Chapter 402: Fierce Woman (2)_1
Moreover, the space also had a preserving function, so food never spoiled and remained as it was when first stored.Feeling the intense gazes of the others around her, Shangguan You’s eyes flickered. Could it be they didn’t use their space to store food and water? To avoid attracting further attention, she became more cautious. Closing her eyes, she began to cultivate slowly, as a continual stream of Spiritual Energy moved towards her, flooding into her body.
Bai Muxue and Ye Er Shao had initially closed their eyes. Now, they opened them, surprised by the crazy inflow of Spiritual Energy into her body. They had never seen such rampant Spiritual Energy before. Looking at Shangguan You’s unchanged expression, they couldn’t help but wonder, How could she withstand so much Spiritual Energy?
When they reached their destination, it was broad daylight. The people in front had already disembarked one after another, leaving only Shangguan You and Ye Er Shao. Bai Muxue had left at some unknown point. Ye Er Shao regarded Shangguan You with a peculiar, icy gaze.
"What’s the matter?" she asked.
"Nothing much. Just remember to speak less and do less. Keeping a low profile is fundamental," Ye Er Shao replied indifferently.
"I know," Shangguan You nodded and followed Ye Er Shao out. The surrounding area was lush with trees, and the Spiritual Energy was slightly richer than that of the secular world, though still less than what they had experienced along the way.
Shangguan You felt as if she had stepped into an ecological garden. Ancient and modern elements intertwined here: little bridges over flowing water, bamboo lodges, high-rise buildings, shops, tailors, and apothecaries—everything one could possibly need.
On the street, pedestrians came and went, and some people even flew through the air. There were those dressed in Tang, Jin, and Han dynasty clothing, and even some in modern fashion—men and women alike, each with their own style. The shops, too, were uniquely fashioned, offering all kinds of wares.
Shangguan You had imagined Hidden World Village thousands of times, but seeing such an amalgamation of hundreds of years—Eastern classical beauty, modern aesthetics, even Westerners—left her unsettled. Had it not been for the sight of those skyscrapers, she would have suspected she’d traveled back to ancient times.
The only thing absent here were cars; there were no vehicles whatsoever. On the streets, there was even a blacksmith shop. Seeing flutes and swords being used as transportation through the sky, Shangguan You forcefully wiped sweat from her forehead.
"Ye Er Shao, what’s the common currency here?" Shangguan You murmured, suddenly realizing her bank cards might be useless, since people here seemed to trade with various stones.
"Naturally, it’s Spirit Jade," Ye Er Shao said, looking at Shangguan You as if she were an idiot. "Spirit Jade serves as one of the circulating currencies here. High-quality Spirit Jade benefits everyone, as they can absorb the Spiritual Energy within for personal use."
"I don’t have any money. Do you?" Shangguan You’s mouth twitched as she stepped closer to Ye Er Shao. He wouldn’t abandon her and run off, would he?
"If you don’t have any, you can earn it," Ye Er Shao replied coldly, heading towards a very classical-looking gambling house.
"Isn’t this Hidden World Village, a gathering place for Cultivators? Why is there a gambling house?" Shangguan You couldn’t help but feel confused. She felt like a country bumpkin entering the village, curious and clueless about everything. It was the first time she’d felt so out of touch, wondering why she didn’t know any of this. Am I already outdated?
"Cultivators are still human; they also eat, drink, and seek entertainment," Ye Er Shao stated coldly. "They need relaxation too. Not everyone has the talent for Cultivation. Although everyone here possesses Spiritual Energy, some can’t progress beyond the early stages. Those without talent are nurtured by their families into business elites to make money for the family. Some are even sent into the secular world to gather information or become dignitaries for their families. The world here is much like the outside world, except its people possess some extra Spiritual Energy."
"Your Shangguan Family was once a major power here too," he continued. "But due to a calamity, they had to leave Hidden World Village and struggle in the secular world. Considering they’re now in a high position, they’re doing quite well."
Survival of the fittest—a concept that fits well everywhere.
"Young Master Bai, your humble Mudan greets you," a coquettish voice rang out. A flamboyantly dressed woman in a Tang-dynasty costume approached. She wore a seductive, floor-length red dress embroidered with large peony flowers in gold thread. Her hair was styled in a classic beauty’s coiffure, adorned with a large peony flower. The enchanting lady gave Bai Muxue a slight curtsey.
As she bent over, the pale skin of her décolletage became visible. She gave Bai Muxue a flirtatious wink and, feigning unsteadiness, leaned towards him.
"Brother Bai, you’re back! Haitang has missed you so much," another woman, dressed in light-colored Jin-dynasty attire, said as she gazed longingly at Bai Muxue. Seeing him avoid Mudan, her eyes shone even more brightly.
"Cheap slut! How dare you try to seduce my Brother Muxue?" another arrogant female voice shouted. A woman in a light purple period dress appeared, brandishing a long whip and lashing it towards Mudan and the woman in Jin attire.
"Rose, Young Master Bai is the man I’ve set my sights on! How dare you try to snatch him?" Mudan declared, twirling gracefully to dodge the whip. She then laughed provocatively at the furious Rose.
"Rose, Brother Bai likes me!" Haitang retorted, her previous frail demeanor vanishing as she lunged at Rose. The three fiery women clashed in an instant.
Bai Muxue’s lips curled into a slight smirk as he watched the three women brawl, his arms crossed.
"Their conduct is representative of Hidden World Village. Learn from them. That lovestruck act of yours is useless here; in fact, it might just pique their interest. If you cause trouble before we find Zhuge Feng, you’d better learn to behave," Ye Er Shao said coldly to Shangguan You as they stood in a secluded corner.
"Are all the women here so fierce? Do they resort to violence at the slightest disagreement?" Shangguan You asked, rubbing her forehead, a headache starting. No wonder her earlier fawning over Bai Muxue had piqued his interest. The women here apparently knew nothing of restraint. If they fancied a man, they made bold moves, even acting like complete shrews. Could they truly all be like that?
