Chapter 1045 282: The Saint's Fall, The Unkindled Ash, Cedric's Inheritance (10K)_6
Olivia murmured softly, "Someone will walk alongside you."
...
Amidst the snow and wind, everything about Olivia was drained dry by the fully expended incubus tail.
After a long while, Kael suddenly said softly, "Alubi, can you hold on?"
"I can, Master."
"Open the Foundation World..."
"Master, the chances are very low."
"Even if there's just a slight chance... I don't like tears."
"Understood, Master, but even if successful, the next meeting will be a long time in the future."
"Hmm, in the future..."
...
In the wind and snow, Kael picked up Elanna, who was no longer polluted by alchemy, and walked towards the distance.
...
When Kael returned to his territory, it was already five days later.
Elanna seemed to have developed a persistent high fever for some reason along the way. The spells Kael used were of no avail, only allowing him to sense a terrifying curse power continually emerging within her body.
It was night.
Kael sat alone on the command platform of the Twin Mage Tower, his eyelids drooping, hiding the emotions in his eyes.
Flashes of magic light flickered, and after a moment, Aister's cold voice entered Kael's mind: "Master, are you still thinking about Lady Olivia?"
"Aister, don't use her voice to speak to me."
"I thought you would like it," Aister said softly. "Shall I format the voice source of Lady Olivia?"
The lights of the Magic Tower instantly went out, and in the darkness, only the sporadic magic circuits flickered.
A dull bell rang out, transforming the area around the mage tower's command platform into a "starry sky."
One twinkling star-like light flew to Kael's front, and with the dispersion of the starlight, a projection of a woman in Knight Clothes, with disheveled hair and drunk, appeared before Kael.
She sat on a swivel chair, fragments of phosphorescence fluttering down like snowflakes around her. Her long white hair hung loosely to the ground, and she seemed to sense someone observing her. She turned her head and gave Kael a big, cheeky smile.
"Olivia, that coward..."
Kael instinctively extended his hand but withdrew it after a moment.
"Aister" said softly, "Beautiful, isn't she?"
"Don't you want me to format her?"
"I am your other half; as you think, so do I. Haven't you known that all along?"
"I just don't like dwelling in the past; it's a habit of mine," Kael said quietly, rising to the isolation window of the control deck.
The starry sky tonight over Lancaster was beautiful, and the moonlight was like water.
After a long time.
"Forget it, just like this."
Kael clapped his hands, and the command imbued with his will extinguished the myriad of lights and shadows.
The slight fluctuations in his eyes gradually smoothed out.
It was ultimately just an illusion crafted by "Aister," a reminiscence left behind by magical imaging technology, fading over time, yet Kael's gaze continued to look forward.
"Aister, how's the investigation going with the Steel Eagle Family?"
After a long silence, "Aister" said, "According to the information gathered, it doesn't quite align with your initial judgment. Do you need me to have Mouse-eye investigate further?"
"When did they acquire such abilities?"
"It's probably a bit troublesome, considering they are the Steel Eagle Family."
"So it means they can manage?"
"If you don't mind lifting the Silence Plan."
Kael's eye twitched slightly and said faintly, "Then forget it, let's go with the royal court's way. Use others' strength when necessary."
"Aister" chuckled, "Give me 10 minutes."
Soon after, a voice announcing "Collection complete" came from all directions, and the magic lights around the command platform flickered twice:
"Investigation concluded. According to the situation gathered by the two Mage Academies of the royal court, a century ago, the Steel Eagle Family also had a legitimate heir participating in the royal court's Dungeon campaign and directly died within the Dungeon. The time roughly coincides with Steel Eagle Family's strategic shift.
The order agreeing for Steel Eagle Family to join Olivia's Sword Saint squad came from... haha, Steel Alliance Administrator, Caesar Cedric.
The person who absolved the Steel Eagle Family's remaining members of rebellion was also the Administrator, though he required the Steel Eagle's descendants to immediately head to the front lines, especially Imre Grantham, as the new Clan Leader he had to obey commands and fight until peace was achieved."
"I don't like Caesar," Kael shrugged. "If I were a parent, I would unhesitatingly protect my children rather than prioritize the Federation."
"But he is Lady Olivia's father," Aister sighed. "But in his heart, before being Olivia's father, he was first the Federation's Administrator.
Pardon me, but if I were you, I'd set aside prejudices and hold onto our main pillar in the Federation."
"All in all, at least we're still within the Federation, aren't we?" he said leisurely.
Aister remained silent for a while, "The Administrator believes Imre is trustworthy."
"Oh? Are you sure?"
"That's the Administrator's judgment. Based on Olivia's remaining sparks of thought, the Administrator is very cautious in this respect."
"He has been wrong before, for instance... did he know Olivia would face death?" Kael said softly.
"... You and Lady Elanna survived."
"Yes, the two of us survived." Kael leaned back in his chair, his tone very calm.
"Aister" sighed silently, "You seem somewhat sad?"
"No, I'm just torn over some things."
Kael retrieved a bottle of wine from the command room's cabinet; slicing with his palm, the bottle neck revealed a smooth cut.
He poured himself a glass of wine and then said, "It's ridiculous; a speck of dust from an era falls on an individual's head, it becomes a mountain, just so happens to be called war.
Not everyone is the Sun Monkey, even the Monkey needed a bald monk's help to tear off his seal, only to quickly don a gold headband."
"... Sorry, Master, I don't quite understand."
"It's alright. I understand, and that's what matters. However, it's not important; that Caesar is clearly not a qualified father, but he's a qualified leader, isn't he?"
"Aister" quivered the roots penetrating the base structure, dropping to the command room, and murmured, "Indeed, he's a stubborn old-fashioned patriarch. If he were a family head of a noble faction, he'd undoubtedly be one of the greatest rogues of the era.
Tyrannical, autocratic, partial yet rule-abiding, not giving other noble factions a chance to act, unluckily bumping into such a person is wretched for ordinary folk."
He swirled the wine in his glass and downed it in one gulp. "But he's the Federation's Administrator, isn't he?"
"Aister" smiled, "Yes, so he is a tyrant, a decisive politician, the ruler of the Blessed Alliance's people, and the Guardian of the rules."
