Chapter 872: We’re going to meet Jesus!
Chapter 872: We’re going to meet Jesus!“Are you sure this is the right way to aim…?”
On the rooftop of the two-story house, the policewoman clutched her heavy sniper rifle nervously. Even with Fang Mo’s earlier pointers, she still felt uncertain. In fact, thanks to him, her concentration had been broken—by now, the fleeing enemy was even farther away, making a successful shot less likely.
“If you were still human, it’d be a problem,”
came Alucard’s low voice. “But you’re not human anymore, so you’ll be fine.”
“Exactly, girl,”
Fang Mo echoed cheerfully. “You’ve given up your humanity already.”
“Not human…”
Something clicked for the policewoman then. It was as if her blood awakened; once she realized that fact, her sapphire eyes instantly turned a deep crimson, pupils thinning into slits. Her senses were skyrocketing.
Suddenly, the night around her lit up like day. Everything was crystal clear—even a leaf’s veins, hundreds of meters away, stood out in perfect detail. Guided by pure instinct, she squeezed the trigger. With a thunderous crack, the massive round roared forward in a blink, nailing the fleeing female vampire dead-on.
The bullet tore through her back, instantly shredding flesh and muscle before obliterating her spine. In one brutal moment, it pulped her heart, lungs, and ribs in a bloody whirlwind. She had been running—right up until the second her chest exploded into a blossom of gore. Chunks of bone, shredded meat, and fragments of her clothing flew everywhere as her body ragdolled across the ground, rolling for several meters.
The vampire woman tried desperately to crawl. But with her heart destroyed—her source of power—her strength rapidly drained away.
“H-How… impossible…”
Her face twisted with fear and frustration. Just hours earlier, she’d been butchering innocents and guzzling their blood. Now she’d ended up like this in under half a day? She couldn’t accept it.
Before she could even finish that thought, a second barrage of thunderous gunshots cracked through the air from afar.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Bullets carrying tremendous force tore into her skull, spine, and legs, turning her into little more than a mangled heap of flesh.
“Nice job, Police Girl,”
Alucard said from atop the house, a satisfied smile on his face.
“Yeah, that’s how you do it!”
Fang Mo chimed in approvingly. “In fact, that’s the only way.”
“It’s… it’s over…?”
Hearing their words, the police officer seemed dazed. She stared at the massive sniper in her hands. “It’s such a heavy weapon, yet I barely felt any recoil. It was all muscle memory—my vision was so strange. What… what’s happening to my body?” RΑΝօꞖƐṦ
“This is just the beginning,”
Alucard said with a grin. “It’s the starting point of your very long life as a vampire.”
“I…”
She looked conflicted, still struggling to accept her change.
But at that moment, a shout came from below.
“All done yet?”
Integra stuck her head out of the car window. “We’ve got a new situation… if you’re finished, hurry down here!”
“Eh—?”
The policewoman reacted instinctively: “Uh—yes, ma’am!”
“All right, let’s go,”
Alucard said as he hopped down from the roof. “Looks like we won’t be getting any sleep tonight.”
“I don’t mind,”
Fang Mo remarked lazily as he retracted his giant bow and followed.
With a small jolt of surprise, the policewoman jumped down as well, landing firmly on her feet. She stared up at the roof, a good few meters high, with a complicated expression—clearly, she was no ordinary human anymore.
Still, she quickly joined the group, and they all piled back into the car. The instant they were in, Integra stomped on the gas. The engine roared as she spoke in a grave tone:
“Ireland’s got trouble, and it looks even worse. A vampire there’s trying to create an army of ghouls. Their local forces are about to be overrun…”
“Ghouls?”
The policewoman froze. “Isn’t that—”
“Exactly. What happened in Cheddar Village.”
Integra kept her eyes on the road. “You were there; you know how bad that got. Now imagine it happening in a city instead of some remote village. If those ghouls spread, we’re screwed.”
“T-Then we need to stop it immediately!”
the officer said, voice taut.
“I’ve already called for a helicopter.”
Integra steadied one hand on the wheel while taking a heavy drag from her cigarette. “We’ll switch over at a spot a few kilometers ahead. Then we’ll fly straight in…”
“Oh, a helicopter, huh?”
Fang Mo perked up. “Time for those vamp scum to witness my martial prowess!”
“…What crazy plan do you have now?”
Integra grumbled, throwing him a weary look. But with no time to argue, she could only mumble a halfhearted complaint and focus on driving.
The rest of the trip was uneventful. Soon enough, they transferred to a military chopper and rushed to the scene. Turned out the trouble spot was an old manor. Thanks to a quick response, the vampire threat was contained inside. But the local police couldn’t break through. Their first SWAT team had gone in and promptly got turned into ghouls, so the standoff continued—a waiting game neither side was eager to break.
“That’s where things stand,”
said the police captain on-site, explaining the situation to Integra. “We can’t get past them, so it’s up to you guys now.”
“Oh, that’s easy,”
Fang Mo said, patting his chest. “Give me a few minutes, and I’ll have this sorted out.”
“Huh? That fast?”
The captain blinked in surprise. He didn’t know the details, so he just nodded politely. “Well… if you can, please do.”
“Sure thing.”
Fang Mo returned the nod, then turned toward the manor.
“Wait just a second,”
Integra called out. For some reason, she had a bad feeling. “What exactly is your plan?”
“Fire Release,”
Fang Mo said, ignoring her. He inhaled deeply. “Majestic Destr—”
“STOP RIGHT THERE!”
Integra’s face darkened as she yelled at the top of her lungs. “Alucard! Police Girl! Stop him!”
“Me?!”
The policewoman flinched but hurried over anyway, grabbing Fang Mo from behind in an attempt to restrain him. Alucard did the same, slapping a hand over Fang Mo’s mouth.
“What the hell, guys?”
Fang Mo knocked Alucard’s hand away irritably. “Aren’t we here to kill the vampire?”
“Sure, but that’s just a bottom-tier freak. No need for drastic measures,”
Alucard said with a grin. “The house itself hasn’t done anything wrong. People worked hard to build it—would be a shame to burn it down.”
“Exactly,”
the policewoman chimed in. “Please, Mr. Two-Headed Ogre, calm down!”
“Maybe you think leaving the house is a kindness, but I call it efficient,”
Fang Mo shot back, shrugging. “And by the way… stop calling me Two-Headed Ogre.”
“Huh? But Miss Integra told me that’s your name…”
The policewoman trailed off in confusion.
“Let me think up a new alias…”
Fang Mo waved dismissively. Between everything else, he wasn’t in the mood to re-explain it to her. “Anyway, you folks want to handle the vampire? Then get on with it.”
“R-Right,”
the policewoman said, finally letting go of him.
“Good grief…”
Integra sighed. She had no idea why this guy was always so problematic, especially with so many cops watching. It was flat-out embarrassing.
With that minor fiasco settled, Alucard and the policewoman made their way into the old manor. Inside, a swarm of ghouls had apparently been gathered by the vampire, but they hadn’t spread beyond the property, so it wasn’t too dire yet.
Against that many ghouls, Alucard’s gun was a one-shot, multi-kill affair. By contrast, the policewoman was struggling—memories from that village still haunted her. She couldn’t bring herself to pull the trigger right away.
“They were human once… right?”
She stepped back, voice trembling. “If we kill the vampire, can’t they… turn back?”
“No.”
Alucard dashed her hope with a swift reply. “Whether they’re turned into vampires or ghouls, there’s no reversing it. Police Girl, if you’re scared, just think of them as puppets. Make it easier to pull that trigger.”
“Huh, well, I guess they could be turned back, but…”
Fang Mo rubbed his chin thoughtfully, then shrugged. “Nah, never mind. Alucard’s right. Just take them out, Police Girl.”
“Puppets… puppets…”
Seras kept muttering to herself, working up the nerve. Finally, she squeezed the trigger. Thanks to her powerful weapon, clearing out the ghouls was surprisingly quick. Soon enough, they’d taken down the entire horde, including the lead vampire, giving Seras a measure of relief.
“Whew…”
But right at that moment, the nearby window shattered. Out of nowhere, a flurry of flying pages whirled into the room, nailing themselves to the walls. Instantly, bright golden light blazed forth.
“Wha—?”
Seras, seeing such a strange phenomenon for the first time, froze.
Whoosh!
A split-second later, a longsword shot out of nowhere, piercing her from behind at the base of her neck. The gleaming blade sliced through her throat and tongue and jutted out from her mouth. And it didn’t stop there. Within moments, more than a dozen swords ripped through the air, stabbing her one after another until she resembled a porcupine, run through from every angle.
“...Eh?!”
Alucard’s expression grew dark at the sight.
“Consecrated longswords…”
He narrowed his eyes, noticing the golden inscriptions on the hilts. “And that formation just now… The Church, is it?”
Right on cue, heavy footsteps echoed from around the corner. A tall, imposing figure emerged into the moonlit hallway. He wore a blue-white overcoat, with a priest’s vestments beneath, a crucifix hanging at his chest. The light from behind obscured his face, revealing only a faint outline of round glasses reflecting a cold glow.
“We act as agents of God, enforcers of His divine punishment on earth!” the newcomer declared, voice tinged with frenzy. “Our mission is to wipe out all fools who dare defy the Lord—down to the last scrap of flesh! Aaaaamen!!”
With a mad snarl, he raised two longswords, one upright and the other inverted, crossing them in a rough approximation of a crucifix. His murderous intent radiated plainly.
“So it’s the Church, then.”
Alucard’s grin gleamed with savage excitement. “Vatican Section XIII… Iscariot. Didn’t expect to see you here.”
“So you’re Hellsing’s pet vampire?”
the tall priest sneered dangerously. “Alucard, was it? A bloodsucker serving humans—don’t get cocky. I’ll send you back to dust, you blasphemous abomination!”
“Ugh… it hurts…”
Just then, a weak groan came from the floor—unbelievably, the policewoman wasn’t dead despite being impaled by so many swords. She tried in vain to stand, but couldn’t. Finally, she managed to raise her head.
“Is that… a priest?”
Her vision blurred. “But… there are two priests…?”
“Two?”
Alucard blinked and glanced around. Sure enough, Fang Mo was now standing next to Seras, wearing a flowing white robe and holding some strange metallic implement. And, for some bizarre reason, there were two holes in his hands.
“???”
Even Alucard looked momentarily dumbfounded.
“Police Girl,”
Fang Mo said with a serene smile, ignoring everyone else’s shock. “Call Integra up here. We’re about to meet God…”
“…”
The tall priest on the other side finally noticed Fang Mo as well, and he hadn’t expected to see such a brazen, sacrilegious display. For a moment, he was speechless.
“…I’ve changed my mind,”
the priest muttered after a beat of silence, lifting his swords yet again. “Forget the vampire for now—you are going down first, you insolent bastard.”
