Chapter 585 - 580: Critical Condition (Part 2)

Luo Zhiyong had just finished his phone call when a soldier came to report that his sister-in-law had called with an emergency and asked him to pick up the phone.

Luo Zhiyong guessed that Fang Pingying was urgently calling also because of Luo Dashan’s matter, so he didn’t waste any time to answer the call, but instead instructed the soldier, "If my sister-in-law calls again, tell her to get ready, we might have to take the kids back to our hometown."

The soldier was taken aback, then asked with concern, "Battalion Commander, is something wrong at home?"

Luo Zhiyong nodded, "Yes, my father has been hospitalized."

The soldier was quick-witted and immediately said after hearing Luo Zhiyong’s words, "Battalion Commander, then you better pack your things and go; I’ll notify your sister-in-law."

Luo Zhiyong packed up his things and took the bus to Fang Pingying’s place.

Upon hearing the soldier’s response and the call from Luo Dahu, who had also clarified the situation, Fang Pingying knew that Luo Dashan was in critical condition, having already spent a day and night in the town clinic without any improvement. Luo Dahu was afraid he might not make it.

Moreover, the doctors at the town clinic were already urging them to transfer hospitals since the town clinic was merely a health center, with limited equipment and medical expertise. To properly treat the patient, a transfer was necessary, potentially offering a slight hope. If the family couldn’t afford it, they were suggested to simply discharge the patient and go home for care.

Luo Dahu didn’t dare to make the decision alone. He also knew about Luo Zhiyong and Fang Pingying’s divorce, so he called Fang Ping, asking her to tell Luo Zhiyong to see if he could bring the two children to see Luo Dashan, who had been constantly calling out for Yaoyao and Ruirui during his illness, expressing his wish to see his grandchildren before his departure.

When Fang Ping received the call, Fang Pingying was also in the shop, naturally learning about Luo Dashan’s situation.

So, Fang Pingying didn’t think about anything else and called Luo Zhiyong to notify him.

As for Yaoyao and Ruirui, Fang Pingying thought it over and decided to let the two little ones visit Luo Dashan. Luo Dashan was a good person and their biological grandfather, who hadn’t had a chance to see them since they were born.

If Luo Dashan got better this time, it would be fine, but if he really couldn’t pull through and hadn’t seen Ruirui and the others before his death, she thought Luo Zhiyong would feel guilty for the rest of his life. Even though she was no longer his daughter-in-law, as a younger member of the family, she couldn’t bear this burden.

If the two little ones were going back, she naturally had to accompany them.

Therefore, she didn’t delay, immediately went back and discussed the matter with Luo Honglan, who was also very anxious, and decided to go back with them.

After packing everyone’s belongings, they all waited at home for Luo Zhiyong.

When Luo Zhiyong arrived, they grabbed their luggage without much discussion and headed for the train station.

In the afternoon, the group hurriedly reached the town’s health clinic.

At the hospital, Luo Dahu and his wife were almost driven mad with worry. They both wanted to transfer Luo Dashan to a better hospital, where there would at least be hope, recalling how Luo Dahu’s illness was similar last time. However, due to the family’s limited financial situation, the transfer to the county hospital would incur quite an expense.

Besides, the money for Luo Dashan’s current stay in the town clinic had already come out of their pockets, depleting much of the savings they had worked hard to accumulate.

All the Luo Family’s money was taken by Zhou Yunmei, and Luo Zhiming is of no use at all. When it comes to money, he stays silent as if he were dead. Even asking him to run a simple errand seems too much, making him reluctant. When tasked with making a phone call, he dilly-dallies and refuses to go, which led to Luo Dahu swearing at him countless times today, to the point where he was nearly ready to beat him.

Seeing Luo Zhiyong and the others rushing back, Luo Dahu couldn’t be bothered to say anything else and hurriedly said, "Zhiyong, quick, get your dad transferred to the county hospital, he can’t wait any longer."

Luo Zhiyong hastily asked, "What did the doctor say?"

Luo Dahu briefly explained, "The night before last, when your mom and the others left, your dad suddenly got diarrhea, said it was multiple times. When Zhiming called me over to your place, your dad couldn’t hold on anymore. Seeing the seriousness, I hurriedly sent him to the hospital."

Without a doubt, Luo Zhiyong knew it must be Zhou Yunmei and the others who did something to Luo Dashan. He was so angry he could hardly catch his breath, not knowing what to say.

Upon seeing Luo Zhiming standing to the side, he grabbed him by the collar and pulled him in front, demanding fiercely, "Luo Zhiming, what exactly did you all do to make dad like this?"

Luo Zhiming, feeling guilty, didn’t dare to meet Luo Zhiyong’s eyes and just lowered his head, stammering, "I, I didn’t, didn’t do anything. Dad just suddenly fell ill."

"You..." Luo Zhiyong was so angry that he punched Luo Zhiming twice, knocking him to the ground, where he stayed without getting up for a long time.

Luo Honglan, seeing this, also went over and punched Luo Zhiming a few times, while scolding, "Luo Zhiming, why don’t you just drop dead? He’s your own father, and you still have the heart to harm him."

Luo Zhiming, beaten by Luo Zhiyong and Luo Honglan, didn’t dare to talk back and just crouched on the ground, cringing.

Fang Pingying saw Luo Zhiming’s guilt and was even more certain that he and others must have secretly done something that led to Luo Dashan becoming ill. However, Fang Pingying still stopped Luo Zhiyong, "Let’s not dwell on this for now. Go ask the doctor about transferring hospitals. I’ll take the kids to see their grandfather."

When Fang Pingying and Luo Honglan, with the two little ones, arrived at Luo Dashan’s ward, he was lying on the bed, gasping for breath, with his eyes tightly closed, showing no signs of life, and he looked at least twenty pounds thinner than when Fang Pingying last saw him.

Luo Dashan had originally been on the thin side, but now he appeared to have become just skin and bones, and his complexion was alarmingly pale due to the illness. Just by looking, it seemed he might not make it through.

Seeing Luo Dashan, both Ruirui and Yaoyao were even a bit scared and kept burrowing into Fang Pingying and Luo Honglan’s embrace.

Fang Pingying gently patted Yaoyao’s back and whispered to them, pointing at the bedridden Luo Dashan, "Ruirui, Yaoyao, mom told you before, we came back this time to see grandfather. This is your grandfather, say hello to him."

In actuality, in the hearts of the two little ones, they had never interacted with their grandparents, having no idea who they were. They would occasionally say hello during a phone call as if completing a task, immediately running away afterward, and then forgetting all about it.

It was only on the train ride that Fang Pingying explained at length, and they vaguely seemed to understand.

But they hadn’t expected their grandfather to be like this, and were too frightened to approach.

After Fang Pingying coaxed for a while, Yaoyao braved up, but was still unwilling to move closer, and just stuck her little head out towards Luo Dashan on the bed and called out, "Grandpa."

Immediately after, she ducked her head back into Fang Pingying’s chest.

Seeing this, Ruirui followed and called out as well.
