Chapter 182: I Can Bless You with Marriage
Chapter 182: I Can Bless You with Marriage
It was already 9:27 by the time Holly Winslow got off the bus. Anna Willow and Iris Kensington were already waiting at the bus stop. The moment they saw her, they lunged forward.
"Holly."
"Holly."
Holly Winslow pretended she couldn’t breathe, letting her head loll onto Iris Kensington’s shoulder. "You’re strangling me."
Anna Willow and Iris Kensington burst out laughing, winking at each other. Anna’s eyes darted around as she said, "Ellie, have you seen *Sleeping Beauty*? The sleeping princess needs a kiss from a prince to wake up."
"You should call that handsome cousin of hers and tell him to come play hero and save the damsel in distress."
Iris Kensington pulled out her phone, unable to suppress her grin. "Oh, so Holly wants a kiss from her handsome cousin. I’ll call him right now."
Holly Winslow’s eyes snapped open. She pinched both of them. "You’re so dirty-minded."
The two "dirty-minded" girls laughed so hard they couldn’t stand up straight. Anna Willow put her hands on her hips and declared, "If a woman isn’t dirty-minded, her social standing is at risk."
Holly Winslow and Iris Kensington laughed until their stomachs hurt, earning glances from passersby.
Anna Willow treated them both to milk tea. Holly Winslow shamelessly asked for an extra lemonade as well. After putting her change away, Anna gave her a mischievous look. "Don’t tell me your handsome cousin is coming?"
"Try not to be too jealous." Holly Winslow gave her head a smug little shake.
Anna Willow raised a hand. "Ellie, show her your skills."
The two of them started tickling her. Holly Winslow quickly surrendered, and they let her go.
The three of them chatted by the school gate while drinking their milk tea. At some point, they ran into Xavier Jennings and Beau Sullivan, who had also come to check their scores.
The two groups glanced at each other before going their separate ways.
Anna Willow and Iris Kensington stopped their teasing and went back to their previous conversation with Holly Winslow.
A white car pulled up in an empty lot across the street. A boy in a black short-sleeved shirt and knee-length shorts got out. The glaring sun hit the side of his face, accentuating the high bridge of his nose.
Quite a few girls looked over in their direction.
Anna Willow couldn’t help but click her tongue. "Tsk, tsk. Holly, you should introduce me to one like that, too."
"Just you wait. I’ll go tell Zeke Zane later," Holly Winslow said with a wicked grin.
Mortimer Quincy had already walked over. Holly Winslow handed him the lemonade. "It’s from Anna."
"Did you wash your hair?" Mortimer Quincy asked, noticing her hair was down and the strands by her ears were damp with sweat.
"Yeah, it’s so hot. I forgot to bring a hair tie." Holly Winslow tilted her face up, trying to cool off a bit, then asked, "Did you bring one?"
"I did."
Mortimer Quincy reached into his pants pocket and pulled out a black hair tie. After handing her the lemonade, he skillfully tied up her hair.
Then he pulled a cute-looking clip from his pocket and fastened it in her hair.
A guy who carried a hair tie and a clip in his pocket... The scene was so sweet it gave Anna Willow and Iris Kensington a toothache. They said in unison, "Holly! We’re heading out!"
Before Holly Winslow could say a word, the two of them had already run off. "..."
She huffed playfully at Mortimer Quincy, beaming as she poked him in the chest. "It’s all your fault. You scared my besties away."
Gazing at the girl’s moist lips, Mortimer Quincy raised an eyebrow and murmured, "It’s good they’re scared off. Now that they’re gone, I can use my mouth."
Holly Winslow: "..."
The school gate was currently crowded with students and parents.
She quickly covered her mouth and glared at him fiercely.
’Don’t you dare.’
Mortimer Quincy chuckled, then leaned down to take a sip of her milk tea. He gave her a wink and said, "Wifey, if you want a kiss, just say so. No need to play hard to get."
"Hubby can’t resist wifey’s charms at all."
"After all, hubby is a beast."
Every time he teased her until she was flustered, she would always curse him with the same line: ’Quincy the Puppy! You beast.’
’I’ll take wifey’s path and leave her nowhere to go.’
The hard-to-get Holly Winslow swallowed the words that were on the tip of her tongue. "..."
’This is the one downside to being married for years. He can see right through all my little schemes.’
She raised her fist and pounded on his chest. "Quincy the Puppy, you beast!"
’As expected, she couldn’t hold it in.’
An irrepressible smile spread across Mortimer Quincy’s lips. He caught her small fist, and the next second, their hands were intertwined. "Mhm."
Holly Winslow: "..."
There were only two minutes until ten o’clock. The office was already packed wall-to-wall with students waiting to check their scores.
It was impossible to squeeze inside, so Holly Winslow pulled Mortimer Quincy over to a stone railing to wait. Anna Willow and Iris Kensington were starting to get nervous. Finally, they bowed to Mortimer Quincy.
Mortimer Quincy and Holly Winslow: "..."
Anna Willow said, "Handsome cousin, please bless us so we pass with flying colors."
Iris Kensington nodded in agreement.
Mortimer Quincy and Holly Winslow: "..."
Holly Winslow glanced at Mortimer Quincy, and the next second, she bowed to him too. "Please bless me so I pass with flying colors."
Mortimer Quincy: "..."
’Damn it, they actually made me laugh.’
He raised a hand and gently flicked her on the forehead. "I can bless you with an early marriage," he said languidly.
Holly Winslow: "..."
’Bless my foot.’
’Marry my foot.’
’Mortimer Quincy, my foot.’
Her face turned red.
After a moment of stunned silence, Anna Willow and Iris Kensington couldn’t help but burst out laughing.
Just then, Julian Carlton suddenly shouted from the office, "739! Holly Winslow, 739!"
The people around them all let out a "WOW," looking at Holly Winslow with envy.
Anna Willow and Iris Kensington hugged her, congratulating her excitedly. "Holly, congratulations! Hahaha, from now on, we’re friends with a top scholar!"
Scholar Winslow gave each of them a kiss on the cheek. "Scholar Winslow will look out for you."
Mortimer Quincy raised an eyebrow. ’Mentally taking note: ten kisses.’
After the collective "WOW," everyone started checking their own scores. Most of them started crying. Even those who usually had poor grades cried, perhaps finally realizing the gap between them.
As a former class teacher, Holly Winslow found the scene somewhat melancholy and felt sorry for them. ’Some things won’t yield returns without effort.’
’A rare stroke of luck doesn’t really mean anything.’
Mortimer Quincy, who was beside her, put an arm around her and patted her shoulder gently. "You’ve already done your part."
Holly Winslow nodded, then pulled out her phone to call Wyatt Winslow. "Dad, the scores are out. 739."
On the other end of the line, Wyatt Winslow’s brows lifted in a smile. His voice seemed to hold a sense of irrepressible pride and relief. "Good. Come home early."
Anna Willow’s and Iris Kensington’s scores were out too. Anna got a 438 and Iris a 442. At Jarton Second High, those were considered upper-mid-range scores.
Based on scores alone, Iris Kensington’s was slightly better, but Anna Willow had taken the arts track entrance exam, which meant she could choose a first-tier university. Iris could only choose from second-tier ones.
In her past life, Anna Willow had only made it into a third-tier university, and Iris Kensington had ended up in a vocational college, just like she had.
Their hard work had paid off.
Anna Willow and Iris Kensington were grinning from ear to ear. They immediately pulled out their phones to report the good news to their families.
Anna Willow said, "Mom, I made the cutoff for a first-tier university! Hahaha, you have to buy me a computer."
Iris Kensington: "Dad, I made the cutoff for a second-tier university. Don’t come get me, I’ll be home soon."
Just then, Holly Winslow received a call from Gabe Chaucer. "Teacher Chaucer."
Gabe Chaucer couldn’t hide the laughter in his voice. "Have you checked your score?"
"I did. It’s 739."
"That’s excellent." Gabe Chaucer had been following Holly Winslow’s grades; she usually scored around 720. He added, "Mortimer Quincy got a perfect 750. Is he with you? We can’t get through to him, his phone is off."
Holly Winslow: "..."
"He is. I’ll pass the phone to him."
She handed the phone to Mortimer Quincy. He took it. "Mhm. Okay. This afternoon."
After he hung up, Holly Winslow gave him a thumbs-up and said with a beaming smile, "Scholar Quincy, you’re amazing!"
Mortimer Quincy couldn’t help but smile. "Wifey is amazing too."
