Chapter 1140 - 25: Adventure Group Combat Methods
Chapter 1140 - 25: Adventure Group Combat Methods
kilometers south of the East Guotuo Royal Capital.
Boom.
A loud noise erupted, followed by a piercing scream.
The scream came from within a large basin, surrounded by a few low mountains.
Bang, bang, bang...
The dull sound of gunshots echoed around the basin. It was the distinctive sound of sniper rifles, as seven snipers hidden around the basin and on nearby peaks rained down firepower below.
"Hold on, we can’t retreat, or we’ll all die."
"Leader, Daer is dead."
"What?"
Shouting and roaring echoed from below the basin.
Inside the basin, dozens of Contractors were besieging a humanoid creature with glowing red skin. This creature was unusually fierce. Despite being surrounded by dozens, it was not at a disadvantage and seemed ready to break through the crowd at any moment.
The one being besieged was one of the Ant King’s direct three guards, Meng Tutu Yubi. It was the highest level of Mosaic ant except for the Ant King, with genes derived entirely from various wild beasts, capable of changing form at will, and its telekinesis ability was Enhancer.
Unlike the other two direct guards, Yubi’s style was impulsive, with anger being its most prevalent emotion, which it could use to fight.
The attackers were from a Medium-Sized Adventure Group along with a dozen Lone Contractors. This Medium-Sized Adventure Group was named the Starfire Adventure Team. Their numbers were not large, but they followed an elite route. Earlier, this Adventure Group recruited members on the Derived World Contact Platform, with the clear purpose of ambushing one of the three guards, Yubi.
In the battle group, a white fireball smashed into Yubi, causing its arm to swell and wrap around its head.
The firelight hadn’t dissipated when several bullets flew in, and their combined kinetic energy pushed Yubi back a few steps. Distorted bullets were squeezed out of its body by its muscles.
"This is too tough."
A melee contractor behind Yubi seized the opportunity to rush forward, wielding a big treasure sword to chop at the back of Yubi’s head.
But Yubi had no blind spots in its vision. Several blood-red eyes suddenly appeared on its back shoulder and the back of its head, giving it a view of its rear.
Four arms grew unexpectedly from under Yubi’s ribs and whipped toward the melee contractor like fleshy whips.
Pong!
Sparks flew, and a shield blocked the contractor’s path, who backed away in fear, relieved to survive.
"Ai Tai, thank you."
The contractor referred to Ai Tai, a main tank about 1.5 meters tall. He wielded a nearly two-meter-tall tower shield, which seemed a little out of place. Despite being only 1.5 meters tall, Ai Tai was exceptionally stout, like iron, and when combined with his steel armor, he was essentially a block of iron.
The one blocking Yubi was Ai Tai, a third-tier Main Tank, who devoted all his resources to enhancing survival and defense abilities.
"You bunch of mice!"
Yubi roared in rage from the center of the crowd, charging forward. Ai Tai immediately met him head-on.
Boom!
Mud and rocks splattered behind Ai Tai’s feet. His eyes widened in anger, and he gritted his teeth, blood oozing from between his teeth.
"Leader, I can’t hold on. This bastard’s power is too strong."
Ai Tai yelled in the team channel, causing a brief silence. If Ai Tai died, everyone present would perish because the vice tank had been killed by Yubi a minute ago.
"You have to hold on, three healers are healing you, don’t tell me you can’t hold on."
The Starfire Adventure Team’s leader was a bald, muscular man who seemed to be a melee fighter but was actually of the Summoning profession. However, five minutes ago, all twelve of his summons were torn apart by Yubi, making him furious to the point of murder.
Outside of combat, every Main Tank was like a ’beloved son’ to the leader, given anything they needed. But in battle, unless the Main Tank died, retreat was never an option.
"Ai Tai, hang in there. Yubi’s Life Value is down to 40%. As soon as it drops below 20%, we can finish him."
The bald leader’s expression turned fierce. He had obviously prepared for the ambush against Yubi.
"No, leader, it’s not the healer’s issue. My arm is about to break, and the Undead Chain can’t hold much longer."
Ai Tai knew the situation. Today, either he or Yubi had to die.
The Starfire Adventure Team’s formation for besieging Yubi was well-organized. In the center was the Main Tank Ai Tai and a group of melee fighters. A gray chain extended from Ai Tai’s shield, piercing Yubi to ensure it couldn’t break out in other directions.
Yubi was not a brainless NPC monster. If it couldn’t deal with the midget before it quickly, it would break out from other directions. However, that gray chain limited its escape routes, a must-have ability for all Main Tanks. A team-oriented Main Tank might not wield a shield but had to master a similar ability.
The central position consisted of the Main Tank and melee fighters, outward to mid-range contractors like those using ninjutsu or bows. Behind them were support contractors ready to cast barriers or control abilities in critical moments.
On the outermost circle were mages, snipers, and healers. These dozens had completely surrounded Yubi.
One kilometer away on a hill, Su Xiao sat on a rock, holding binoculars.
"So that’s how Adventure Groups deal with storyline creatures. No wonder their individual combat ability is weak."
Su Xiao rarely interacted with Adventure Groups in the Derivative World, so this was his first time witnessing an Adventure Group ambushing a storyline creature.
Bubu Wang also watched the distant contractors with great interest, never having seen such a scenario. In Su Xiao’s team, the process for dealing with powerful storyline characters was as follows:
A Mu would rush in first to draw fire and apply 10 layers of frost effect on the enemy, then retreat after taking a beating.
Then, Su Xiao would step forward to duel with the big boss, while Bubu Wang would observe from the edges, ready to heal Su Xiao or distract the enemy at a critical moment.
In short, Su Xiao’s team didn’t have much in the way of tactics, nor did they need them. With just one person, one dog, and one cow, there were too many variables in battle, reducing the usefulness of strategies.
The Starfire Adventure Team was different; they had rigorous tactics. They chose advantageous terrain and allocated resources before engaging a powerful storyline creature.
"It looks like they’re about to break down. From a humanitarian standpoint, we should help."
Su Xiao tossed the binoculars to A Mu. Hearing Su Xiao’s mention of ’humanitarian,’ Bubu Wang’s face contorted with disbelief.
"Bubu, get ready."
"Woof."
Bubu Wang barked, jumping down from the small hill and quickly disappearing from Su Xiao’s sight.
A few dozen seconds later, Bubu Wang relayed a message that there was a barrier around the basin, and it couldn’t get in.
This wouldn’t do. If Bubu Wang couldn’t get in, who would grab the treasure chest? In these multi-person siege scenarios, the dropped treasure has no protection mechanisms—whoever grabs it gets it.
Su Xiao drew a fully black sniper cannon from his storage space, the formidable weapon stretching three meters, with three gemstones embedded in its handle.
