Chapter 309 - separate them
Chapter 309 - separate them
309
~Damon’s POV
I just stood there, looking at Thorne. My mind wasn’t even processing the words he was saying. I couldn’t focus. My eyes were locked on his face, tracing every sharp line, every movement, every flicker of his eyes.
He looked... like Lisa. Too much like her. It wasn’t just a passing resemblance. It was the same eyes, the same curve of his jaw, the same sharpness in his expression when he was angry. I swallowed hard, forcing myself to breathe, forcing myself to think.
I finally shook my head slightly, trying to regain control. I had to. I couldn’t let this derail me. Not now. Not when there was so much to do. I nodded to myself and left the hall. I needed to talk to Rowan and Kael. They needed to know.
I walked straight into their chamber. The healer was bent over Rowan and Kael, cleaning their wounds carefully. They flinched slightly with each touch, but neither of them complained. I waited silently, watching the healer work, feeling the weight of what I had to say pressing on me.
When the healer finally stepped back, I cleared my throat. "Excuse me. I need to talk to them," I said firmly. "Come back later."
The healer gave me a small nod, understanding the seriousness in my tone, and left the room quietly.
Rowan and Kael shifted, sitting up slightly, their eyes wary and alert. I could see the questions already forming in their minds. I knew what they were thinking; this wasn’t going to be an easy conversation.
Rowan tilted his head, his expression serious, almost cautious. "Damon... have you seen Lisa?" His voice was low, carrying that mix of hope and worry I knew well.
I shook my head slowly. "No... not yet." I paused, trying to gather my thoughts, trying to find the right words to explain what I had just learned. My chest tightened as I spoke. "But... I just found out something. Something huge."
Both of them leaned forward, curiosity and concern written all over their faces. Kael’s eyes narrowed slightly, his jaw tightening. "What is it?" he asked, his voice calm but firm, like he was ready for anything.
I took a deep breath, letting it out slowly, feeling the weight of the truth settle in my chest. "Thorne... he and Lisa... they’re twins."
Rowan and Kael blinked at me, shock spreading across their faces. "Twins?" Rowan asked, his voice incredulous. "How is that even possible?"
Kael frowned. "Are you sure, Damon? You could be wrong."
I shook my head. "No, the resemblance... It’s too much. Way too much to be a coincidence. And everything starts making sense now."
Both of them went silent for a moment, letting it sink in. Then Kael’s eyes widened as a memory hit him. "Wait... I remember something. That night... the night Lisa escaped the prison... Thorne was at the palace, wasn’t he?"
Rowan’s jaw tightened, his eyes narrowing. "Yeah... and maybe he kept her from us. Maybe he was looking for her here, making sure we wouldn’t know." His voice was low, but I could hear the suspicion threading through every word. He leaned forward, hands resting on the edge of the bed where Kael and I sat, watching me carefully.
I shook my head slowly, holding up a hand to stop him before he could go further. "I don’t think that’s it," I said, my voice calm but firm, trying to get through to them before their imaginations went wild.
Rowan frowned, his brow furrowing. "Why not? He could have... he was angry. Maybe he didn’t want us interfering with Lisa anymore. Maybe he wanted to make sure we didn’t see her; he didn’t want us to find her."
I leaned forward, lowering my voice even more, the words carrying the weight of what I’d realized. My hands gripped the edge of the table so tightly my knuckles whitened.
"No. That’s not it. I’ve been watching him, observing how he reacted. He was furious. Not calculated, not hiding, he was furious. He wasn’t hiding her from anyone. He was demanding for his sister. He wants her back, and he’s not going to stop until he does. That’s all there is to it."
Both of them leaned back slightly, absorbing my words, the tension in the room thickening. Rowan pressed his lips into a thin line, thinking. "So... he’s not trying to keep her from us... He’s angry because she’s gone? Because he can’t find her?"
I nodded, the muscles in my jaw clenching as I thought about how close everything had been to blowing up. "Exactly. He’s not here to fight us. He’s not our enemy, not really. He’s driven by anger and desperation. That makes him dangerous. Angry, determined, and willing to do anything to get his sister back. You can’t underestimate that."
Kael rubbed his temples, letting out a slow breath, like he was trying to make sense of it all. "So... that means... Thorne, Lisa... the resemblance. Everything lines up now. That’s why he’s involved. That’s why he came after us. That explains so much."
Kael’s hands were still over his temples, his brows drawn together. "We have to plan carefully, then. He’s unpredictable. And if he finds her before we do, if he gets there first... who knows what he’ll do? We can’t underestimate him for a second."
I leaned back slightly, letting the words sink in, then spoke again, my voice calm but firm. "Look, we should be able to find her soon. I’ve given the task to all the alphas. They’ll search everywhere, and they know exactly who they’re looking for."
Rowan and Kael exchanged glances, a mix of doubt and awe written on their faces. Rowan finally spoke, shaking his head slightly. "I just... I can’t believe it. Lisa... the Lisa we’ve seen, the one who seemed like nobody... you’re saying she’s Alpha Thorne’s twin sister?"
I nodded slowly. "Yes. It’s hard to believe. I know. But the resemblance... It’s too strong to ignore."
Kael rubbed his chin, his brow furrowed. "But how... How could this happen? How did they end up separated like that? There must be a story connecting them. The reason she’s been away from him for so long."
I let out a long breath, staring at the floor for a moment. "Exactly. That’s what I thought too. There has to be a story, something that explains why they were torn apart, why she was hidden, why he’s been so desperate to find her now."
Rowan’s eyes softened slightly, a mixture of concern and understanding. "So... you mean, she wasn’t just lost by chance. There was a reason for all this? Like someone decided to separate them?"
I nodded again. "I don’t know who or why yet. We will find that out once we find her,"
