Chapter 94
Chapter 94
We eat before leaving, me moving in shocked silence since my mind had awakened in such a fuzzy way, and even took me a few moments to realize that he had called me by that detestable word but then the moment had already passed and I was no longer in the mood to argue.
Damn him and his smooth ways, damn him for sneaking his way into my heart.
For some reason that thought at the same time made me hate him more just as much as long for him. What’s wrong with me? How can I possibly feel such conflicting emotions for someone like this? Am I sick? Ugh.
"I hate you, you little devil." I say to him on our way out, and for a moment I think he did not hear me, not reacting at all or rather, focusing on not reacting and digesting my words, oddly enough, but then he displayed his playful smirk and grabs my hand too fast for me to react, lowering my guard around him as I seemed to be doing these days, and planted a kiss on my knuckles.
"I am your little devil, my King, and I’m here to please." He smiles, looking up at me, but I narrow my eyes at his boldness, stubborn not to be swayed by his actions again even though my heart skipped a beat and my hand burned hot with his touch, and freeing my fingers I flick his forehead, hard.
"Ouch, what was that for?"
"Focus on the mission."
"Oh I am focusing, only on more than one at a time." He winks at me at that.
This time I don’t stop myself from rolling my eyes at him, but at least I knew I was a few steps from getting the satisfying experience of scaring him into flying again.
After all we would not go by foot when we had my perfect pair of wings right here, even if he insisted on it.
Before he can do anything more abusive and bold only to stall for time I change back to my owl form in a flash, and even for being a medium size griffin, not as small as a fox but not as big as a lion, I still could look towering when opening my long huge wings.
"Wow, you look so gallant with these long blue feathers at the back of your head, and those claws look sharp but I bet you were really cute when younger, just look at all this fluffiness and-"
"Up." That word again, ’cute’, triggered a past trauma that made my tongue sharp again.
"But you know, you could always go ahead and wait for me there, I’m pretty fast on my two feet and-"
"The almighty Ethan Trevil, Succeeding Disciple of the peak and leading genius of the Stunning Golden Tiger sect... is afraid of a little fly?" I crook my head innocently, but cannot help but smile a little.
"Terrified." Is my time to stare at him and digest his words, not expecting him to be this honest, thought I should, knowing him as I do, and burst out laughing moments later, high chirps escaping by beak without my consent.
"Hey, that’s not funny!" He says in a blushing red rare moment of his.
"Oh, come on, it will be just fine, you will like it."
"I rather you told me that elsewhere." He wiggles his eyebrows, hidden meaning in his words, but I do not let him distract me and say again:
"Up up, up you go." And at that I pick him with my beak and throw him on my back, where he proceeds to pull at my fur as if trying to bald me.
It is fun to have a unusual weight on my back, and perhaps I should have told him I have never given a ride to someone before, but having his burning hot body against my back felt like I was carrying a human heater around, that moved and wiggled at my back, with his legs hugging my back and...
Ok, now I’m the one distracted, focus now, focus.
I shake my head to clear my mind from the thought of having his legs warped around me and hear him squeak a protest at the sudden movement which brings a smile to my face, and as I look forward and prepare to fly up I think: should I be gentle now, or should I...
My smile widens. Two can play this game of tease.
Without warning I spread my wings and bolt into a run, feeling him pull at my fur and flatten his body against the back of my neck, surely burring his face on my thick mixed coat of fur and feathers, and once I leap up in the air I’m certain that is what he is doing, feeling his breathing tickle my neck as he avoids looking around as if that would be the death of him.
"Y-you! I will remember that!"
"You are supposed to, what`s the fun if you forget." I say, holding my laughter in but actually slowing down and steading my fly once in the air, a smooth ride from now on since I’m not that heartless, the little scare was fun enough.
Plus I would not want him doing that with me and water, so I stopped my play short and guided us in a steady rhythm.
"See? Not so bad, you can even have a look, I won’t jolt around." I say, giving a solid flap of my wings and riding the winds.
To my surprise he does not protest and actually tries to look, the weight on my back lighting up as his face goes up.
"Wow, this..." He says as I give a quick peek behind me, his eyes on the horizon at the sun and the blue clean sky being shaped by peaks and mountains.
"Pretty right?"
"Oh yeah, pretty HIGH UP HOLY SHI-" The spell of beauty is broken once his gaze goes down, and looking at how high we are up in the sky makes his heart leap enough for me to feel it on my back as he buries his face on my neck once again.
"Don’t worry, I’m not going to let you fall." I say in a serious voice when I hear his breathing quiver.
"I know, is not that, is just...is hard to explain." I do not insist, having something like this with deep pools of water myself, especially running ones, and I let the subject die out and him stabilize by not looking anywhere else anymore until the end of our small journey.
After all, we may too proud to admit it, but everyone has their fears, and I was not one to make fun of his for real, and I do my best from then on to smoothen this experience for him.
For I had a feeling this would not be his last flight with me, if this mission had any say in it.
