Daniel Green hunched his shoulders, shuffled his feet to the side, and finally nodded nervously.Bella Green: "..." Maybe we should just kill him.
"You... do you really not remember this place?" Daniel asked with a hint of disappointment in his voice.
Bella paused at his words, then looked at the house that was on the verge of collapsing.
On this hillside, there was only this one house, but there was a village at the foot of the hill.
But this house...
Bella thought for a long time, and vague images began to emerge in her memory.
Her younger self, pulling along a small child, well-dressed young men and women, and elderly grandparents.
In her ears, there seemed to be the sound of her own clear laughter.
Seeing her lost in thought for a moment, Daniel gently approached her and spoke softly.
"After grandpa and grandma passed away, this house became empty. Later, mom and dad almost never came back either. I only returned a few times after I became an adult."
However, when he came back a couple of years ago, the house wasn’t this dilapidated yet.
"When you were little, besides home, you spent the most time here. So, since coming home didn’t bring back good memories, how about starting from here?"
Bella turned her head, looking at the young man whose eyes were filled with light and hope. She furrowed her brows and remained silent for a long time.
The two of them looked at each other and didn’t speak for a long while.
Finally, Bella averted her gaze, looked at the worn-down old house, and stepped inside.
No one had lived there for years, and the electricity supply had long since stopped.
Some of the old furniture was still there. As a child, she never understood why, despite having money, her grandparents insisted on staying here and refused to move.
The house was covered in dust, and there wasn’t even a place to sit.
Daniel followed her in and then said with a cheerful grin, "It’s nice here, right?"
Bella turned her head at his words, looked at him, and also began to smile.
Seeing the girl’s smile, Daniel was even happier. She really liked it here, didn’t she?
Just as he was thinking that, Bella’s smile widened, and she squeezed out a few words through her teeth.
"Great, really great, so why don’t you just stay here and live?"here,"
Daniel hadn’t expected today to be so rough. Originally, he just wanted to bring Bella over to reminisce about the past, but it almost felt like they were becoming part of the past.
Bella rubbed her temples; there was no other way now.
"Let’s go."
At least tonight, they needed to find somewhere to stay.
Yet, it’s as if bad luck was drinking lukewarm water and it got stuck in the teeth.
They’d barely walked a couple of steps when the overcast sky burst with a rumble, followed by huge raindrops pouring down.
The dirt trail down the hillside was hard to navigate already, and the sudden downpour made it even muddier and more treacherous.
With both their phones out of battery, and no flashlight, they had no idea where they would end up slipping into a mud ditch.
Defeated, they returned to the house, where Bella looked at Daniel, both resembling drenched rats, and said darkly.
"It’s pretty impressive Anna survived so many years of your troublemaking..."
Daniel: "..."
"So what do we do? It’s September, it’s raining, are we gonna freeze to death?"
Daniel looked at the pitch-black sky and said anxiously.
Bella glared at him: "Yeah, we’ll freeze to death, so before we do, wanna give up all your clothes and stuff?"
Daniel looked at her with puppy-dog eyes, whimpering about the concept of a supposedly caring elder sister.
