Chapter 517 - 512: Divorce (Part 1)
Luo Zhiyong cast a glance at Zhou Yunmei, his expression resolute and brooking no doubt, "Ruirui is my son, it’s my call where he stays, you don’t have to worry about it."
Hearing this, Zhou Yunmei began to protest, "How can you..."
But before she could finish, Luo Dashan returned from outside.
He glared at Zhou Yunmei and said coldly, "Zhou Yunmei, were you not beaten enough last night, or are you trying to cause trouble again?"
"I..." Seeing that Luo Dashan was still angry, Zhou Yunmei didn’t dare to continue and quietly went off to the side.
After looking at them both, Luo Zhiyong greeted his father as he walked out, "Dad, I’m leaving now, I’ll come back after I’ve handled everything."
Luo Dashan sighed, still not wanting them to divorce, but having said all there was to say the day before, he knew there was no use in trying to dissuade them further and said, "Alright, go ahead."
Luo Zhiyong nodded and headed to the town.
It was still early when he arrived in town, and because there was no market day, there were few people. Luo Zhiyong casually ate something and then went to wait at the entrance of the village government.
When Fang Pingying arrived from the county to the town, it was almost nine o’clock, and she ran into Luo Zhiyong, who was waiting at the village government’s entrance.
Luo Zhiyong glanced at her and asked, "Have you had breakfast?"
Fang Pingying nodded, "I already ate over there."
Luo Zhiyong hummed and pointed to the entrance of the village government, "Alright, then let’s go in early. After we’re done, I’ll take you to the county to catch a bus. You can still make it back to the provincial city today."
"No need to escort me, I can get there myself," despite feeling slightly uncomfortable every time she saw how eager Luo Zhiyong was about the divorce, Fang Pingying maintained a placid exterior. She nodded her head and walked towards the village government, "Let’s go."
At that time, the village government in the small town was all-powerful, handling everything from marriages to divorces, with no formal civil affairs office established yet.
Perhaps because divorce was not so common in the town at that time, they couldn’t find anyone in charge of divorces after looking around the village government building.
After asking several people who all indicated it wasn’t their responsibility and directed them upstairs, only then did they find out that the office only handled marriages in the morning and would not process divorces until later, at least until all the marriages were done. Fang Pingying and Luo Zhiyong were told to sit and wait.
Fang Pingying had planned to sit and wait, but inside the room were people coming for marriages, who all looked at them like they were freaks upon hearing they were there to divorce. Some looked upset, feeling it was a bad omen - getting married only once in a lifetime, and crossing paths with those seeking a divorce.
After receiving such stares for a while, Fang Pingying felt too stifled and decided to step out of the room.
Luo Zhiyong glanced at her but said nothing, following her outside.
Standing next to Fang Pingying, Luo Zhiyong reached out to take her hand, intending to say something.
But Fang Pingying frowned and slapped his hand, "If you have something to say, just say it."
They were there to divorce, and this was how a divorce was supposed to look. What did this kind of behavior mean?
Even though it was under reluctant circumstances that they were divorcing, since they had agreed to it, they were to have no relationship afterwards, and such tugging and pulling made no sense.
Luo Zhiyong’s lips twitched, and he didn’t insist on taking Fang Pingying’s hand.
He simply said, "You have to take care in the future. When I’m not there, let both of our parents help you more. Don’t take on everything by yourself. You are a woman, not an iron person, and you can get tired."
"Don’t worry, without all that messy stuff from your family, no matter how tired I get, it will be manageable," Fang Pingying hadn’t intended to bring this up, but somehow, the words slipped out, sounding somewhat combative.
Luo Zhiyong looked at Fang Pingying in mild surprise, but he could not deny the truth in her words and nodded slightly, "Yes, it’s been tough for you, marrying into my family these past two years."
"Let’s not talk about the past," Fang Pingying glanced at him, "Regarding the family assets or children, is there anything you want to say?"
She had planned to discuss these matters with Luo Zhiyong that morning, but he hadn’t given her the chance.
When it came to these issues, Luo Zhiyong had the same stance as the day before, showing no desire to discuss further, "The assets are originally yours, there’s nothing to talk about. As for the children, you can take them. Every month, on the day I get paid, I will send some money promptly."
Pausing, Luo Zhiyong continued, "According to my current wage, I earn one hundred and twenty yuan a month. I’ll give you one hundred. It’s not much but it’s my responsibility."
"It doesn’t have to be that much, I don’t need you to support me, just give enough to take care of the two kids," Fang Pingying mentioned the money not because she cared about the tens of yuan, but because as a father, it was his responsibility. If she didn’t hold him accountable for that, how would she refer to their father to the kids in the future?
Despite that, Luo Zhiyong insisted firmly, "I’ll give a hundred. If it’s extra, just keep it. The kids will have their needs. Let it be for them."
"..." Fang Pingying actually had many questions, like how he would manage if he gave so much money here, and what about his own family, but seeing Luo Zhiyong’s firm stance, she didn’t feel like asking anymore. Whatever he did was his business and it no longer concerned her.
In reality, if there weren’t any financial entanglements or disputes over property, divorce could be a simple affair, sometimes even faster than getting married.
For marriage, you have to take a photo together. To create a joyous appearance, the photographer would ask the couple to sit together and smile for the camera. But for a divorce certificate, only individual photos were needed, with smiles or poses being irrelevant.
However, when it came down to Fang Pingying’s divorce, it turned out to be difficult.
She and Luo Zhiyong waited outside for about two hours. Upon checking again, the couples who were there to get married had all left, and the room was empty. Even the staff was nowhere to be found.
Luo Zhiyong went to ask, and it turned out, coincidentally, the person who came to process their divorce was an old comrade from Luo Zhiyong’s time in the army. After demobilizing, he was assigned to work in the village government.
For some reason, Fang Pingying found Luo Zhiyong’s old comrade strange.
Normally, if someone knew acquaintances were divorcing, even if they didn’t offer encouragement, they would at least ask why. But this man simply took out the necessary documents and started processing their procedures, chatting with Luo Zhiyong all the while, treating divorce as a common and ordinary affair.
