Chapter 589: 573 How to Be Tough: Part One "Yanyan." Jiang Jinghuai’s hand remained on his head as he looked at his delicate little face and said softly, "Your hair has grown longer. You should get your mom to take you out for a haircut."
Meng Shuyan shot him a suspicious glance. Is that true?
Has his hair grown longer?
He’s not his dad, so why is he saying such things? And calling him Yanyan too?
So annoying.
Tian Sangsang stood in the doorway with a cold expression. "Yanyan, why are you talking to strangers? Hurry, carry your brother over here to Mom."
Meng Shuyan let out an "Oh" in response and obediently carried Little Tangyuan over to her.
Tian Sangsang placed the two children in the compartment and then stood watch at the main entrance with a guarded look.
Jiang Jinghuai got up and walked toward the door. Even though he had rehearsed this countless times in his mind, the words still felt unbearably difficult.
After a long silence, he finally rasped out two hoarse words, "Sangsang."
Tian Sangsang curled her lips in ridicule, as though she hadn’t heard him.
"Things are getting chaotic outside. The Hua Family has fallen," Jiang Jinghuai said, his cold gaze settling on her face as he succinctly added, "So, over the next couple of days, you need to be extra careful."
Tian Sangsang sneered indifferently and looked at him. "The Hua Family has fallen, and you’re not going to check on Hua Jun but came to tell me this instead. Why? Comrade Ye, on what grounds are you saying this to me, exactly?"
Jiang Jinghuai replied, "I don’t go by Ye."
"So, you go by Jiang?" She asked slowly.
Jiang Jinghuai dared not respond.
Ha.
"You say it’s not, and it’s not. You say it is, and it is. It always comes down to what you say, doesn’t it?" Tian Sangsang declared. "As long as you stay away from us, everything will be fine! Please stop disrupting our peaceful lives!"
She was suppressing a fury she didn’t know whether to direct at him or herself.
Jiang Jinghuai lowered his eyes dejectedly. At this point, he was finally able to shed his shell and face his family. The people were the same, but something had undoubtedly changed.
**
To Tian Sangsang, Jiang Jinghuai’s visit was merely a minor hiccup. After venting her anger, that was the end of it. She didn’t care whether he was Jiang Jinghuai or Ye Jiang because she had always known he was Jiang Jinghuai.
What she wanted was simply a certain attitude—a clear explanation.
She wasn’t one to make unreasonable demands. In the past, she had even said she felt sorry for him and just wanted an answer. But at the time, he refused.
Once he refused, there was nothing left to say.
However, she did keep the Hua Family’s impending downfall in mind and resolved to be more vigilant.
That evening, Meng Shuyan was seated on the sofa, sneaking glances her way. After a few attempts, he softly called out, "Mom."
Tian Sangsang had noticed his wandering eyes long ago. She cleared her throat and said, "Hmm?"
The little one approached her shyly and pointed at his head. "Has my hair grown longer?"
Oh?
Tian Sangsang seriously examined his hair for a moment, then scooped him up onto the sofa.
She pulled out a wooden comb and started combing through his hair, gently pressing it down with her hands. Good heavens, his hair was already covering his big eyes. When she let go, his hair bounced back slightly.
Meng Shuyan held up a mirror, closing one eye and keeping the other open, looking mischievously adorable.
"Come, son, let Mom give you a hairstyle." Tian Sangsang kissed his cheek and smiled warmly.
Meng Shuyan’s little face turned slightly red, and he blinked his jet-black eyes in confusion.
Tian Sangsang pulled out a red hair tie and gathered the hair from his forehead into a little bundle, turning it into a tiny topknot. After adjusting it from different angles, she thought he looked utterly adorable.
Perhaps he’d never seen this kind of hairstyle before because Meng Shuyan stared at it curiously for a while before going to hold Little Tangyuan.
Little Tangyuan’s eyes lit up when he saw the hairstyle and reached out with tiny hands, eager to grab it.
Later, when they ran into Zhao Chun, Meng Shuyan enthusiastically clung to his leg, tilting his head up, "Chun Zisu, look at my new hairdo!" With a tiny black spring tied on his head.
Zhao Chun lifted him slightly higher, squinting. "Did you tie this yourself, Yanyan?"
"Nope," Meng Shuyan answered brightly, "Mom helped me tie it."
Zhao Chun glanced over at Tian Sangsang.
"Straight out of the ’killmatt’ school of styling," Tian Sangsang joked with a faint smile. "Want to give it a try yourself?"
Zhao Chun gave a small shake and an unmistakable look: Nope, definitely not.
**
Late the next night, after putting the two children to bed, Tian Sangsang tiptoed toward her bed, ready to sleep. Suddenly, a faint clang sounded outside the door—as if something had slipped through the window.
Tian Sangsang’s instincts flared. But just as she hesitated to check the door, a shadow loomed behind her.
The shadow blended with hers on the ground under the pale moonlight streaming in.
Her heart thudded violently.
In the darkness, someone chuckled softly, "Miss Tian, long time no see~"
Tian Sangsang turned around in dismay, only to come face-to-face with the smug Hua Zifeng. He stood right next to Little Tangyuan’s cradle, his hand resting on it—a gesture steeped in menace.
Hua Zifeng stared fixedly at her. "If you don’t want anything to happen to your son, be a good girl and come with me."
Though his tone was playful, Tian Sangsang detected the chilling undertone. She hadn’t expected the fugitive Hua Zifeng to linger in Beijing, let alone come looking for her.
The sudden turn of events made her keenly aware of her precarious situation.
Hua Zifeng wasn’t someone to trifle with.
"Alright."
With her heart pounding, she fixated on his hand and said, "Let’s talk outside. Just don’t harm my son."
Hua Zifeng raised the knife he held and walked towards her slowly, then took her hands and bound them with a rope.
As they moved to the living room, Tian Sangsang wriggled her hands and asked coldly, "What are you trying to do?"
Hua Zifeng shrugged. "You’re like a little wildcat that won’t behave, so I figured tying you up was necessary."
"I have no quarrel with you."
"Your man has a quarrel with me."
"Isn’t he your sister’s man?" Tian Sangsang forced down her anger, attempting to reason calmly. "I have nothing to do with him anymore. Although we’re technically married, it’s practically no different from being divorced."
"Oh, really?" Hua Zifeng raised a brow, "But my sister isn’t as useful as you. She doesn’t affect him in the way you do."
Tian Sangsang insisted, "Taking me won’t solve anything!"
She truly wanted nothing more than to sever all ties with Jiang Jinghuai!
"We’ll know if it works once we try," Hua Zifeng said with a confident, teasing smile. "You underestimate your own charm. If you’d chosen me back then, I could have given you so much, instead of someone as indifferent as Jiang Jinghuai."
Not wanting to argue over past grievances, Tian Sangsang replied flatly, "I want to change my clothes."
She was wearing a thick, floor-length sleep dress, and the faintly visible curves beneath it seemed even more alluring in the dim light. Hua Zifeng’s gaze flickered for a moment, and he draped his coat over her shoulders with a suggestive grin. "This will do."
Damn you! Tian Sangsang cursed inwardly.
As they moved through dimly lit areas, to her dismay, Hua Zifeng stuck close to her like glue, leaving her no space to maneuver. She couldn’t even take advantage of the surroundings.
The situation, which she hadn’t intended to get involved in, had now placed her safety at the forefront of her concerns.
By the time they arrived at the seaside, the night had grown impossibly dark.
