Red Monster

Chapter 53: Another Attack?

Chapter 53: Another Attack?

Darla was asleep when he returned. For some reason, he was relieved that she was asleep. This made him wonder whether he was a goblin or not.

If it were the other goblin, they would not have such complicated thinking as he did. They would force their way to Darla, just like how the kids of his generation attempted to.

There was an attempt on Darla, not just once, but twice. At first, he just slapped them in the wrist, a light beating. The second time, they brought more people, and he beat the shit hell out of them.

A few of them had their bones broken, and a few of them were still limping to this day. Only after such a beating that no one dared to approach Darla anymore.

He didn’t think that much in the past. He convinced himself that he was just born different, but that belief started to waver. Not only did he look different, but he also thought differently. He was more calculative, more curious, and not really relying on his instinct.

Just like how he suppressed his desire right now instead of following his impulse. Thinking about what Darla might feel toward him and so on.

If it were the other goblins, they would not hesitate to force themselves on her. If later she refused to teach the human language, they would just beat them until they taught them. He was completely different in that regard.

’Then what am I?’

That was what was in his mind as he fell asleep.

The following day was just another routine for him. He checked the goblin he assigned to Darla. She now had goblins helping her to tend the farm, expanding the farm to enrich the source of food.

Since he was in charge of food, he took it to another level after hearing about farms from Darla. The potato, the other stuff in his food, came from this farm. So it made sense to assign the goblin who could not hunt to help her.

Not just the farm, she also had three goblins assisting her to cook. Her life as a slave had gotten much better since she was assigned to Red.

She didn’t understand the goblin’s language. To her, their languages were just like a random, weird noise. The only way to communicate with them was through gestures until she met Red.

As usual, Red left after finishing the food made by Darla. She mentioned bringing more fish, and he liked the fish, so he didn’t mind visiting the fish after getting Rabbon and Dire Lupus, which had become the main diet of the village.

Red carried three shorter spears and a blade on his waist. He recovered the slingshot, but he didn’t use it anymore. He still had it in his house, but throwing the spears was more efficient, even though it required a bigger movement.

The spear was more deadly, and with his current strength, he didn’t need to be sneaky around anymore. In an hour, he returned with thirteen rabbon.

He departed to hunt Dire Lupus, but he only managed to bring six Dire Lupus after an hour. It was harder to find the Dire Lupus now. The death of the Dire Wolf King might have an effect on them, but he was unsure.

After securing his daily quota, he left for the pond. He usually looked for a stronger Dire Lupus, going further from the village. However, he wanted to secure his dinner first before leaving for something uncertain.

Red would take his time to explore a new area, being extra careful. It would take most of his time in the day if he went to explore a new area. That was why he wanted to secure his dinner first.

Having traveled back and forth a few times, he managed to cut the trip time to an hour. He spent around an hour and a half before returning with a quiet haul.

Red managed to kill level eight and level nine Crimson Scales Biter and brought back nine level five and level six Crimson Scales Biter. It was a good haul considering not many monsters were above level seven near the village.

In fact, he realized that he must go further to find a higher-level monster. He came to such a realization around five days ago. However, there was this fear of encountering a monster like the Dire Wolf King. Especially after the recent incident, he realized that monsters like the Dire Wolf King were lurking in the jungle.

His mind was filled with uncertain futures as he traveled back to the village. He took his time, following the path. The path was considered safe, and monsters rarely attacked him when he was following the road.

Then he noticed a figure approaching from the village direction. After getting a clear look, he recognized the figure. It was Tob, the one who ran away when the village was under attack.

Tob returned to the village, but no one suspected him of anything. Later on, he came to him and begged not to report him to the Matron or the Chief. The goblin, well aware that he would be executed, found he was running away.

Red didn’t have the intention to report it. He didn’t really care what happened to Tob either, so he would not say anything unless he was asked. If he were interrogated, then he had no reason to protect Tob.

Tob didn’t believe and begged that he would do anything.

Since it turned out like this, he asked Tob to be his eyes and ears in the village. He wanted to know the goblins who had malice toward him, so he could be prepared. Since then, Tob became his man and would come to him when something happened.

Just like how the other kids tried to take Darla. Tob came to him and snitched on them.

Red thought it might be related to Darla again, so he rushed ahead, "Tell me what happened on the way back!"

Tob, who ran out of breath, could not refuse and just nodded.

Red was relieved that it had nothing to do with Darla, but it was something more dangerous. It was Kobold, entering their territory. Not just that, they killed three hunters, and two returned wounded.

This issue fell on the Head of Guard. The current Head of Guard was Red. The Matron tried to summon him, but everyone knew that Red was not at the village at this time. So Tob was giving him a heads-up.

"I see... You stay here. Don’t let the others see us!"

Only then did Tob stop running and lie down next to the tree to catch his breath.
