Chapter 82: The Last Analysis
Chapter 82: The Last Analysis
[You’ve died over a hundred thousand times.]
’Nobody needs to know that,’
[So your going to hide everything.]
’Some things are better off hidden behind this face of mine,’ Vergil smiled.
He stepped forward, moving closer to the gate. No one waited outside — but the sigils on the door rippled, reacting to the parchment in his hands — flaring a blue light that opened the gates with ease.
He stilled, watching as the gates fully opened themselves. The mana here pressed him like the bottom of an ocean.
Thick. Heavy.
And with a pressure that increased the deeper you moved down.
[You’re not going to survive this place by playing it small.]
His grip tightened on the letter. "Who said I’m playing it small?"
[Oh? We’re being cocky now?]
"Damn right we are."
Vergil wanted to stand out to a certain extent. But he wanted to hide his demon and angel side. He would try his best to hide it.
Of course, Vergil would later realise how bad he was at hiding things.
Vergil strode towards the stone archway, making his way to a massive opening where he assumed it was the reception. Ahead stood a trio. Two figures in a conversation and a third waiting with a clipboard and a stern frown.
The man on the left was striking, he was a lot taller than Vergil who was now five foot six — long jet black hair cascaded to his back, strands flowing like dark silk.
A curved sword rested at his hip and his blue robe bore patterns reminiscent of storm clouds preparing to strike. His posture was relaxed, as if uncaring to the world around him.
He was a person that Vergil would remember even if he only saw him once at the academy.
Beside him stood a slightly shorter man sith short brown hair tied with a leather strap. He was doing all the talking with practised ease.
Vergil ran his fingers through his messy hair, slicking it backwards, but he left a few loose locks to hang freely over his forehead.
’It’s been a long time since I used this. Analysis.’
A translucent blue panel flickered before him, scanning the details of the one that gave him the chilled feeling of death.

Vergil blinked the panel away. ’Very strong, the strongest I’ve scanned if I don’t include mother.’
His gaze shifted as he moved closer. He analysed people out of habit and for that it made his interactions feel somewhat biased.
Something he didn’t want.
’No more scanning others for now,’ he exhaled.
The instructor with the board, a gaunt man in green robes looked up at the three with tired irritation.
"Good riddance, you’re all late. The Assembly starts in minutes. Hand over your recommendation letter or the application form and follow me."
Vergil reached into his pants, pulling out the folded letter. "Sorry, one hell of a trip."
[One hell of a trip my ass. More like a trip to hell.]
The instructor snatched it, scanning the seal before nodding in approval.
Vergil turned to the two others in robes. "How’d you two end up late?"
The younger man chuckled. "Practising in the forest and before we knew it, we were late."
The taller one said nothing. He met Vergil’s gaze briefly, just long enough to measure him then looked away.
Vergil, unbothered, casually asked. "Since we’re going to see each other around, we should introduce ourselves."
The brown-haired one replied, "I’m Zhao Huan. This here is Yuxin."
He nudged the other with an elbow. "Introduce yourself properly, man. First impressions are a must."
Yuxin glanced over. "Li Yuxin," he said simply, then turned his gaze back toward the hall.
Zhao smiled apologetically. "Sorry, he’s quite shy."
"No worries, I’m Vergil."
"Enough chatter, all of you follow me. We’ve already lost time."
The group moved in synch through the academy’s winding corridor. Polished white stone inscribed with famous words from wise men and pictures of their graduates.
The moment the heavy double doors before them creaked open, a hush swept through the circular chamber before them. The Assembly Hall of the academy was nothing short of majestic. A colossal dome-like design built from enchanted stone and veined obsidian.
High above, there was also a viewing area for teachers whilst the vaulted ceiling arched like a ribcage of a dead beast.
The academy’s emblem, an eagle was painted across the centre of the dome, its wings streched as wide as the dome would allow. Below its shadow, more than a thousand studentd sat across the layered rows of stone benches that resembled a university layout from Earth.
Arranged in a wide amphitheater around a central dais.
The hall buzzed with whispers and the air was thick with tension and anticipation to the three who had disturbed it. Most students turned to look at them, a small wave passing through Vergil’s spine.
A voice rang out from the podium in front. "Well now, it seems some students have decided to make a grand entrance."
He paused. "No less than two minutes before the deadline."
A chuckle rippled through the crowd.
"What should we do with them?" the speaker, tapped his fingers. "Ah, I know, let’s have these brave individuals introduce themselves in front of everyone."
