Chapter 123: Streetwise Qian
Chapter 123: Streetwise Qian
The Korean song "Jindalai Flower" expresses the nostalgia for those who have passed away.
This song has existed for a long time, and the original version sung by Dong Yi carries that sorrowful feeling.
Since its release, it never became popular, until almost ten years later when a remix version with a wild arrangement was played by DJs in entertainment venues, and it became incredibly popular. That was a matter of a few years later, and then a few more years passed before it caught fire again with the rise of live streaming and MC rapping. Every MC had to know how to rap a few lines of it to be considered legit in the scene.
At this time, Qian was ahead by at least 15 years, playing out the rap style that would become popular 15 years later, and even the arrangement was altered early. When she opened her mouth, the entire place was shocked.
Actually, if you get Qian to seriously sing, it might not sound that great, but the lady boss knows how to play to her strengths and avoid her weaknesses. She can rap the mic!
This type of voice where she practically screams her throat out is incredibly infectious. Back in the day, when Qian was the lady boss, she would occasionally visit live streaming rooms in her free time and listen to streamers rap.
There was not a single song like "Jindalai Flower," "Gilarra," or "One Person Drunk" that she couldn’t rap. Of course, she rarely did this; she kept it low-key. When she did rap, she made it big, and if it didn’t shock everyone, it wasn’t worth opening her mouth.
Someone came to challenge her, so Qian brought out her secret weapon.
There are still discos now, but even if the DJs there can throw in a few "yo yo yo"s, they’re doing well. Qian brought over something that would be popular ten years later, and the effects were unimaginable. When she started, it was like the whole place was on fire.
That night left an unforgettable memory for many people.
No one knew why the music seemed so melancholy yet suddenly turned so exhilarating, just as no one knew where that dashing girl came from. But once she opened her mouth, a voice never seen before, explosive and overwhelming, seemed to lift the roof off the entire venue.
Qian was wearing a turtleneck sleeveless fitted gray vest paired with white casual shorts, draped with a dark striped long thin coat. The layering was rich, full of aura, very individual, highlighting a neat side. Her hair was tied into over 20 little braids, giving a slightly wild impression, especially with her unique rapping style that made people remember the name Qian.
Not to mention in the current era, even ten years later, if someone could rap the mic with such dominance at a party, the whole place would be high, let alone this crowd of unseen students.
Although the band struggled a bit to keep up with such a high-energy tune and occasionally made mistakes, it didn’t matter. Qian alone was enough to handle it.
When she hit the stage, the whole place went silent for a few seconds, and then applause and whistles rained down like a tidal wave. Qian sang while dancing, as the playful lady boss just wanted to create that captivating effect.
Shi Yu and Dong Yi danced as her partners, and in an instant, the three girls turned the whole place into the most exhilarating dance floor. At first, the students followed along, shouting and getting high, but later, when Qian, with great charisma, shouted "come together," the whole crowd rose up and joined in the dance.
To turn a welcome party into something hotter than the most popular disco, there was no one else but her.
Qian always felt that if she had enough of being the boss, she might start a live stream to rap, and perhaps she could become the number one female MC in the Celestial Empire.
The atmosphere heated up more and more, with young faces downstage filled with excitement, the whole venue was thrilled, while Lin Xuanhua looked on with a pale face.
Everyone around her, except her, stood up.
She finally understood why her people reacted the way they did yesterday.
Qian, the nickname "Our Qian," quietly spread after this welcome party. With one rap session from Qian, more than half of the male students were inquiring about what department this incredible newcomer belonged to. She really seemed amazing.
Driving the whole venue, sparking a frenzy, Qian could hear the cheers and applause from the crowd. But as the atmosphere grew more heated, her heart grew colder.
It was that kind of feeling, the more people there were, the lonelier she felt.
She could always easily achieve the effect she wanted. She could predict everyone’s reactions, and as long as she wanted to have fun, she could have a blast.
Taking advantage of a break in the dance, she looked to the side, but the little angel who partnered with her in the dance wasn’t there.
In her past life, when she played with her daughter, and they were having fun, her daughter would cling to her, wanting mom to rap one. She would rap, and Xiaowei would dance. That kid had won gold in ballroom dancing and was also great at hot dancing, her little body twisting like it was electrified.
Qian herself hadn’t expected to be standing here at this moment, looking at such a charged crowd, feeling her obsessive compulsion starting to flare up.
Shi Yu had been dancing alongside Qian. She hadn’t learned how to dance; these few moves were taught by Qian on the spot.
Just a few common dance club moves, hip sways, shoulders, arms. Once you mastered them and moved with the beat, you’d easily fool anyone. Shi Yu, afraid of messing up, kept thinking about Qian’s instructions. And unexpectedly, she ended up swinging into Qian’s arm. She quickly looked back at Qian and, seeing that she wasn’t affected, let out a sigh of relief.
Meow, almost embarrassed herself.
Shi Yu’s swing hit Qian’s bracelet, the cold jewelry brushing against Qian’s wrist, pulling her out of her compulsive state instantly.
Qian reined in her emotions, finished singing the last line. She sang so fast that most people couldn’t understand the Korean.
But Dong Yi cast a puzzled look at Qian.
"What did you sing... what was that?"
Korean and Joseon languages have similar pronunciations. Dong Yi could understand the whole thing.
Qian was using a phonetic singing method. Some pronunciations weren’t entirely accurate but could easily fool people, but that last line, Dong Yi swore, wasn’t in the lyrics.
Yet, it still sounded like it was in Korean. How strange...
"Qian, what does that last line mean?" Dong Yi asked Qian after they stepped off the stage.
Qian flipped her little braids playfully, a mischievous boldness in her eyes.
"Want to know?"
"Yes."
"Come, follow me to a place."
The program on stage continued, while offstage, Lin Xuanhua remained immersed in the shock brought by Qian’s recent rap.
She originally intended to embarrass Qian but never expected to be so completely outdone by her.
She no longer had the heart to watch whatever the upcoming performance was.
She stood up, left the venue, and as she reached the door, saw three people blocking the exit.
Upon closer inspection, wasn’t it Qian, Dong Yi, and Shi Yu?
They were still in their performance attire, the aftershocks of the show lingering as passing students looked their way.
Seeing Qian, Lin Xuanhua was reminded of the trouble Qian had caused her earlier. She kept her head down, intending to sneak past them.
But she saw Shi Yu suddenly put her leg up against the door, blocking the way!
