Chapter 1405 - 1407: We Really Should Get Along Well
When Yang Dong was about to leave, Aunt Lan Hua spoke up again, "Yang Dong, if there are any leftovers at your uncle’s house later, remember to bring some to my home. After all, the food won’t last more than two days anyway, and it would be a shame to waste it. Bringing it back can help nourish our Xiaocui."
Aunt Lan Hua knew that Yang Dong was going to the Yang Family’s main house to eat. She also knew that the Yang Family had prepared a lot of food today, a feast of fish and meat that made her salivate.
Yang Dong had helped their family with work for a few days, doing his tasks diligently. Whatever she said went, making Aunt Lan Hua feel a bit entitled and think Yang Dong was easy to handle. So she boldly asked for the food, not forgetting to remind that it was to help their Xiaocui’s health, making it hard for Yang Dong to refuse.
Sure enough, Yang Dong didn’t refuse, he just said ’okay,’ and then left the yard.
Once Yang Dong exited the yard, he sighed silently. He was really speechless about Aunt Lan Hua’s actions today.
No one was as blatant at taking advantage like this.
After Yang Dong left, Yang Xiaocui, who had been silent all along, finally spoke up, "Mom, don’t ask Yang Dong for food anymore."
These past few days, Yang Dong hadn’t talked to her at all, which made her feel bad. She knew Yang Dong didn’t like her at all; he agreed to marry her only under pressure.
If her mother continued acting oblivious and doing repulsive things, it might implicate her, making Yang Dong like her even less. What would she do then?
So she spoke up, trying to persuade her mother.
Upon hearing Yang Xiaocui’s words, Aunt Lan Hua furrowed her brows. Since getting engaged to Yang Dong, this little girl had become more headstrong, contradicting her repeatedly. She never used to defy her before.
"Daughter, this is for your own good. Look at your figure, so thin and small. If you don’t nourish yourself, how will you have children after you get married? I’m reminding that boy Yang Dong to treat you better," Aunt Lan Hua said justly, leaving Yang Xiaocui feeling helpless. What her mother said sounded nice, to nourish her, but Xiaocui knew that even if Yang Dong did bring back good food, she wouldn’t get more than a few bites.
Seeing that she couldn’t reason with her mother, Yang Xiaocui decided not to say more, turned around to head back inside but at that moment, she noticed a girl from the neighboring yard watching her.
She knew that girl was a young lady from the wealthy family next door and was aware of her mother’s recent corn-snatching incident with them.
She thought her mother was crazy. Just days ago, she worked at the wealthy family’s house for some wages, and now she went against them. Would they hire them again in the future? Her mother just couldn’t help herself when it came to taking advantage, which is why their family remained poor.
The young lady from the wealthy family probably heard everything that was just said in the yard.
Both families lived next door, not too far apart, with only a low wall separating them. Sitting in the yard, one could clearly see what was happening in the neighboring yard.
The young lady seemed friendly, appearing easy to get along with.
As the two families would be neighbors from now on, they should really get along well.
And if she could make friends with someone wealthy like that, it might be beneficial for her.
With this thought, Yang Xiaocui gave Li Chuntao a friendly smile to show goodwill, then headed into the kitchen to prepare dinner for everyone.
