imagined for a nighttime date was this—nice and fresh air with lights, and if he wanted to kiss, there was a small forest near the square, perfect for a sneaky moment!
Qian didn’t want to wander around like the old folks, it looked silly.
She pointed to an ice cream shop across the square.
"Let’s go there."
A few minutes later, the two found a seat by the window, ordered two cold drinks, and chatting was convenient since there weren’t many people around.
"I’ve met your second sister-in-law before, it was the day before our freshman party."
"Second brother did mention she had seen him then, and then what?"
"I saw your second sister-in-law carrying a lot of medications, including those for anxiety and... the kind that’s hard to treat."
"What do you mean by hard to treat?" Yu Minglang didn’t quite understand.
Qian mentioned a gynecological issue involving human organs, then added, "It can be transmitted... sexually."
She only revealed part of it, not expressing her suspicion that his second sister-in-law’s anxiety might be linked to sexual issues, as a professional psychologist, she wouldn’t hastily conclude without a detailed diagnosis, but these two points alone were concerning enough.
"What the hell!" Yu Minglang, hearing this, decisively stood up and stormed out, a dark look on his face.
Qian guessed he was calling his second brother.
She looked out the window, and sure enough, Yu Minglang was standing by the roadside with his phone, his expression unclear due to the streetlight, but she bet he was feeling very agitated now.
Yu Minglang often said Mr. Yu was good to him, and Qian could tell as well. Otherwise, how could Mr. Yu possibly come to the school to back her up during their training? The brothers seemed to share a deep bond.
Qian weighed her options before deciding to drop the bomb directly, provoking an immediate reaction from Yu Minglang—he wasn’t the type to hold things in.
Yu Minglang called Yu Mingyi’s office, and it was picked up after just two rings. As expected, his second brother was working late.
"Second brother, have you guys had a health check-up recently?"
"Yes."
"Any abnormalities?"
"None."
Yu Minglang was puzzled; his second brother’s health check was known to be thorough. If second brother said nothing was wrong... could it be that he always used protection?
"Do you have free time tonight?"
"Yes."
"I’ll come over in two hours, we’ll reconnect then."
"Okay." Yu Mingyi hung up the phone, lowering his eyes. Youngest brother suddenly asking this, he could somewhat guess what the youngest would come do.
Yu Minglang sent Qian home and reluctantly kissed her forehead, initially wanting to spend more time with her, but it seemed impossible today.
"Get some rest early."
Qian saw his gloomy face, knowing he was in a bad mood.
"Yu Minglang, everyone has their own destiny. You’re the younger brother, and you’ve already done what you should. His final decision is his business."
"How do you know what’s troubling me?" Yu Minglang was a bit surprised.
He was indeed upset; he felt responsibility for not saying more when his second brother talked about marriage, ending up with this situation.
Qian gently touched his serious face, "A sense of responsibility can be a double-edged sword; just manage your own affairs, and I think your second brother knows what he’s doing."
"You get some sleep." Right now, Yu Minglang’s thoughts had flown over to his second brother.
