Chapter 798 - 776: Young Mistress
Xie Jue and Fang Chuning, being such handsome men, drew a lot of attention at the night market in Shuilan City. Due to its coastal location and harsh sunlight, the locals in Shuilan City generally have darker skin, and it’s rare for them to see such fair complexions. Xie Jue naturally has fair skin, which hasn’t darkened even after years on the battlefield, while Fang Chuning’s skin is slightly tanned but still of a normal tone, and he’s incredibly good-looking. Both adorned in elegant attire, even Xie Jue sitting in a wheelchair was quite eye-catching.
Without the Beining guard entourage following them, others didn’t realize they were part of the envoy. People speculated which noble family these handsome gentlemen belonged to, coming to experience life; they were exceedingly good-looking. The young ladies, in particular, were delighted at the sight, their hearts secretly stirred.
Xie Jue was accustomed to the amazed glances of others, and Fang Chuning paid no mind to it either. The two of them curiously explored the night market, which was livelier than the one in the Capital City, full of tourists and various snack stalls, food booths, and entertainment acts. Stalls also sold decorative items made from shells, conches, and other sea resources, including coral trees.
They admired a coral tree for a long time, a favorite among Beining Noble Ladies, and it was rare to see such high-quality specimens. After buying it, Fang Chuning ordered someone to send it to the embassy, intending to take it back to the Capital City, knowing his mother and sister would both like it.
"Are you hungry?" Fang Chuning asked.
Xie Jue’s appetite had not been great recently, but now, surrounded by an array of scents at the night market, he felt his cravings stir, "A bit hungry."
"I’ll get you something to eat."
Fang Chuning didn’t need to ask what Xie Jue liked to eat, as he knew his tastes better than anyone. However, this time he purposely chose many of Shuilan City’s local specialty snacks, including fried pastries, for Xie Jue to try, hoping he might find something he liked. Xie Jue was willing to try anything, never picky, and whenever he went out with Fang Chuning, his appetite was always good, and he never killed the mood.
When they first arrived in Ningzhou, Fang Chuning would often take him to try the various local foods, but back then, Xie Jue wasn’t used to the rough fare at the border, having been accustomed to living in comfort.
A piece of golden, crispy fried pastry entered his mouth, its oily texture notwithstanding, it was deliciously crunchy. Fang Chuning smiled and asked, "Is it tasty?"
"It’s okay."
When Xie Jue said it’s okay, it absolutely meant he loved it. Fang Chuning fed him another piece. At the night market, there were also some interesting fruit drinks, brewed from spring mulberries, not alcoholic but simply a blend of fruit juice and water, carrying a special effervescence that was quite addictive, sweet and sour. Both Xie Jue and Fang Chuning found them delightful.
He crouched in front of the wheelchair holding a fruit drink; it was slightly icy due to the ice cubes, so after Fang Chuning took a sip from the same straw Xie Jue used, he frowned and said, "It’s too cold. You’re still injured; drink less."
"You’re the one tempted, aren’t you?" Xie Jue watched as Fang Chuning almost gulped down the entire drink in one go, unable to hold back his laughter. He said he was concerned, yet ended up snatching his treat.
"It tasted better after Ting Feng drank it."
"You’re really glib." Xie Jue remained expressionless, "I’m not some little girl; stop with these tricks."
Fang Chuning chuckled lightly and teased, "This trick doesn’t work anymore? Then what’s Ting Feng using these days? Your ever-changing lady can come up with all kinds of ideas for you."
