Reborn with My Genius Husband

Chapter 191: Since He’s a Family Member, the Points Go to You

Chapter 191: Since He’s a Family Member, the Points Go to You

Joan Sawyer understood what she meant—that she was worried Wyatt Winslow would be lonely. She patted her shoulder, gratified. "Good. Our Holly is all grown up now, so thoughtful of others."

She then asked, "Is Miles treating you well?"

Holly Winslow nodded without hesitation. "Grandma, he’s very good to me."

Joan Sawyer was relieved. She said lovingly, "That’s good. If you’re ever wronged, don’t keep it to yourself. Grandma and Grandpa will stand up for you."

"I know, Grandma." Holly was so touched she gave her a kiss on the cheek, then said coquettishly, "Grandma, you’re the best."

Back in the county town, she packed her things. There wasn’t much luggage, actually—mostly just a lot of snacks that Wyatt Winslow had bought. Holly couldn’t possibly eat them all, but she took them anyway.

She knew that if she left them at home, he wouldn’t eat them either.

After buckling her seatbelt, Holly noticed her father wasn’t starting the car. "Dad, what’s wrong?" she asked, puzzled.

"Tell him to come with us," Wyatt said in a low voice.

’That was Wyatt for you—always so unexpressive.’ Holly beamed and said, "Dad, he left yesterday. He’s the one who bought all those supplements at home. Dad, you have to remember to take them, okay?"

Wyatt grunted in acknowledgment and then started the car.

They were both quiet on the drive, but it was a comfortable silence. Holly put on her favorite music and hummed along from time to time.

Around five or six in the afternoon, the car stopped at the school gate. Just as Holly was about to unbuckle her seatbelt, she suddenly heard Wyatt say, "Holly."

Holly looked up at him. His stern face was tinged with reluctance to see her go. She felt a pang of sadness and reached out to hug him. "Dad, I’ll be back for the holidays."

’She hoped Wyatt would find a partner, or at least someone to be there for him.’

Wyatt’s gaze fell. "Okay."

He paused, then pressed his lips together before adding, "Holly, I’m not against you two dating, but... protect yourself."

’He’d said before that he wouldn’t interfere once she got to high school, but that was a lie. He was an adult; he’d been through certain things and didn’t want his child to make the same mistakes he did.’

’He thought she would at least be a little impatient hearing him say this, but she wasn’t at all. Instead, her eyes were a little red.’

’He was a bit lost, unsure of what to say.’

’Holly, I don’t mean anything by it. I’m just afraid you’ll go down the wrong path.’

"Dad, from now on, you have to keep a closer eye on me. If I do something wrong, you have to tell me. Otherwise, I could easily lose my way."

Seeing his flustered and helpless expression, Holly felt her eyes sting.

’If it hadn’t been for Wyatt in her past life, she would have gone down the wrong path back in high school. There was a time she didn’t want to study anymore, and it was Wyatt who had "forced" her to.’

’At the time, she felt that since Yvonne Lewis had left, he didn’t love her anymore either, which made her even more rebellious. Looking back now, she realized Wyatt had put so much effort into raising her.’

’Because he never said anything, she never thought about it, and so much of it went unnoticed.’

Hearing her say this, Wyatt was stunned for a few seconds. He pressed his lips together and said with firm conviction, "You won’t."

’As long as Dad’s here, I won’t let you go down the wrong path.’

...

The first day of university classes began with a large lecture combining three smaller sections.

As it happened, Mortimer didn’t have a class during this period, so he naturally took the opportunity to openly accompany Holly to her lecture, in his capacity as her boyfriend.

The two of them sat in the middle. The lecture hall was packed for the first class, and other students kept glancing in their direction.

Neither Holly nor Mortimer paid them any mind. They were busy writing their names in their textbooks. After Holly wrote hers, that rascal Mortimer took the pen and wrote his name too.

After he finished writing, he looked regretful. "If only it were red."

Holly: "..."

The lecturer was a female professor named Annelise, around forty years old. She wore silver-rimmed glasses, and her slightly curly hair was held in place with a clip at the nape of her neck. Dressed in a pale cyan dress, she had an intellectual air about her.

After a brief self-introduction, Annelise scanned the packed lecture hall. "Since it’s the first day, I won’t take attendance. I hope to see all of you here for the next class."

"First, let’s go over the rules for my course. I don’t give out pity points, and I show no mercy to those who fail. There are participation points, but they aren’t easy to get."

"If you don’t want to fail, pay attention."

University professors don’t manage you like high school teachers. They just do their best to teach the material. Whether you’re sleeping or playing on your phone, they’ll completely turn a blind eye.

Halfway through the ninety-minute lecture, people had already started playing on their phones.

The guy next to Holly was playing a game, occasionally letting out a shout or two. She glanced over; his skills were so bad she couldn’t even bear to watch.

Midway through her lecture, Annelise decided to call on some students to solve a problem on the board. She picked up the class roster, then put it back down, deciding to just choose two people at random. She scanned the room and said, "The fifth and sixth girls from the left in the sixth row, please come up."

Holly counted the seats next to her. "..."

She was the fifth.

Then she looked at Mortimer beside her. Ahem. He was the sixth.

’It wasn’t that she was afraid he couldn’t do the problem; she was afraid the professor would find out he wasn’t actually in this class.’

Mortimer stood up calmly, and the two of them walked up to the front, one after the other, under the gaze of the entire class.

Mortimer handed a marker to Holly before starting on the problem himself.

They had both been paying attention, and since it was still early in the course, the problem wasn’t difficult. They both solved it.

Their answers matched.

’This showed they had been listening attentively.’

Annelise nodded in satisfaction. She then took out the roster and a pen. "What are your names? One point for each of you."

The whole class instantly burst into laughter, all of them ready for a good show.

Holly glanced at Mortimer. "..."

Feeling both guilty and nervous, she said, "Holly Winslow."

Then she added in a low voice, "Professor Anson, he’s not in our class. He’s here with me."

Annelise’s expression didn’t change; she had clearly seen this sort of thing before. She added two points next to Holly Winslow’s name on the roster. "Since he’s family, the points go to you. You may go back to your seats."

Holly: "..."

’Didn’t they say it was hardest to get extra points in Professor Anson’s class?’

After the two of them returned to their seats, Annelise added, "I hope any other ’family members’ in attendance are here to learn, not just to keep someone company. And even if you are, you should still listen properly. There’s no harm in learning a little extra."

When the lecture ended, Mortimer had to go to his own class. Holly had another class as well, so they went their separate ways.

At noon in the dorm, Holly was reviewing her textbook, going over the key concepts from the morning’s lecture.

Autumn Underwood leaned over. "Holly, someone in the group chat is asking for your number." She handed her phone over for Holly to see.

It was the main university group chat.

Holly glanced at it but didn’t think much of it. She’d already seen plenty of people in the chat asking for Mortimer’s contact information.

’Most were from other departments; students in their own department already knew the handsome guy was taken. The few who did know were just hoping to poach him anyway.’

Serena Shaw, holding a yogurt, came over to look. "Asking for her number is useless," she said, half-joking. "You’d have to be more handsome than Mortimer."

Holly couldn’t help but smile, adding seriously, "You’d have to *be* Mortimer."

Hit with another dose of PDA, Serena Shaw and Autumn Underwood felt a pang of envy. Autumn looked up at the ceiling and groaned, "Holly, have mercy on us singletons."

Mortimer saw the requests for Holly’s contact info in the group chat after his lunch break was over. He raised an eyebrow and tapped his phone screen a few times.

Holly, who had no classes in the afternoon, was still in the dorm reading when Serena Shaw suddenly gasped, "AH! Holly, look at the group chat, quick!"

Holly picked up her phone and looked at it for a moment. "..."

Over a hundred new messages all spammed the same thing: "Holly Winslow is Mortimer Quincy’s girlfriend." She scrolled to the top and saw the red packet with the title "Holly Winslow is Mortimer Quincy’s girlfriend."

"..."

’She didn’t even have to think to know it was that rascal Mortimer.’

Ahem. Her fingers twitched, and she couldn’t resist tapping the red packet. 18.3 yuan.

’She was the Luckiest King!’

"..."
