Chapter 590 - 574 How to Be Tough: Part Two
Chapter 590 - 574 How to Be Tough: Part Two
The dark ocean loomed like oppressive storm clouds, rolling in from the horizon. The salty sea water accompanied the sea breeze, wave after wave crashing down. Tian Sangsang’s black hair was swept by the wind, resembling the swaying seaweed stretching within the ocean, fluttering noisily in the air.
She followed Hua Zifeng, step by step leaving footprints on the sandy beach, halting before a ship docked on the shore.
News of the Hua Family’s downfall had been spreading like wildfire in Beijing recently, almost everyone was aware.
No matter the justification, once involved with drugs, it was deemed irredeemably sinful.
As Tian Sangsang gazed at the ship, a dangerous realization suddenly formed—Hua Zifeng was planning to smuggle himself out. This realization grew stronger as she spotted Hua Zifeng’s father stepping off the ship.
They must not be allowed to escape! Their hands were stained with drugs.
Whether public or private reasons, she had to find a way to stop them.
Hua Zifeng’s father was dressed in a black jacket and wore a black cap, masking himself like a nocturnal wanderer. Upon seeing Tian Sangsang, he was startled for a moment, then frowned: "Zifeng, is this the important matter you spoke of? You want to take her with you?"
At this moment, he still wanted to bring a woman!
Indeed, he couldn’t change his nature!
"Dad, I don’t intend to take her. I plan to use her as a hostage." Hua Zifeng calmly replied: "I’ve arranged for Jiang Jinghuai to come. He will certainly show up."
"What?!" Hua Zifeng’s father was clearly hearing about this for the first time, unable to conceal his shock: "How could you be so reckless? If Jiang Jinghuai comes, the police will surely follow, and we’ll be in danger!"
"I know, but I have leverage in my hand."
Hua Zifeng, calm and collected, suddenly asked in a chilling tone: "Dad, are you really willing to swallow this humiliation?"
"In a single night, our glory disappeared, and now we face imprisonment. My mother and sister were arrested; you and I are fleeing. Once I had the world’s admiration, now I have nothing. All of this is Jiang Jinghuai’s doing!"
Hua Zifeng’s father heaved a heavy sigh.
He wasn’t as impulsive as Hua Zifeng. From the moment he became involved, he had anticipated today’s consequences. That’s why he did everything while keeping it from his children. Even if he fell, his son wouldn’t be implicated, as he had never been involved in those matters before. As for any issues of conduct, they weren’t capital crimes, just minor transgressions.
His daughter Hua Jun was caught for abusing her position, his wife was implicated for undertaking tasks alongside him, her hands stained as well. As long as he could protect his son, he had few regrets.
"Where there are green mountains, there will always be wood to burn." Hua Zifeng’s father said, "Once we cross the border, they won’t be able to catch us. Whenever you seek revenge, we can plan it slowly."
Tian Sangsang sneered faintly, her lips curling mockingly as she glanced at Hua Zifeng: "I think your father makes sense."
"It’s already too late."
A sinister smile tugged at Hua Zifeng’s lips as his gaze shifted forward. "Jiang Jinghuai is here."
Tian Sangsang’s heart sank, and she, along with Hua Zifeng’s father, instinctively looked ahead. In the murky darkness, a figure approached step by step, his coat flaring like a colossal net.
All was silent between heaven and earth, save for the resounding clash of waves crashing against each other.
Hua Zifeng pushed Tian Sangsang back. "Dad, keep an eye on her and wait for me to avenge us."
Tian Sangsang lowered her gaze coldly. She couldn’t care less about whatever scheme Hua Zifeng intended to play with Jiang Jinghuai.
Hua Zifeng requested a gun from his father, who handed him a dagger in return, pressing it against Tian Sangsang’s throat. Tian Sangsang knew she was a hostage—alive for now—but she didn’t expect Jiang Jinghuai to come and save her.
She lifted her eyes, coincidentally meeting his gaze. Seeing him now, she remained composed, her heart unmoved. He shouldn’t expect her to feel the same as before, giving her heart and soul for him.
That’s right, don’t expect it.
She had no heart nor soul anymore.
Indeed, she hoped he could be like her, cold and detached, with no heart or soul.
Jiang Jinghuai naturally noticed her icy stare—sharper than the sea breeze—each glance a dull pain carving into his flesh, each gaze a blade stabbing his heart.
He hadn’t slept soundly for a long time, barely closing his eyes at all, his bloodshot eyes brimming with weariness. His lips, dried and cracked by the sea breeze, would bleed with even the slightest tightening.
Her beautiful eyes, once brimming with peach blossoms and overflowing laughter, had been just for him. Now they held nothing. He suddenly recalled their time in Beijiang, under the snowy sky, when he had carried her across boundless snowfields.
Just as cold as tonight, yet his heart had been warm.
That had been the happiest moment of his life.
Because that road led them home, to their son.
"Jiang Jinghuai, as you can see, your woman is in my hands." Hua Zifeng spoke slowly, interrupting his train of thought. "If you want to save her, then let’s play a game."
The icy blade against her throat pressed harder, as if about to slice through in the next moment.
Tian Sangsang frowned in defiance, the pain forcing her to tilt her head slightly upward. She utterly despised the feeling of being controlled.
"Don’t hurt her," Jiang Jinghuai said firmly, his eyes coldly fixated on Hua Zifeng. "So this is the purpose of your late-night invitation?"
Hua Zifeng nodded, lazily folding his arms. "Yes, and you’ve proven trustworthy, coming alone without hesitation. So, are you willing to play the game?"
"If you win, you can take her with you. If you lose, you die."
"Alright."
"Alright!" Hua Zifeng clapped his hands, laughing heartily. "I like decisive people like you!" He then turned to Tian Sangsang. "I told you, you underestimated your own value."
Tian Sangsang snorted quietly, indifferent. As if she cared?
Hua Zifeng retrieved five additional guns from the ship, standing confidently as he began to explain, "I now have six guns in my hands." While speaking, he unloaded the bullets from all six identical black guns, leaving only one, and tossed the rest into the sea. Turning away, he loaded the single bullet into one of the gun chambers and shuffled the weapons.
"Only one gun is loaded in my hands. This game is essentially Russian roulette. I assume I don’t need to explain the rules."
It was a game of life or death. Hua Zifeng’s father looked solemn. "Zifeng."
Hua Zifeng raised his hand confidently. "Dad, just keep an eye on the hostage. This is my duel with him. If we lose, we simply let her go—no harm done. If we win, all the better."
Even someone as composed as Tian Sangsang felt a sudden jolt of fear. Russian roulette—the infamous game of life and death. The revolver’s chamber had six slots, one holding the single bullet. Players spun the chamber and aimed the gun at their own heads, pulling the trigger. It was purely down to luck. Those unlucky died instantly.
Hua Zifeng was a madman!
At this moment, Jiang Jinghuai had no choice. He smirked coldly. "She is my wife. I’ll take the first shot." With grave attention, he selected one of the six guns, briefly glancing at Tian Sangsang, then pressed it to his temple and pulled the trigger!
Click—!
No bullet—an empty chamber!
Jiang Jinghuai compressed his lips, casually discarding the useless gun to the ground.
"You’re lucky," Hua Zifeng shrugged.
"Here’s hoping for your success," Jiang Jinghuai replied.
Perhaps, facing life and death, they could still exchange words with the ease of banter.
