Chapter 1018 - 20: Black Eyes
Chapter 1018 - 20: Black Eyes
Within the snowfield near Snowwind Mountain.
Crunch, crunch...
A man hurriedly ran through the snow, his steps staggering, leaving two trails of footprints and a streak of blood.
One of the man’s eyes had been gouged out, the socket black and red, and his body was pierced by over a dozen black swords, all penetrating him.
"Hoo, hoo..."
The man’s breathing sounded like a broken bellows; his lungs were punctured.
With a thud, the man collapsed into the snow, and his blood quickly turned the surrounding snow red.
Crunch, crunch...
Another set of footsteps approached.
"Don’t, don’t come closer."
The man struggled to get up, but after much effort, he could only kneel on the ground.
"As a Third-tier contractor, you should have some dignity."
A woman’s voice echoed, tinted with amusement; the corners of her slender lips curled, her red lips quite alluring.
Snow fluttered, as a woman in a backless leather jacket stood in the snow, her black short hair resting on her neck, and her sparkling eyes shining bright, like a black gem. Paired with her fair skin, she exuded an eerie beauty—a true enigma.
"Spare me, please, we haven’t even met before. Why are you killing me? Give me a reason, even if it’s a conflict of interest, it would make sense. But we have no such conflict."
The man pierced by over a dozen swords knelt on the ground. He always expected he might die someday, but not like this—not without understanding why she wanted him dead.
Memories of ten minutes ago flooded the man’s mind. His adventure group was gearing up to involve itself in the Five Shadow Summit incident; although his group had only 23 members, they were all ’elite’—at least, that’s how he saw it.
In mere seven minutes, the elites in his group were all slaughtered; only he managed to escape to this place. The adversary was a woman with striking black gem-like eyes in a backless leather jacket.
"A reason?"
The black-eyed woman crouched down, her long nails pressing against the man’s forehead.
"Bark like a dog. If you do it well, I’ll let you go."
The man hesitated, realizing he was dealing with a mentally unstable contractor. After a brief pause, he tried.
"Woof~?"
"Not convincing at all."
The black-eyed woman’s nails gradually sank into the man’s forehead.
"You lunatic!"
The man suddenly burst forth, lunging at the black-eyed woman. But she didn’t move.
The man was already exhausted, collapsing into the snow. The black-eyed woman gently held his chin, her actions tender. Her index finger and thumb stretched forward, reaching for the man’s remaining eye.
"Ah!!"
After a scream, the man clutched his eye, convulsing on the ground, blood gushing between his fingers.
"Much prettier now. You asked me why earlier. Do you need a reason to kill? My former teammates, whom I entrusted with my life, were slaughtered without any reason. Killing? It doesn’t need a reason."
"You... you’re insane."
"Hmm, thanks for the compliment. Any last words?"
"You will die a miserable death."
"Hmm, thanks for the blessing. Goodbye."
The black-eyed woman’s sharp nails pierced the man’s neck, silencing him quickly.
"Almost cleaned up, what to do next? Hero saves beauty? That person seems unlikely to do something so foolish. Seduction? With my pristine body, it should be no problem. Hmm, seduction plus persuasion."
The black-eyed woman wiped clean the blood on her hands, tilted her head toward the sky. White snow drifted gently down, landing on her cheeks and melted into water.
"To my trusted teammates waiting in Heaven, I will avenge him by any means necessary. If I can become a teammate he trusts, then at his death, he can taste betrayal."
The black-eyed woman walked away. On her bare back, a red Other Shore Flower was tattooed, the fine lines exquisite, aligning perfectly with her enigmatic aura.
The black-eyed woman was an Avenger, willing to sacrifice anything for her revenge: her body, Paradise coins, equipment—none of it mattered.
...
Inside the tower, on the sixth floor.
Boom!
Following a loud explosion, Mizukage Mei Terumī emerged from the dust.
"What a handsome young man."
Mei Terumī extended a finger, wiping lava from the corner of her mouth. A large pool of lava spread out ten meters around her, with Sasuke buried beneath it, his fate unknown.
"Seems it’s going smoothly for you all as well."
Tsuchikage Onoki floated from the window into the room. Quickly, two ninjas followed; they were Tsuchikage’s guards. One was tall and somewhat stout, named Akatsuchi, a monster strength ninja skilled in Earth Jutsu. The other was a female ninja named Hei Tu, slender in appearance but undoubtedly formidable, groomed as Tsuchikage’s heir.
Under Akatsuchi’s arm was a cloth bag containing a person. Only the head was exposed, mouth sealed with a cement-like substance via Earth Jutsu. More importantly, he wore an Iwagakure headband, marred by a scratch—denoting a rogue ninja.
The person in the bag was none other than Deidara, tasked with luring and holding off the Tsuchikage. Somehow he ended up captured by Tsuchikage and his team, rather than consummating his art through self-detonation.
"Mmmmmm..."
Deidara struggled violently, implying he’d rather be killed.
"Deidara, don’t struggle. The old man is here; you won’t escape."
The female ninja Hei Tu smiled. She looked at Deidara with a complicated expression; he had been her senior.
Upon hearing Hei Tu’s words, Deidara’s struggle eased. He didn’t want to face the Tsuchikage, not out of fear of his power, but because Onoki was his mentor.
"Mmmmm~"
Deidara attempted to speak, but with his mouth sealed, Hei Tu couldn’t hear him.
Deidara intended to say, "Get me out of here quickly; it’s humiliating to be seen like this when those people arrive."
Rapid footsteps echoed; it was Gaara and the others arriving, gathering the Four Shadows in the sixth-floor meeting room of the tower.
Tsuchikage, Mizukage, Kazekage all acted, but Danzo, representing the Hokage, remained steady and unmoving.
"Where is Uchiha Sasuke?"
Gaara surveyed the surroundings, evidently a recent battleground.
"I melted him into ashes."
Mizukage Mei Terumī glanced at the cooling lava on the ground. She hadn’t fought Sasuke alone; she had assistance from her guards and the Hokage guards.
"Looks like it went smoothly then. With this, only two members of Akatsuki remain."
Gaara let out a sigh of relief.
"Where did Raikage go? With his temperament, he wouldn’t let Sasuke escape here."
Floating mid-air, Tsuchikage Onoki looked puzzled.
"Raikage... is dead."
"What!"
"How did he die?"
"Where are his guards?"
The room was shocked, Raikage’s death was no trivial matter.
"One of his guards died in battle, another critically injured, has been taken for rescue by samurai, should be okay."
Upon hearing the news about Raikage’s surviving guard, both Tsuchikage and Mizukage relaxed. If all Hidden Cloud personnel died here, that would spell disaster—no amount of explanation could clear that up.
"Who killed him? To kill Raikage is no simple feat."
Tsuchikage Onoki immediately pinpointed the critical issue.
"Akatsuki Organization, Bai Ye."
