Chapter 569: Chapter 87: Making Fake Certificates

Should he be a normal trialist like Sai’er or Gray? Or become a nightmare embodiment like the old witch?

If the identity of a normal trialist offers the path for the average person, then the nightmare embodiment is essentially a hidden route tailored for Professionals and those who have acquired certain Dream Realm knowledge.

The old witch’s soup in front of him is the ‘special item’ that unlocks this hidden route. From this soup, Anvis obtained more fragmented information about the alternate path.

There is no superiority between these two pathways; the difference lies only in their focus and process.

A normal trialist, to ultimately gain the inheritance, must face various challenges, using every mean possible to pass through them.

With each challenge successfully overcome, the trialist’s strength is enhanced, which includes both the power infusion from the Dream Realm’s own rules for those who pass and certain special items gained during the trials.

Those who successfully pass through three challenges earn the title of Senior Trialist and gain partial authority over the entire Dream World.

Even if one was just an ordinary person before, succeeding to this stage allows them to rival Fourth Rank Professionals within the Dream Realm.

However, starting from the third challenge, the terrifying entities they face in the trials change from self-unconscious aggregates of Dream Realm operational rules to embodiments of others who chose the nightmare path—the Nightmare Spirits.

Like trialists, Nightmare Spirits are also categorized into different levels. However, their main method of upgrading is not by killing trialists, but by devouring other Nightmare Spirits.

Destroying a normal trialist in the Dream Realm allows a Nightmare Spirit to randomly receive about half of the strength and fragments of authority. But by devouring another Nightmare Spirit, they can inherit over ninety percent of the other’s power.

Theoretically, if one could infinitely devour their kin, the Nightmare Spirit path could become extremely powerful in a short time, even swiftly gaining complete control over the entire Dream Realm and successfully obtaining the inheritance.

Trialists, on the other hand, progress more slowly, but they have their advantages: in each challenge, they receive a certain number of protections from Dream Power, and the power of Nightmare Spirits is correspondingly suppressed, preventing a situation of certain death.

Anvis glanced at the soup in the cauldron, black as night, and pondered for a moment.

It seems that the Nightmare Spirit route might be more suitable for him.

But is that really the case?

Simple logic dictates that if the nightmare path were as good as the information suggests, then someone should have already obtained the inheritance given the Dream Realm’s long existence.

The fact that the trials of this world are still ongoing implies that, so far, no one choosing the nightmare path has succeeded.

Anvis does not believe that in the long history of the Dream Realm, there haven’t been any powerful individuals who reached this place. Surely, there must be some unknown flaws hidden within this path.

After a moment, he made a decision.

He plans to try both pathways.

This involves his special circumstance, as he did not arrive here through the usual route but was randomly transported in via the edge of the Dream Realm.

The number of dreams in the Deep Dream World is like grains of sand in a desert. His arrival here was akin to entering a specific grain of sand without any guidance, a probability so close to a miracle it couldn’t even be called a coincidence.

This means he does not have an official Identity in this Dream Realm until he comes up with one. Just as he can create one identity, he can also create another.

In simple terms, he has obtained one false Identity before, and now he’s ready to make another, then decide which one to present based on the circumstances.

Having determined his course of action, Anvis carefully scooped a spoonful of soup from the cauldron. The black liquid, following his will, gradually morphed in mid-air and finally formed into a rose as dark as the night.

At the same time, as Anvis made his move, the cauldron lost the essence of its power and dissipated into specks of bubbles.

Catching the rose suspended in mid-air, Anvis carefully pinned it in the pocket on the front of the dress.

Thus, with the Black Rose as the core, like a blot of ink spreading, the moon-white Magic Robe he was wearing was swiftly dyed black. Simultaneously, an aura of coldness and despair rapidly emanated from him,

“Is this my Nightmare Spirit form?”

With a casual gesture, Anvis conjured a Magic Mirror in front of him and scrutinized his reflection.

Although he made no movements, the reflection in the mirror revealed a sinister smile back at him.

“Shouldn’t I look in mirrors in dreams?”

Watching the eerie reflection in the mirror, Anvis similarly allowed a slight smile to spread across his face. After a moment of eye contact, the reflection’s smile gradually faded, returning to an expressionless state.

This was a confrontation with a Dream Abnormality, and Anvis easily triumphed, gaining control over the reflection in the mirror, which was equivalent to his Nightmare Spirit Talent Skill.

After getting a bit more accustomed to the abilities of the Nightmare Spirit, Anvis willed himself to revert back to his Trialist identity.

From the outside, the pitch-black robe on him returned to its moon-white color, and the black rose on his chest transformed into a silver gemstone brooch.

In these two states, Anvis could feel two different calls, which should correspond to the different trial scenarios of the two identities, though he had not responded to them before.

He decided to first attempt the Trialist’s test, as it should be safer with the protection for beginners.

Moreover, Anvis was curious as to what a trial meant specifically for him would be like?

As he actively responded to the call in his heart, a marvelous change occurred around him.

The Magic Mirror in front of him suddenly began to transform of its own accord; the glass started to warp and expand, and ornate gold edges appeared around it, eventually becoming a large square floor mirror that he had seen before in Moon Castle.

On the spotless mirror surface, his own reflection was clearly visible. Unlike the previous Magic Mirror, the reflection in this mirror was as normal as looking into a real-world mirror, with no anomalies occurring.

Following the intangible guidance of the Dream World, Anvis slowly reached out his hand towards the mirror surface, and the reflection did the same.

In the end, two hands wearing pure white gloves touched each other.

With a flash of light, Anvis’s figure vanished from the mirror.

After an unknown duration, when he could see his surroundings clearly again, Anvis found the scenery around him to be very familiar.

He was now at the foot of Moon Castle, within a field blooming with hyacinths, rosemary, and Wind Bell Grass.

The clear Nameless stream flowed out from the side of Sunset Forest, babbling through the vibrant field to join the distant sapphire-like Olivendi Lake.

But what struck him as odd was that there was another figure here that looked very familiar to him.

“Chirp-chirp— (Fiona?)”

However, Anvis quickly noticed something was off. The sound he made was a bit strange, and the surrounding flowers and grass seemed abnormally tall.

Looking down at his own body, he was still wearing the moon-white Magic Robe and white gloves, but it seemed not to be in a human form.

Extending from the gloves, he saw limbs covered with white fur.

Anvis took a few steps forward, arriving at the edge of the stream. Reflecting in the water was an odd rabbit, clad in a suit, but with pink eyes and long rabbit ears.
