Chapter 185: My Girlfriend, Holly Winslow, No Need to Look After Her
Chapter 185: My Girlfriend, Holly Winslow, No Need to Look After Her
When Holly Winslow answered Mortimer Quincy’s call, she let out a knowing "Hmph." She had guessed he would call, so she’d cleverly stayed on the first floor instead of going up.
She decided to tease him, panting dramatically into the phone. "What’s up? I’m so tired... I just climbed four flights of stairs. I think I’m going to turn in early tonight."
There was a mirror near the entrance of the girls’ dorm, and in it, Mortimer Quincy clearly saw a girl timidly peeking out from behind the door.
She seemed to be planning a surprise for him.
He raised an eyebrow and played along, turning his back to her. "Okay. Sleep well."
The next second, with a playful tap on his shoulder, Holly popped her head out from behind him. "Quincy the Puppy, your wifey is here!"
Mortimer couldn’t help but chuckle at that. He took her hand, and they started walking toward the man-made lake.
His reaction was far too calm. Holly pouted. "Quincy the Puppy, you’re so unromantic! You were supposed to grab me in a hug and say in surprise, ’Wifey, what are you doing down here? I’m so happy!’"
She was reciting a scene straight out of a novel.
Mortimer raised an eyebrow and said leisurely, "Alright then, a hug it is."
He stopped, pulled her into his arms, and bent down slightly. "I’m so happy."
He paused, then added, "Is that enough? If not, I can add a few kisses."
Holly, who was then "forced" to receive several kisses on her forehead: "..."
She lightly bumped his chest with her head. "You’re so shameless."
People around them were watching, but their gazes were all quite normal.
Holly was no stranger to Branton University; she had visited many times before. The two of them walked a short lap around the campus before heading back the way they came.
Even that short lap had taken an hour.
The dorm room was a quad. When Holly returned, her three roommates were there. Since they didn’t know each other well yet, they exchanged brief glances before looking away.
After politely greeting them, Holly washed up and went to bed.
「The next day」
Wyatt Winslow arrived carrying two large bags of things. Since classes hadn’t started yet, parents were allowed in the dorms.
He handed out some snacks to her three roommates. Holly knew why he was doing it, and her nose tingled. "Dad, you should head back. It’s going to get dark soon."
Wyatt had matters to attend to at the factory and really couldn’t stay long. He pressed his lips together, clearly worried about her being so far from home on her own. "Call me if you need anything."
"I know, Dad."
Holly walked him to the school gate. She pulled a box of candy from her pocket, stuffed it into his hand, and instructed him earnestly, "Dad, no smoking. If you get anxious, have a piece of candy instead."
Wyatt took it and put it in his pocket, his hand unconsciously patting it. "Mm. You take good care of yourself."
He drove away from Branton University. Halfway home, he pulled over and ate a piece of candy. It was only faintly sweet, but the sweetness filled his heart.
’This kind of relationship with Holly... it’s something I never dared to dream of before.’
’I used to think I was a complete failure as a father.’
’My wife left me, and my daughter wasn’t close to me.’
’The problem was with me.’
...
「That evening at seven」
The new students had to report to their respective departments. The math department was next to the finance department. Mortimer walked Holly to the door of her large lecture hall. Gazing at the room, which was filled mostly with boys, he warned her worriedly, "Don’t show off, don’t talk to other guys, and don’t even look at other guys."
Holly: "..."
She let out a quiet "Hmph" and tilted her head back smugly. "I’ll look if I want to."
A dark look flickered in Mortimer’s eyes. He pulled her by the hand into the classroom. Holly had a bad feeling and struggled slightly. "Quincy the Puppy, what are you doing?"
The next moment, they were standing on the professor’s platform. The students below looked up at them in confusion; some even thought they were the academic advisors.
Mortimer leaned over, switched on the microphone on the lectern, and his deep, magnetic voice filled the room. "Allow me to introduce someone. The person next to me is my girlfriend, Holly Winslow. No need to look out for her."
Hearing those words, Holly was speechless: "..."
The large lecture hall erupted with a collective "Whoa," mixed with some crude shouts of "Holy shit!" from the guys.
Then Mortimer added, "I’ll treat you all to a meal another day."
Holly: "..."
There were two to three hundred people in the class cohort. With a meal costing dozens of yuan per person, the bill would easily run into the thousands.
She shot him a glare. ’Spoken like someone who doesn’t have to manage a budget.’
’Let’s see you treat them without any money from me!’
...
The academic advisor was a male professor. He wore glasses and had his hair slicked back with gel. His every move and word exuded the wisdom of a seasoned educator.
He spoke in perfect, standard Mandarin. "Hello, everyone. My name is Wayne Chapman. I am your academic advisor and also your course professor."
"I’m a very easygoing person. As long as you don’t fail my class, we’ll get along just fine."
The students below all laughed. They wouldn’t be laughing once they experienced how monstrous he could be.
Wayne Chapman continued, "Starting tomorrow, you will have one month of military training. Do not be late. If you’re late and get punished, don’t say I didn’t warn you."
"There are very few girls in our major. There are only seven in total across three classes, so look out for them during the military training."
The meeting ended after nine o’clock. Mortimer’s class hadn’t been dismissed yet, so Holly went to his classroom door to wait for him.
His class was let out over ten minutes later. The finance department also had few female students. A crowd of guys flooded out and noticed the girl in the dark blue dress.
Few girls could pull off dark blue so well. She had a small face, fair skin, and her hair was up in a bun. Her features were delicate, with a touch of youthful innocence.
As freshmen who had just started university, the guys hadn’t yet reached the level of confidence needed to ask for a girl’s contact information. So they just stared, and then stared some more.
Mortimer walked out, shot them a cool glance, then wrapped a possessive arm around Holly’s waist and led her away.
The university had a massive group chat used for confessions of love, finding people, and buying or selling things.
[Request] Does anyone have the contact info for this guy? What department is he in?

A guy is standing under a tree, waiting for someone. His side profile is a bit blurry.
A reply came quickly: [Reply] OP, don’t even think about it. He’s the boyfriend of a girl in our math department. He even declared his sovereignty in our classroom today.
[Reply] Holy shit, lucky bastards in the math department.
[Reply] I think you’re a fucking idiot. What’s wrong with our math department? Our girl is hot enough to blind your damn eyes.
[Reply] Don’t you have a fucking clue how ugly you math majors are?

Military training started at 7:20 AM. At 6:10 AM, Holly got up to put on her military uniform, and she was downstairs by 6:20.
In a sea of identical camouflage uniforms, she spotted Mortimer at a glance. The uniform suited him perfectly, flawlessly accentuating his shoulders, waist, and legs.
Mortimer saw her too. The baggy uniform was a bit too big on her, but it made her waist look especially slender.
’His hands are getting itchy.’
The two of them went to the cafeteria and bought two savory crepes. They ate as they walked, and from Mortimer’s perspective, all he could see were her puffed-out cheeks.
’A groundhog.’
’A cute little groundhog.’
He couldn’t help but chuckle. "Groundhog."
Holly, in the middle of eating her crepe, froze for a second before she understood. "..."
She kicked him, flushing with indignation. "Your whole family are groundhogs!"
"My wifey is," Mortimer agreed, raising an eyebrow.
Holly: "..."
She snatched the crepe out of his hand. "You don’t get any more! I bought this!"
But as they neared the training field, she handed it back to him with a "Hmph." "Don’t you go fainting on me."
Mortimer took a bite of the crepe and said slyly, "Fainting? What’s that? Wifey, you’ve got years of experience. Why don’t you teach me? Maybe I could get out of military training."
Holly: "..."
’That bastard Mortimer is definitely taking a jab at me.’
