Chapter 820: The Death of the Alien Beast
Chapter 820: The Death of the Alien Beast
Xiao Yu did not intend to reveal these ultimate weapons too early. If the alliance’s commander discovered these terrifyingly powerful small warships, it was hard to predict what reaction he would have. But in Xiao Yu’s estimation, the greatest likelihood was that the entire alliance would immediately disband and all its members would flee at once.
If that happened, Xiao Yu would lose these handy test subjects. So he cleverly arranged other warships around the Tyrant Dragon Beast and used intense fighting to cover up any traces. Having a less than brilliant brain seemed to be a common problem among Alien Beasts, whether those of the Milky Way or those of the Andromeda Galaxy. The battered Tyrant Dragon Beast did not seem to notice anything unusual. Its reason had apparently been drowned by overwhelming fury.
Waves of radio signals representing its enraged roars were continuously emitted into this pocket of the universe. It did not seem to realize that the warship had also entered its body and instead kept charging at the last two ships still attacking it. After ramming and lashing out, those last two warships also vanished from sight.
Only then did its fury seem to subside slightly. It resumed its charge toward the Planet-Class battleship it had been attacking earlier. At that moment, the ten warships already within its body moved.
Attacks of the same level would always inflict more damage from inside than from outside. The ten ships faithfully put this principle into practice. Each positioned in a different part of its body, they drew on the vast reserves of energy stored in their internal folded space and simultaneously unleashed devastating spatial attacks.
Wrapped in layer upon layer of Alien Beast flesh, a powerful Level 7 civilization-grade space rift was triggered. Alien Beasts naturally possessed a kind of holographic defense, meaning their internal flesh had almost the same defensive strength as their hide. But no matter how tough such defenses were, compared with weapons based on Level 7 technology they seemed extremely fragile.
A massive wound formed inside the beast. It finally realized something was wrong within its own body and howled again in rage. Yet its fury had no effect. The ten warships were inside it, and it had only holographic defense, not holographic attack.
The ten Province-Class warships were wreaking havoc within. Energy conduits were being severed one after another, tissue similar to muscles that transmitted power was being destroyed piece by piece, and they even managed to slice off one of its legs from the inside.
One of its claws suddenly slammed into its own body, piercing deep into its flesh, as if a person had driven their own hand into their stomach. Clearly, it was trying to drag those hateful little things out of its body by force. But it failed. When the claw came back out, it held nothing but a handful of some kind of shredded flesh. Those little pests had already moved to other parts of its body before the claw arrived. The only thing this attack accomplished was to leave a huge hole in its own body and inflict even more serious injuries.
It threw back its head and howled in rage. The pain from within drove it to even greater madness. It had basically lost its wits. In its wild thrashing and indiscriminate attacks, a Province-Class warship on the alliance side was smashed to pieces.“Tyrant Dragon Beast, what are you doing? Watch it, do not cause friendly fire!”
An angry message was transmitted into its mind, but it no longer had enough clarity to process it. Another warship was destroyed by one of its careless blows, then a third, a fourth…
Among the ships being destroyed were some belonging to Xiao Yu and some belonging to the alliance. Tormented by excruciating pain, it had lost all reason and was merely struggling, like a drowning man flailing desperately.
It had gone completely insane.
As it writhed, something strange suddenly began to happen. Without any apparent cause, a huge chunk of flesh peeled off its body and drifted into the void. Moments later, a tentacle-like appendage inexplicably snapped off and detached from its body. After that, one of its legs fell away…
Parts of its body kept dropping off. At first, they came away slowly, but after a short while the pace picked up. As more and more of it fell away, fountains seemed to erupt from its body, with blood-like liquid spurting violently from its wounds and spraying into space.
Its frenzied struggle lasted for several hours before it slowly weakened. In the end, it lost all strength and hung motionless in the void. Only its faint whimpers and the occasional twitch, like a nervous reflex, showed that it had not completely died. But Xiao Yu clearly had no intention of sparing it. An hour later, even those faint whimpers and spasms disappeared.
Only then did the ten Province-Class warships leave its body and return to open space. From the outside, the Level 6 Alien Beast still looked roughly intact, but Xiao Yu knew that its insides had already been completely destroyed.
Ten Province-Class warships, built with Level 7 technology, had taken less than seven hours to kill an extremely powerful Level 6 Alien Beast. This result left Xiao Yu very satisfied.
“A single Level 5 Alien Beast can contend with the full military might of a Level 5 Technological Civilization. A Level 6 Alien Beast can match the entire military power of a Level 6 civilization. By that standard, Alien Beasts are troublesome creatures. They generally have the ability to challenge across levels, just like that Level 4 Alien Beast I encountered back when I was still a Level 5 civilization.”
Here, ‘challenging across levels’ did not mean that a Level 4 Alien Beast could fight an entire Level 5 civilization, but that it could challenge a fleet belonging to a Level 5 civilization.
“That Level 4 Alien Beast caused me great trouble. Even as a Level 5 civilization, I had no good way to deal with it. Judging from that, a Level 6 Alien Beast should be able to challenge a Level 7 civilization’s fleet. But clearly, that is not the case. I only deployed ten Province-Class warships and destroyed a peak Level 6 Alien Beast.”
“It seems the gap between Level 7 and Level 6 civilizations really is as vast as a chasm between heaven and earth.” Xiao Yu sighed inwardly. “Even using ‘one in the sky, one on the ground’ feels insufficient. No wonder the invigilators set up the Level 7 barrier to block Level 6 civilizations from advancing.”
“I was able to confront the Microscopic Civilization, a Level 7 advanced civilization, even before I reached Level 7 myself, for two reasons: first, I had already come into contact with part of Level 7 technology; second, the Microscopic Civilization is not a war-oriented Level 7 civilization. Moreover, I have reason to believe that as the Microscopic Civilization goes further along the microscopic path, their combat power is not rising but falling. Fulfilling a civilization’s curiosity necessarily means sacrificing combat strength. That is obvious.”
“However, the Microscopic Civilization is only a special case. When facing war-oriented Level 7 civilizations, such as those in the extreme stellar body direction, I must be extremely cautious. Based on my current understanding, the Neutron War Star is likely only an elite-grade battleship of an extreme stellar body civilization, equivalent to my Planet-Class and Continent-Class warships at present. It is unlikely to be a flagship-level battleship. If I were to encounter swarms of Neutron War Stars, numbering in the tens of thousands, all personally controlled by a Level 7 civilization, then I… I estimate I would not even be able to escape.”
He imagined the sky filled with white dwarf star battle groups, mingled with tens of thousands of Neutron War Star battle formations. Just picturing such a scene made Xiao Yu’s scalp tingle.
That was power enough to annihilate an entire galaxy.
“All right, the combat data for these ten Province-Class warships has more or less been collected. I cannot let them keep killing here, or I might scare the alliance fleet into fleeing. Now, it is time to begin the withdrawal. You want a major victory to boost morale and your leaders’ prestige. I can grant you that.” Xiao Yu thought calmly.
If he was going to put on a show, he had to make it convincing. Otherwise, the other side would easily see through him. Thus, in this star system defense battle, Xiao Yu carried out a bitter, seemingly desperate resistance. In this battle, he sacrificed a total of forty million warships, including one Star-Class battleship, while destroying nearly two billion alliance warships, as well as seventeen Star-Class battleships and six single-entity civilizations. Only after both sides had suffered heavy casualties did Xiao Yu ‘have no choice’ but to retreat, leaving this wreckage-filled star system to the Andromeda Galaxy Alliance.
Under the escort of Xiao Yu’s remaining warships, the Flame Civilization successfully broke through and escaped the alliance’s encirclement, fleeing to the Primary Star System One. The Flame Civilization was once again shrouded in gloom and deeply pessimistic about the future course of the war, while the Andromeda Galaxy Alliance held another grand celebration, rejoicing over this hard-won victory. The commander who had played the greatest role in directing the destruction of the enemy Star-Class battleship became a hero of the entire alliance. Because of this victory, the alliance’s morale soared, and almost everyone firmly believed that they would ultimately win.
The only thing Ao Tian regretted was that the enemy had managed to break out and he had not captured a single prisoner from the Flame Civilization.
And at this very moment, Xiao Yu had already begun developing even more advanced Level 7 warships…
